No one from Sucker Punch said that the protag is a Samurai. People in this commend section assume things. Just because Jin was a Samurai does not mean every protag in the Ghost series needs to be one they building on the concept of the Ghost.
And even if the main protagonist turns out to be a female samurai... these people should learn that distinguished female samurais do exist throughout Japanese history. Considering that feudal Japan is highly patriarchal, the fact that these women were respected enough to be immortalized in history book must've meant that they're indeed that good as warriors.
@@kevinclement1533 for me at least, it's not about historical accuracy or realism. It's about not wanting to play a female protagonist, particularly if that protagonist engages in the same style of brutal melee combat that GoT had. There were female samurai/warriors no doubt but if you think they just adopted the same exact combat style as their male counterparts you're delusional. Which means SP will either redesign the combat to fit the new protagonist (which will upset people who liked the old combat style) OR they will just take the male combat style and gender swap the models which will then hurt the authenticity of the game and prove this was more of a DEI decision, not a creative one. Either way, it's a stupid risk that will cause some unknowable amount of fans to skip GoY (I'm currently one of those people) and if that number is substantial then the whole franchise takes a big blow and any chances of a third game get severely diminished. Changing the protagonist for a sequel is already a bold and risky decision but gender swapping at the same time just has not worked well in any format almost always damages the brand and loses way more fans than they gain. I have to think the decision makers are smart enough and knew this would happen and chose to do it anyway which means there is some level of DEI agenda behind the scenes and the more that get's discovered means there will be more and more calls for a boycott.

@comradekenobi6908 Lady Otsuya (おつやの方 Otsuya no Kata) was a Japanese female samurai (onna-musha) from the Sengoku period. She was the ruler of Iwamura Castle until the last days of her life. This was inspired by kill bill fosho. The yellow color pallet speaks so loud. Also, the setting was in Hokkaido. It's giving a vibe of princess mononoke The devs are movie nerds. I bet theres a lot of movie references in this movie
Psst...it's not that it has a female protagonist, it's that they are replacing Jin with a female. The pattern of replacing male protagonists with female protagonists in games and movies has become a hallmark of the woke agenda in the entertainment industry. People are totally justified in being concerned.
The main theme is Ghost, meaning they can set it anywhere with anyone. That's the concept. I'm glad we're getting a new protag male or not. This could be a direct competitor to Assassins Creed.
Controversy has nothing to do with the female protagonist, but rather with the person that does the voice acting and whose face is used in the game as a character model.
I think its fine. Jin's story concluded perfectly and doesn't need to be continued. This game taking place 300 years later gives a different perspective on history at that time and allows them to tell a new story with new characters while still developing the ghost mantle. Also people crying woke solely because the character is female is genuinely just sad and pathetic lmao. "It has a woman as the protagonist so its bad" some people need to grow tf up. "Women werent samurai" is another thing ive seen, who says she's a samurai? Also ever heard of Tomoe Gozen? What about the Onna Musha? Hojo Masako? Nakano Takeko? Hangaku Gozen? Mochizuki Chiyome? Theres more examplws but you get the point. Losers cry over anything. Who gives a shit if shes a woman? The only thing that matters is that she's well written.

Ever heard of Tomoe Gozen? She was a female samurai irl. How about Hangaku Gozen? Mochizuki Chiyome? the Onna Busha? Also who said she was a samurai? You know there were other warrior groups other than the samurai right? Not everyone with a sword was a samurai. You know that RIGHT. Japanese history has had plenty of warrior women. Seems to me like you think the game is woke because the main character is a female who isn't intentionally eye candy, id argue you're a sexist bigot and probably a loser irl.
Nobody is mad the protagonist is a woman. I've played many games where that shit didn't matter. ppl are irritated that activists that don't play games are ruining our hobby just to push an agenda, most of the OG team is gone... & If you know the whole Rocksteady situation the same shit happened. Sucker punch now has activist writers.
Why do people now clamor about games with female mc’s being “woke” there was never a compliant about games like Metroid, perfect dark Bayonetta, tomb raider, mirrors edge?
because the MC's actor is literally a woke activist who hates gamers. games like Metroid, perfect dark Bayonetta, tomb raider, mirrors edge didn't hire actors, VAs, and devs who HATE THE CONSUMERS. DUH. idk maybe that's a reasonable enough explanation? i mean at this point you have to be arrogant to not notice a pattern with these games
I just wanted to continue in this universe with Jin. Cole at least had two games before he was replaced, but Jin had one and then done 😮💨. Not to mention his experiences with the other characters like Yuna, Ishikawa, Tomoe etc. Kinda kills my motivation for this game
Other than this being a female protagonist which we have had plenty of over the history of gaming, there is nothing about this game that we know of that everyone should be screaming it is 'Woke'. Look at Sucker Punch's history, when has there ever been a time that they are considered Woke. Look at the Japanese reactions to this trailer, they are loving the aesthetics & once again praising the showcasing of Japanese culture & the land. Sure when the game comes out & we get news that SBI or DEI was apart of the game than by all means trash the game & Sucker Punch all you want. Until than have confidence that Sucker Punch will do the right thing and simply make this a great game.
It takes inspiration from a famous samurai movie where the protagonist is a female. This is fiction. So kill bill is a trash movie? Again this takes inspiration from one of the famous old samurai movies just like the first one did. The character also kinda looks like the character in the movie. Sucker is paying major homage to Japanese cinema with these games.

the MC's actor is a woke activist, it has nothing to do with female protag. though it still is trying to history wash by pretending that female samurais ever existed (they don't) or that women who are smaller and weaker than men would ever have a chance irl against any man. just make a fantasy game with a female MC where she can have whatever powers idc. its been done many times before and ppl love it. what ppl DON'T love is when the dev team and actors HATE THE CONSUMERS.
@Dandoskyballer well we don't know much more about this game maybe we'll learn the legacy of The Ghost Jin Sakai throughout the game. I don't think this should be a deal breaker by anymeans
4/10 rage bait. Frankly, I see the potential, however, this game was a fairly weak target for rage baiting. Unfortunately the premise for this video is simply a little bit too stupid. In order to create good bait, it has to be reasonable enough to get a large niche to support your bait, while simultaneously getting a large majority against your bait. If your bait causes everyone to call out on its stupidity while getting almost nobody to agree, then it generates very little hate, as it generates no conflict amongst those consuming it. You honestly have potential for good rage bait, but it will take some work
If I want to believe a game set in Japan is woke, I need to have some Japanese Gamers react to the trailer for themselves. Edit: That said, if SBI is indeed involved with this game, I won't be buying it.
Sucker Punch is not in SBI's client list, but Sony's other developer Santa Monica is. Changing the game's main male character to a female one is not a good look though.

@thetardwrangler9001 there is literally nothing in the trailer to suggest that this is gonna be a "le woke game" except the fact she's a woman. In fact, there were notable female samurai during the sengoku period, and this game isn't even claiming to be historically accurate like assassins creed shadows is. @jakestaheli8532 Wasted my time reading that drivel. The first games story and ending implies a continuation of Jin Sakais story, probably taking place in main land Japan. That is my contention. My original comment was to say that to say that DEI has nothing to do with WHAT you see in games but WHY it is being pushed in games. It is messaging, brainwashing, Sci-Ops etc... Sony recently has had an awful track record of pushing this stuff. So your comment is not a gotya, it's presumptuous at best and contrived at worst. Do better.
Brother she has a kill list, looks like a normal person just like Jin did, IS DUAL WIELDING SWORDS AND HAS A WOLF COMPANION. But yeah I guess she looks uninteresting and mid
@Jarnetjee Cool cool. Can you guess what the original plan was before some Jack offs decided to make a female, wolf taming samurai? (Also she has TWO SWORDS?! Big whoop.)
@Jarnetjee Originally, Jin Sakai would have continued fighting the Mongols with a brotherhood of samurai at his command. "Basicslly like Asassin's Creed Brotherhood, but better in every way" Who wouldn't want that instead of some random female protagonist who's played by a cringe woke activist?
Because it’s tone deaf. GoT is my 2nd favourite game ever. It was a wild success. Why would you take this risk as a developer? This will be problematic for them. I’m disappointed. Take assassins creed issue… Setting: Eqypt: Eqyptian dude. Cool. Setting: Ancient Greece: generic white dude. Cool. Setting: Norse: Viking dude. Cool. Setting: Feudal Japan: Black dude. Wait what? Why the fuck would it not be a Japanese dude! It’s not even about whether that extreme rare legend in history is true, it’s tone deaf and forced and ideological. It breaks immersion for many of us. Are we really pretending that a game fixed in feudal Japan playing as a Samurai, and a girl makes the most sense there? Really? And especially when you’ve already established such a beloved franchise and now take this unnecessary risk? And it has nothing to do with whether females can be strong leads - of course they can. I MUCH preferred Kassandra or Alexio. Look at Stellarblade and many other titles. But this one doesn’t feel right.
The game is probably going to be awesome all on its own, just like the first one. The fact that it might trigger some crybabies is just kind of an added bonus.

I love how people moan about other people moaning about the female main character personally I wouldn’t care i prefer to play as a male character being a guy but I have enjoyed games like Horizon but what I get annoyed with games that start you with an extremely GOOD main character and then change that character on the 2nd game with someone who doesn’t tick more boxes than the first one with a sequel I want it to build ontop of the first game not start from scratch and be like oh yeah it was a good game but it’s just I wish they had added the new stuff to the old game …..
Some of us were waiting for a Jin sequel. Others wanted to at least play as a Samurai. It's not surprising why people aren't thrilled to play as Atsu, the cliche silent strong woman.
Kill bill came around during a time where sexy badass female protagonists were good. They didn’t trash men in every scene, they were allowed to be sexy, and everyone loved it. Now usually when there’s a female lead in games it feels forced. It seems like a way to push an agenda. A lot of these characters will be brave and strong while degrading the men around her who are written to be bumbling, moronic, cowards. And sometimes they actually make the female lead unattractive to avoid “objectification.” So all of this might not be the case here, but considering the actress’s track record, and the politics being injected into a lot of our games now, don’t be surprised when the whole story is just preachy garbage trying to push “women empowerment.” We aren’t saying fuck this game entirely, just that you should always be suspicious.
@The_Biggest_Birb well, to be honest. I don't feel threatened by the new wave of movies or by women feeling empowered. BUT most of them are just terrible movies.
@@k-ftang8704 it’s not about feeling threatened. It’s about being tired of people trying to virtue signal through all of our media. It’s absolutely exhausting and we never asked for it.

@@FreshPrincex4 The only difference is that the sexes are swapped around and Samus' story has been "wrapped up" so many times I've lost count. People want to gaslight and pretend that those complaining inherently have something against female protagonists when you know it's actually about changing the protagonist of a beloved, now franchise from male to female especially in a time when there's a clear agenda to be swapping out supposedly straight men for more "diverse" counterparts. I'm not accusing Sucker Punch of pushing an agenda, there could have been a variety of reasons why they decided to go in this direction, but to act like any dissent for this kind of thing is some act of mysogyny is disingenuous at best. People don't like a character change with video game characters they've been on a journey they enjoyed at the best of times regardless of whether or not the sex changed.
Once again. If you want woke, go to assassins creed but this. Is far from it, they are embracing a new story with a new lead who is most likely a descendent of Jin. Women were warriors in this time but they also didn’t say she was a samurai, people are just putting that together because Asian=samurai all of a sudden. She clearly is a ronin which is a wondering warrior. Nobody was mad about Yuna but we are mad about this. As the previous game stated, anyone can be the ghost because it is an identity not a person. Ghost of Yotei looks great and suckerpunch has never let us down. Jin was wrapped up perfectly and it’s time to continue toward.
Well, I care because I'm sick of the girl boss archetype. They're almost never done right, and "modern gaming" is far too oversatirated with them. Not to mention, we have another traditional heroic male lead in an established game being removed to add in someone who does not fit. Ghost of Tsushima is as if not more historically authentic than anything Assasins Creed, and althoughbfemale samurai did exist, you cna find as much evidence of them fighting in battles as you can of Yosuke. Not to mention that by the 17th century, women had lost essentially all their previous rights as samurai, so it just doesn't make sense. Overall, I'd also like to play as someone who appeals to me who fits into the world. I'm done with the girl boss.
I loved the first game! But i'll be honest about my feelings with the Ghost of Yotei. It will be a magnificent game undoubtedly but having a female as the main character takes something away from it for me. When I think warrior.. I think power, brutal battles, skill honed by years of fighting in wars. I don't think of a female going up against some big well built guy and her getting the upper hand. I think some games can really develop female characters to be enjoyable to play as (mirrors edge) for example. I will buy this game at release not going to lie but I am disappointed in the female lead. Not down to being sexist or a woman hater but to be forced to play as the weaker sex in a game that involves fighting against battle hardened men just blows my mind If you put a top ranked female fighter in a ring with a low rank male fighter what do you think the outcome would be? The female would be destroyed.. and very quickly at that. Cast your mind to fighting Kublai at the end of the first game. How would a female "warrior" of handled that? She wouldn't have is the correct answer If people don't complain about having a male lead but they complain about having a female lead in certain games then it tells you that "people" not just men enjoy playing as a male more than a female in these types of games - WOKE
I hate DEI slop like the rest of the community but at the same time. It's 3 minutes of a trailer. We don't have much to go off of. Yes the VA has the smell of DEI plant and in recent times it seems believable but I think the treatment of not buying into hype should go both ways of not always believing it's DEI before we even know the plot, voicelines, or social environment that SP built. I want it to be good but I also don't plan on buying a PS5 to play it atm. Also, I think Jin never saw himself as a Samurai towards the end of the game he sees himself as the Ghost.
So Japanese society was woke in the 70's. They had tons of female Samurai and warriors in their movies back then. There are tons of female warrior and Samurai characters in Japanese anime. These people know nothing about Japanese culture, theyre just grifters.
All the people going “BUT FEMALE WARRIORS DID NOT EXIST GRRRRRAAAAAAH” clearly had no media literacy or just did not play the first one where regardless of if female warriors existed (they did) there were a ton in Tsushima so just please just shut up and go be a crybaby snowflake on your own time.
The original wasn't that good anyway. It gets repetitive fast + not a lot of memorable fights outside of the special Ronin characters. Customization was bare minimum, and the combat was lackluster. It was carried by the storylines. Get rid of Jin I dont want it anymore. Sekiro has always been superior.
Since 2022, these grifters have been acting like the vocal majority that buy these games when all honesty there just loud and dont play games or the games being discussed.
Lmao, so please explain how Dustborn, Concord, Star Wars Outlaws all failed? Hahaha the reality is that most normal gamers agree that we want video games that cater to men that have masculine heroes and feminine characters. Games that reject modern tropes like ugly androgynous women, emasculated men, girl bosses, or a litany of other woke trends that we see in video games today (which by the way, most female gamers want this also). So why the hell would you replace a male protagonist which a female one in a semi-realistic feudal Japan setting? Oh yea, so immersive to cut down legions of armored, battle hardened warriors with my sword and martial arts as a woman LOL. Meanwhile voice acted by a person who pushes gender confusion / body mutilation ideology. Hard pass. Doubtful this game will do as well as the 1st one did. But sure, people with normal opinions “don’t even buy games”. Sure is a mystery why Concord & Star Wars Outlaws failed!
Ghost of Tsushima is fiction but it did Japan and its history justice. So much so that the devs became ambassadors of tsunami as a reward. That just went in the trash. And it’s not so much the character that’s a problem so much as the actress. Just another woke activist who’s trying to inject their political agenda where it doesn’t belong. She already made changes to the script. I’m gonna sit this one out.
Lmao this is based on the Edo period and if you do any research you'll see that there were female ronin like her around this time but you clowns don't do research you trust your gut instead 😂
Well some people will just go on the bigger bandwagon if there's any change to their narrow view of how people should be. Now those familiar with Japanese history and stories true and false ones from the trailer alone can see what's going on here . The main character and the logo slashes through Kirkland's name meaning she has dissolved herself from it. There have been female warriors like Samurai but in this case she's a ronin not a samurai. Is there any year of two unification campaigns how are that unification Cafe results in a lot of conquering and death. Near that mountain the attempts to preserve the older native culture of Japan hi respect of nature hence the nature feel of it and her companion which is a wolf and the wolves on her blade.

Some of us were waiting for a Jin sequel. Others wanted to at least play as a Samurai. It's not surprising why people aren't thrilled to play as Atsu, the cliche silent strong woman.
FFS. non topic. is Kill Bill woke?

The "Striking Vipers" reference is taking me out 🤣
I loved the first game!
Not down to being sexist or a woman hater but to be forced to play as the weaker sex in a game that involves fighting against battle hardened men just blows my mind
If you put a top ranked female fighter in a ring with a low rank male fighter what do you think the outcome would be? The female would be destroyed.. and very quickly at that.
Cast your mind to fighting Kublai at the end of the first game. How would a female "warrior" of handled that? She wouldn't have is the correct answer
If people don't complain about having a male lead but they complain about having a female lead in certain games then it tells you that "people" not just men enjoy playing as a male more than a female in these types of games

you are 100% women were samurai and assassins in feudal japan..

Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion
Lady Snowblood (1973)
Samurai Wolf II (1967)
Some pretty good movies. The genre of female samurai going out on vengeance either because her clan was slaughtered or her husband murdered was a decently popular story in the 60s-80s. We can guess it's going to be similar to that.
