i've been listening to tøp since 2014 and have been such a fan ever since. josh definitely inspired me so much to drum. lmao i remember thinking he was so cool with his insane ( almost scary with all the head shaking lol) drumming style, multicolored hair, weird masks and all. i had a makeshift drum set out of boxes i used for years, i would plug in my headphones and loop all of their albums and attempt play along litterally for like 5 hours at a time. years later, im drumline captian in marching band, drum in my own band thats made it on spotify, and won best snare award in my regioN. cant begin to say how thankful i am to this band, and ill admit, i still find myself casually loop all their albums and playing along
I started drumming nearly 3 years ago. I always liked the drums and my dad taught me some bits of drumming because he is a drummer too. My dad, my grandad and my uncle used to play music together. But then I started to have lessons at school and now I am in a band with a singer and keyboard/piano player, guitarist and another guitarist. We idolise tøp.
Love it ! I am a big Fan of Josh. Like you said he might be not one of the sickest drummer but his beats fit perfectly. Could you make a video about some fills aswell? This would be awesome. Greets from germany

People, if you want, watch the Udo Masshoff snare tuning trick for a different way to tune your snare. However, it is for 10 lug snares but I am sure 8 lug snares could use a similar approach. Just another way to tune your snare. Respect. S
Hi Stephen - as always love your lessons. question about the 6 beat (with 32nd notes) - don't you think it would be easier to learn and count it as 8th notes with double the BPM. then all ghost notes are actually 16th notes ? and of course this become a 2 bar beat .
Shlomi Cohen if that helps you, sure. But it’s written in halftime. So the proper way to notate it is 32nd notes. If it’s easier to think in 16ths for you, that’s totally fine

G'day Stephen, I really enjoyed this lesson as it gives me a couple more beats to add to my repitoire. Please don't take this as I think I'm better at drumming/tuning than you because no way in the next 10 years will i be as good as you. What I am getting at is that I noticed a Moon Gel of sorts on your snare and thought to myself, has he tried the Udo Masshoff snare tunning trick. If you have it does not bother me one bit as I respect everyone's differences and if you prefer a moon gel, well hey, your snare sounds awesome anyways. Just thought I would Mention it for other people who might read this comment. Much respect. S
sammbobdylan for sure. No offense in the least. He has a great tuning method, but, when in the studio, there are often overtones at certain frequencies that are much easier to handle by placing a small gel or piece of tape on the snare. But I agree, we should always try to get the best source sound possible.
Wow, that’s a lot of information for one video. Excellent beats, but they go by so quickly. I would benefit from each complete beat being repeated slowly before going to their full tempi. Stopping to rewind over and over slows learning down for me. Great stuff as always! Best wishes - Tim
