Back then they did so without ulterior motives. They wanted to tell a cool story. These days it's different. Someone at Sony told them to make a genderswap for the series for sure, because that's the modern thing to do.
@Xaito why would it be any different for sucker punch. They've always wanted to tell a good story. They never had an agenda, no reason they would have it now.
@@mrmouse9476 Companies are rarely defined by a single person. People leave, people join. Management or investors have changing demands. Many big names that put out some of the best games went woke and are in different stages of going broke. Why wouldn't SP?
How many of those other companies you speak of were made ambassadors of a part of a country? This is the key difference I keep trying to point out. Sucker Punch has far more to lose here than say a Naughty Dog. Having been honored the way they have in Japan is a big deal. That's guaranteed sales of your game in their country. Is it possible that SP could jeopardize that? Sure. I'm just not willing to bet on it just yet. Need more info.
@@Xaito because there is no evidence of this. Tell me if the major people being GOT have left, or have changed "agendas". They have a hell of a track record. And there is nothing in the trailer to suggest the game would be compromised by people's beliefs. As much as there are companies that have gone bad, many have stayed the same and improved. Fromsoft, Santa Monica, first party nintendo developers, the studio behind ASTRO bot, the studio behind black myth wukong, bg3 devs, and many more have continued to improve and deliver on their games. Having a women as a main protag doesn't equal woke, there are many awesome female video game leads like Samus and Laura croft. They are good because they are from good developers that prioritize good gamplay and story first before there beliefs. And sicker punch's record proves the same so far.
yea it's not called "Ghost Of Tsushima 2" because it's not a sequel to the first game it's a completely different game/story, but i do hope we do get to see Jin in someway or form.
Probably not conaidering this is set in an entierly different time period, in an emtierly different part of japan. I for one am super excited to see a story about Ainu, though. That's so rare.
There were no female samurai and no female ronin. And the women who were were probably killed/bested by men 10 times out of 10. People were upset about Yusuke, but this is pretty much the same thing. You guys just don't get it. Its not because she's a female, its because they gender swap the already established main character. Almost all of our beloved female leads were ORIGINAL, they didn't take someones place. And with the current gaming landscape, swapping leads is a Red flag!!

@@galaxybrainjimmy1520 Well, considering the story they want to tell, reusing Jin wouldn't even have made much sense. There is absolutely no good reason for him to be there, and I for one, am glad they did not shoehorn him in to appease people like you. As for her inheriting the title... Why not? "The Ghost" is a concept anyone can take on. It's not inherently tied to only Jin. I bet you would not have complained if she'd been male.
Im cool with Jin not returning. His story is completed. He birthed the idea of a rogue warrior who bends the sacred code of honor for justice, and paid the ultimate price for it. Now his legacy continues with a female character and im all up for it
But imagine, a grand battle against the Shogun. Kickstarts the change in the samurai way. The birth of shinobis. All taking place on the mainland. Come on, you wouldn't want to play that Jin game? But yea, I'm definitely down for multiple unique Ghost origin story games. This is looking like it's becoming a massive franchise like AC.
@@LeoLeeGaminghonestly I hope not. Assassin's creed games became too repetitive. I think game companies that make a lot of games based on the same concept should make the games very far apart like Rockstar, or make the games vastly different while retaining the same mechanics like from soft. Doing otherwise makes the game feel less unique and more repetitive. Look at far cry for example. Every game more or less plays the same since far cry 3, adding more ways to play like helicopters and other stuff doesn't make it feel less repetitive, and if anything can make it feel like the game is having an identity crisis. Resident evil did the same thing until resident evil 6 flopped hard. Then they made 7 and 8 which are both masterpieces, both still have the same mechanics however the experiences are vastly different not because of the story, but because of how the player is forced to engage with the game from running speed to the types of weapons available to ammo scarcity etc. It would be too hard trying to make the next game just as scary or somehow even scarier than 7, so they made it like resident evil 4, however they still included house beneviento in 8 which was arguably more horrifying than 7 as a whole. That's just how I feel about it at least. I feel like making more ghost games that just have more weapons, or making one where they eventually redo the combat mechanics wouldn't make sense. If they want to try something different, just do what fromsoft did with blood borne and elden ring.
Well I certainly don't want SP to mirror AC. Just as big, but over time. Not a new Ghost game every other year. At the same time, I wouldn't mind them doing something completely new. Or revisiting Infamous.

@@thomasmason730 yea, they never explicitly referred to Masako as a samurai. I have a lot of faith in Sucker Punch. They have done no wrong all these years and multiple games. Plus they have a deep respect for Japanese culture and work with Japanese historians.
Yup- she oviously isnt samurai- not even considered ronin- she is here for revenge we hear. im sure we will find out why she has picked up the sword- probably from her murdered father, who taught her to fight for fe And nobody can say some crap like the samurai wouldnt let her carry a sword- she isnt even in japan she is on the outskirts in an obviously far less civilized area than the mainland with their big armies and shogun.
The sword probably also plays a role in why she is wanted. There are historical accounts of female warriors that took up the sword though. Maybe not this same time period, but Sucker Punch doesn't strictly follow the time period anyway.
@@LeoLeeGaming Exactly. Tsushima isn't trying to be a historical game, it's design was to be an homage to Kurosawa cinema. I suspect Sucker Punch will refer to Lady Snowblood at some point when talking about development of Yotei.

And ESPECIALLY forgot that Yuna is the biggest catalyst, if not the sole reason, that Jin was even able to become the Ghost in the first damn place. You've earned this sub.
I understand historical inaccuracies, but is that even Suckerpunches goal, to make a historically accurate game? The director when talking about GoT even said that they weren't trying to make a historically accurate game, but a game that celebrates Japanese things. We dont know anything about this games story, but are we immediately going to say this game is woke?
@@LeoLeeGaming Because it will be, because it's current day and that happens everywhere these days. The time they launched development on this one was around the all time high of woke things getting made. We now see the first results dropping on our door steps and they're failing.
@@LeoLeeGaming Companies are not like you good old buddy. They can change radically with due to different reasons like key persons leaving the company, investors or management demands etc. Several large companies have gone down that route, why couldn't or wouldn't Sucker Punch? People just ignored it because the rest of the game wasn't tainted. It'd be a happy surprise if this is not the case, but they certainly raised the usual red flags, especially coupled with the choice of the VA for the protag.

Well she wears a mask and aren’t Shogun’s samurai’s or are they a mix of samurai and ninja? My concern is will she have the same or better of the sneak shadow kill abilities as the previous game.
Subscribed! Disagree with Jin having more story to tell tho. The game was about what he did to become the ghost and how he became the legend. Is he supposed to be the ghost of a new place now? He just goes around, game after game, being a ghost in the same period, but at different locations, fighting new enemies somehow, every sequel? He's the Ghost of Tsushima. That's his title, that's his legend. I'm so happy SP chose not to shoe-horn him into some corny mainland hijinx just to squeeze a sequel out of him. I'd rather it be more like Avatar, where the ghost is inherited across eras to help in times of turmoil. I liberated and explored every inch of tsushima multiple times and I truly feel like Jin's story was complete.
@@ToothpasteJuice I have this idea that when Jin defeats the Shogun, him and Yuna initiate the change in the way of the samurai. Starting to incorporate Shinobi. In reality, samurai employed Shinobi. Why are they all female then? The latest game in every series I can think of besides Space marine 2 is female. Zelda, GTA6, Last of Us, Uncharted 5, Resident Evil, Ghost of Yotei, Witcher 4.... it's just weird. If anyone is smart enough to possess pattern recognition, they will notice it. Maybe you dont care, but someone cares a lot. And this game started out being about Jin, and was forced to change for some reason. Im not touching it.
I need to see more, can't tell if it's Woke or not from what they have shown. The good thing about this is that maybe, just maybe, Sucker Punch can show Ubisoft how to use a female lead without making it woke. As for the story goes, usually I like stand-alone stories, but part of me wants her to be a descendant of Jin and Yuna, that was we know they ended together and a new tradition of being protectors of the people was born.
I think the graphics are much more detailed. I watched it in 4k on my OLED though. It's definitely not as vibrant as the first game. Seems they toned that down... for better or worse...
Honestly, a bit nervous, but still can see how female mc could be tied in to the lore, but still, nervous on how they would handle the protagonist and the tone of the game.
Best opinion video about a video game i have seen in a long time. Very objective. Thanks Edit: i disagree with you only on the language topic. Even if the game is American, the setting is in Japan. Watching that setting and listening to English freaks me out lol.
There is a difference between when they make a female main character and a female side character when they do side characters as female it is really good or really bad but main female character they make them overpowered with no character development whatsoever
Even though it wasn't very common for women to be somewhere that was a few in human history secondly maybe she's the daughter of a samurai that train her that a young age
I think it would be cool if this is a descendant of Jin Sakai and that The game there'll be like in somewhat not or flashbacks where you play as Jin Sakai and showing what happened or they could could save the idea for like a ghost of tsushima 2 for another game.
I know I have ghosts of tsushima 2 in the comment at like it's a separate game and to be honest this frankly is Ghost of yotei, to be honest I'd be excited and happy if they said this would just be like a spin-off and then ghost of tsushima 2 will be another thing entirely

A neutral zone is definitely the place to be when it comes to jusging video games. It's wild to think that people could consider having a female lead in a game as woke now. Laura Croft and Samus Aron are some of the most iconc video game characters of all time, and embody the quintessential 'badass female protagonist'. Don't see people bitching about them. Just enjoy games for what they are; an art form used to tell stories. With how Sucker Punch did Tsushima, I trust them enough to give them a chance with Yotei. Let 'em cook.
The first was diverse and had accurate representation for the time period, people can call that woke but I call that accurate representation, hopefully yotei will as well I am excited
I'm not disappointed at all that it's a woman, besides playing a woman never bothered me as long as she's well written and interesting no worries, but it's rather on the side of the actress who must look at who for the time being is really a woke activist, but I hope she doesn't have too much impact on the game, which I've been waiting for 5 years now.
Yea, I made this video before people discovered who the VA and face model was. There were definitely still many comments about going female. Now that the VA is known, it seems to have shifted to a focus on the actor. I will still place my focus and faith in Sucker Punch. I highly doubt they would do anything to jeopardize their relationship with Japan. They helped repair a Torii gate in Tsushima and were highly honored by Japan for it.
Just let it cook. If the story justifies it then let’s see. Better than making up a story of a “black samurai” which turned out to be just someone’s pipe dream and making it come off as historical facts.😂
Yasuke's real, and has been featured in Japanese media a dozen times over. I'm pretty convinced that the outrage over AC Shadows is just about a black man climbing up in the world with people that gave him a chance (Like the Oda Clan), unlike how the Western World lied to millions of Africans about "uplifting" them from the Stone Age, only to torment and kill them by the millions.
I am not convinced it is woke because there is a female lead we don’t know nothing yet she didn’t have any dialogue in the trailer we don’t know what her personality is. And the controversy with the actress it shouldn’t be a problem as long as she keeps her activism believes out of the way. She should be fine in the game. I'll say it because the circlejerk of white knights in here isn't: There's a demand for old school entertainment - that includes a male and masculine hero as the protagonist. A game with a historical setting will always be more authentic and believable if it portrays the source material in an authentic way. History is history - no matter how you feel about it with your modern political preferences, there aren't noteworthy Japanese female warriors, because back in the day men went to war, women stayed at home. The few ones who had fighting training were usually defensive skills, like Naginata fighting for protection of the estate, not battlefield fighting skills. You might not care about the female protag, but there will be a sizeable amount of people who will.
Ghost of Tsushima is a fictional historical game. It also had several female warriors. And if we are going to talk history, Japan didn't keep good records of female warriors. The only notable group of them being the Onna Bugeisha. Others were found through archaeological evidence. This is expected given the general status of women during those periods. Hell, even modern day Japan is still behind in women's right. This isn't White Knighting, I'm simply stating facts. It's a fact that Sucker Punch works closely with Japanese historians. Well, at least they did for the first game. We shall see for the second one. So I will continue to have faith in Sucker Punch. By the way, old school entertainment has been full of female protags. Lara Croft, Kitana, Chun Li, Bayonetta, Samus... the list goes on. I know because I've been a gamer since the 80's.
@@LeoLeeGaming Sure, there were female protags in the past and many of them were great. But they weren't made by current day political activists who make the usual tropes: - girboss, often Mary Sue - Masculine, ugly or otherwise unattractive Also games of the past weren't often going for a realistic depiction of anything - either due to setting or stylistic choice. It's easier to suspend disbelief if it's not set in a familiar setting.
@@Xaito Your points are irrelevant in entertainment. That stuff may fly in historical documentaries and academic discussions, but not here. Ghost of Yotei and Ghost of Tsushima are works of *FICTION,* meaning those rules don't apply here. Besides, what's so special about old school entertainment? We had that for decades (Like Arnold Schwarzenegger's films, the Rambo series and all of those pre-2010 military action movies), people got tired of it and decided to do something different.
@@AeonPhoenix Humans are great at pattern recognition. If you break the rules that people expect the world to behave by - without a credible explanation - it's going to make a less believable product. Simple as. What was special about old school entertainment is that it was focused on giving people what they wanted. It was at some point replaced by all those superhero movies. I'm not into super hero movies, but I didn't complain because there was a clear demand being served. These days they're putting out stuff nobody is asking for because of some religion like adherence to woke, intersectional ideology.
@@Xaito Doesn't that go for every piece of media? Other genres either give something to a certain audience or possibly everyone. Ok, I somewhat agreed with calling ac shadows woke, but really calling Ghost of Yotei woke? It's just a female lead, are we not allowed to have a female lead without it being woke? "Oh there weren't female Samurai" I don't recall them claiming she was one firstly, secondly SP never claims to go for historical accuracy they try to make a good representation of the place and culture their games are set in, well thirdly are ya'll forgetting about Lady Masako? Ya'll need to stop crying "woke" whenever a lead isn't how you want it.
Yes but it’s the theme of every game lately change from a male to female and make the female gay or non-binary oh and what happened the voice actor came out saying they are non-binary like why the fuck do we care and why the hell do you have to say it. Since i was a kid in the 90s, i dont play female protags. Back then, it's because many females were promiscuously designed, and i legit felt uncomfortable with that. Not for any social reasons, just the way it was for me. I was insulted by others as being 'gay' because i didn't play games for sexual gratification. I dont get the "id prefer to stare at a womans butt rather than a mans butt" argument either. Bro, im not staring at anyone's butts lol. Later on, i started to realize i was more-less roleplaying in my mind as the character im controlling. I found this very difficult to do as a female character. Again, my preference. I didn't hate female protag games. They just weren't for me. Now, here in 2014-2024, i am insulted for the exact opposite reason, lol. And by the game developers themselves. I'm a bigot for not choosing a female character apparently. It started for me with Rome Total War 2 when the devs literally said if you didn't like them adding females to the armies in a later patch, the game isn't for you. So i said sure, if you say so, and un-installed it. NOW, im being told that if i dont like AND buy these games, i am a sexist. Clown world... If the developers come out and say, "Hey, we get the feedback. Some people like the old protag, some people like playing dudes, and this won't be for everyone. But we have a story to tell with a female character and we think it will be good.". Awsome, do it. I am not going buy it but more power to them. If instead they come out and insist i am evil or a "toxic gamer" because of my own preference, then i hope they crash and burn. Unfortunately, that's been 90% of female lead games in the last decade. So i understand peoples defensive nature. With this IP, i lean towards us not knowing enough about it yet, but fully expecting a hit piece on modern gamers/consumers from the company themselves soon. I hope I'm wrong. Sorry for the wall of text. But it's a complex issue. Just wanted to be clear on my stance.
I love civil discourse! I am an old man too, 80's kid. I'm also the dude you described, I always picked female protags since I rather stare at their butts for hours and hours. But equally, I didn't mind Jin's hotspring butt in the first game rofl. Jokes aside, yea it's a deeper underlying issue, that's for sure. I'm just keeping faith in Sucker Punch due to how much respect they showed Japanese culture and history in the first game. I have faith they aren't going to do anything to jeopardize the relationship they have with their Japanese peers. It's sad really, that people can't seem to have a civil discourse over subject matter such as this one. We have to resort to calling one another names.
@@LeoLeeGaming Sadly, it's encouraged on both sides. Game developers are just as guilty as the hyper-opinionated consumer in this area. Low sales ever being blamed on the ones purchasing (or not purchasing) your product has become FAR too common a practice in modern media-development of multiple forms, movies, games, and otherwise. Not justifying anything by any means, but it's not hard for me to see why these particular situations have become so volatile. And every time people seem to lower their guard, they get smacked; on both sides even. Sad environment for really any form of entertainment. Everyone wants to make a difference in what THEY individually believe is a virtue. Some believe fighting the "woke" motives a virtue, some find fighting FOR "woke" motives a virtue, some people argue what "woke" even is, and everyone is fighting over the same IP's to call their own. Not sure how any of it is fun, personally. And I thought that's what games were about, Lol
I don´t think the problem is the fem protagonist i think the problem is that they are doing that fem protagonist all the time . English is not my native i will probable make mistakes but i think the last 5 lest say years they are always doing the fem protagonist and we are like ok we like fem protagonist but can we also have a dude . No problem again with the fem protagonist some of my favorite games have fem protagonist´s and in the games that we make our own 8 out of 10 time i will make a fem but this with the fem protagonist it´s almost all the time now . I mean come on Jin was a really good character why not go on with his story As for Yotei lest see the story and the game first and then we will say that it´s woke if it is .
I really think they intentionally held back on Jin because of the movie. They probably don't want everyone to be tired of seeing Jin. After the movie though, there will be even more desire to see a Jin sequel game.
This game does not exist in a Vacuum! All most, all of the Games lately have been Female leads. And it is Fact that 90%+ of the Potential Customers are Male! There is a reason that Barbie dolls are Female and not Male. There is a Reason why the Book " fifty shades of Gray" has a Female lead, there is a reason why the Book "Hunger Games" is a Female Lead. Because Women are the Target audience. And if Blxckrxck would pay all the Publishers to only accept Books about Male Protagonists, than the Target Audience Women, would be Angry too. Probably cry Soxism od Pxtriacj. It is also not as if there wasnt Blxckrxck spending big Money for these componys to check the Boxes! My problem is that it would be easy to make us Choose beetween Male or F., change up the Dialoge a little. But no they made it exclusive Female on purpose (probably DEI Money). Ok so im going to reflect that dicision with my Purchasing Choice and im going to Critisise them too. And for the Peopel that justify it with the First Game not having a Chr. Choise either. I will say yes, but the Target Audience is Male. That also why Eat, prey, love or Mama Mia are also Female leads because theyre tageting Female audiences! Also Minus Points because we dont get to see Portugues!
Nothing wrong with female protagonists. But, this is a Sony title so based on that and the decisions we've seen them make I dont think its a stretch to say that the decision to have a female protagonist was more than simply a creative decision. But, I also havent really seen anyone calling it "woke". I think most people are just gonna be disappointed we dont get to play as someone who the fans of the first game loved.
I place my faith in Sucker Punch and their deep respect for Japanese culture and history. They worked closely with Japanese historians in the first game and visited Tsushima multiple times. Even got honored on that island after the game. And as soon as the trailer was released, I saw so many people on FB and X calling it "woke". Now that the actor is known, it made those accusations worse. As for Jin, I still believe we will get a sequel to his story. There is a movie coming out too so maybe around that time.
Great business move to divide the community on this game instead of pleasing EVERYONE. i wonder if their next big brain plan will be to tell everyone "if you don't like it, don't play it" like concord did😂 way to ignore the radical activist thats already part of the drama as well

@@FernandoMartinez-pv1id we don’t care about the content in game when it is done well. Women within the actual games have always been prevalent, beloved, necessary and LGBT topics are cool in games at times too. Almost anything CAN be done well in a game. And guess what? No players knew the politics or sexual preferences or beliefs of the people who made GoT. The way it should be. The primary issues are with the real life studios. The people who craft the games we spend hard earned money on and love, to escape the heaviness of life, often hate their core audience. They create safe spaces incapable of criticism that would improve games. “Toxic positivity” and the refusal to acknowledge important variables like DEI that are hurting their sales. They attack people with other beliefs and force them to self censor. They inject ideology into entertainment. They hire consultants like sweet baby inc (and countless similar consultants we’ve never heard of) that are the antithesis of their customer. It’s not about a few examples in game. It’s about their distaste for their customer and the politicization of everything in gaming anymore. Men are not allowed to be masculine. Men are not allowed to want sexy characters.

Graphics are the same as the old one. I hope this game isn't just more weapons and new map

I'm really hoping for a direct sequel too. Maybe after the movie. For this one, it would be so badass to have Jin show up as a mythical tale.
Yes, I won’t play a game just because there is a female mc in it. It’s my money and my time and if a game or movie does not cater to my fantasy or escapism(yes, that’s what media is for) , I won’t buy it. I’m sure that this game has excellent gameplay, I hope it does well, but I won’t play it. It doesn’t do it for me. I'll say it because the circlejerk of white knights in here isn't:
There's a demand for old school entertainment - that includes a male and masculine hero as the protagonist.
But they weren't made by current day political activists who make the usual tropes:
- girboss, often Mary Sue
- Masculine, ugly or otherwise unattractive
Also games of the past weren't often going for a realistic depiction of anything - either due to setting or stylistic choice.

There is a Reason why the Book " fifty shades of Gray" has a Female lead, there is a reason why the Book "Hunger Games" is a Female Lead. Because Women are the Target audience.

@@americasteam2112 they did not race swap Genghis Khan .sure there were female warriors that used weapons of the period but they were not Samurai .
They will surely cite the Ainu racism issue and claim that the Japanese were racist.
Or they will claim that the Ainu people are black.
As a Japanese, I am fed up with having to fight not only UBI but also Sucker Punch!
What the hell is this?
Let me play the game like a normal person.

Why don't you love me? 😭
@@LeoLeeGaming we didnt have problems with the female chars in the first game cz they were making the story of the male lead more relavant and interesting. most consumers r men, we wanna see men fight through difficulties, we wanna see brotherhood, we wanna see love for the protagonist from beautiful women. thats how we relate. sacrifice brotherhood love...

Wokexism is getting strong, Welp.
Ghost of Tsushima is my favourite game of all time - I'll NOT be getting this. I'm generally sick of female leads, and if Sucker Punch have gone woke, they can go without my money and support. They shouldn't employ a super-woke activist to be in their games.
So. Fking true tho
@@savage8210it literally isnt
Your right they can go without your money. A few dudes who are angry at the mere fact that they're playing as a woman won't change the possible hundreds of thousands that will give them their money
@@notmyemail506 True, but some people have standards!
@@lemming9984 your exactly right! Just like the people who are going to buy this game instead of ac shadows those people have standards
Game is woke and gay
Nice and all but I will not buy it. Female samurai😅
Fool. Crippling yourself because oh no woman has weapon

Sooo you were cool with the female warriors in the first game but not this one????
@@LeoLeeGaming These people don't even do the research before complaining. If it is indeed a story about revenge, who cares if she wields swords she's an outlaw? They forgot the there was a joan of arch for japan.
