    I loved this video, however, I was unable to buy a Dumont. So I went with the Catrike Trail instead and have loved riding it everywhere. Thanks for this video it was great to see.

      How do you like your Dumont?. I’m ordering one this week in Candy Purple and fat tires with Bafang motor. Expensive. I think it’s the way to go, I’ve watched every Utah Trikes video and I’m hooked.

      @@ggolds5 I love my Dumont and already have about 5,500 miles on it. I live just 3 miles from the wonderful rails to trails Withlacoochee trail here in central Florida. I do not have a motor or fat tiles on mine, but it sounds fun. Have a great time with it; you'll love it!

    I wonder if the front suspensions could be bought seperately and added to my Catrike Road?

    Can i get a 12 speed in the back?!? And what is the width of rims??? I like 30 mm wide rims...Is there enough room in the back for a 2.5" tire?!?

    • @RecumbentPDX
      @RecumbentPDX  10 месяцев назад

      probably yes to 2.25". I can't speak to 12 speed. The dumont comes stock with a 586% drivetrain range, so unclear the advantage to a 12 speed. The rims are stock from Catrike. they'll handle the 57mm wide Schwalbes. We never do anything wider

    i noticed that this catrike did not have a head rest on the seat,is that an option with the dumont trike.

      Paula, I recommend the headrest from www.finerrecliner.com. It's comfortable and you can personalize it with embroidery.

    • @RecumbentPDX
      @RecumbentPDX  4 года назад +2

      Mauri, we can mount a rack for pannier bags for groceries. Or, you can attach a trailer (dogs, kids, groceries, camping gear -we’ve even seen a customer tow a kayak!)

    • @RecumbentPDX

      Yes! Test ride them both. We tell people that recumbent trike is the single most important purchase you'll ever make solely by the seat-of-your-pants. They're both fantastic trikes. Only riding will convince you which is right for you.

    My wife and I really want some of these bikes but they’re so expensive and it’s hard to justify that type of money for a bike

    • @RecumbentPDX
      @RecumbentPDX  4 года назад +2

      George, recumbents are new to most people and they ARE expensive. That’s why we have over 20 demo trikes on our showroom floor -folks can come ride as far as they like, as often as they lie, until they know what they like. One reason they’re expensive is that every Catrike is hand built in the United States. We want our customers to be absolutely sure they’re making the right decision -they set the pace for their buying decisions and we’re never disappointed if someone simply says, “just not for me”.

    • @youtuuba
      @youtuuba 4 года назад +3

      George Huerta, recumbent trikes are expensive because they are still fairly new, because few manufacturers are producing them (and those are in countries such as the USA, England and Germany, and as such will cost more than machines would is made in Taiwan, etc), and because relatively small quantities are being produced....almost handmade, with no economy of scale.
      Still, they are not THAT expensive. Top models, new, can be had in the high $2000s snd low $3000s. People spend way more than that on stuff they don't need, such as new appliances when the old ones are still good, or a motorcycle, canoe, camper, etc; that they will enjoy less, and get less use from, than a recumbent trike. "Expensive" is highly subjective.

    • @RecumbentPDX
      @RecumbentPDX  Год назад

      @@youtuuba Actually...... There is only ONE brand that makes trikes: Catrike. ALL the other brands -from the cheapest Chinese to the fanciest European- outsource manufacturing. Friend of store, Jayoe, did a video a while back (ruclips.net/video/w8d3mxBPngE/видео.html) showing the fancy Euro brands being batch-produced in Taiwan. Batch-produced. Dumped in a shipping container. Ocean freighted to Europe for assembly. So, ONLY Catrike makes trikes.

    I would like to see this in an emergency stop as it looks that the rider has more weight towards the front.

      I put 954 miles on a 559 before getting the Dumont. One day on the 559 a guy pulled out in front of me from behind a hedge and stopped. Doing approx 10 mph I locked the brakes (either that or go splat). I crabbed about 10 degrees, the back end hopped and I did a gentle roll to the right onto the concrete. I was fine, there were a couple of scratches on the trike but I didn't go splat.
      A couple of weeks later I test rode a Dumont (shop owner didn't know about my experience). He said, "Hey, try this. Ride and lock the brakes." Say what (flashback)? I tried it and the suspension absorbed the kinetic energy. I tried it faster and then faster til finally the back end hopped, the trike crabbed, but I stopped more gracefully. The Dumont went home with me the next day. If I had been riding the Dumont that day my stop would have been much more graceful for sure. Might I roll the Dumont? Rhetorical question... In an extreme circumstance? Probably, but I do appreciate the suspension.
      I still feel the bumps but I think it takes the "sting" out of most of them. I find it also corners much better and at a higher speed. The Dumont, and the 559, are very stable in the downhill. The Dumont is a keeper. His name is DP, short for Deep Purple which gives you an indication of my age 8-)
