If UBI hadn't claimed that their fake fantasy was historical fact, Japanese people would have accepted Shadows. Sucker Punch loves psychics and samurai, and they make games based on that love. That love is reflected in the visuals, and it touches the hearts of Japanese people. That's what's great about SP, and what UBI doesn't have.
Wow. I didn't even consider that her wearing yellow could be a reference to Kill Bill. Considering it could be assumed she's out for revenge. If they actually meant to make it a reference, that's pretty cool. They're great movies.
@@zsu-23-4shilka2 That's what armorers are for. Just as Jin's first armor he earns is from Masako, I believe it was for her son, if I remember, and it's refitted for him.
I read that during that time (1600s) in Hokkaido it is what is equivalent to what we call the Wild West in the US, there being no actual laws and just a lot of factions/groups jostling for power. So it makes sense the very Wild West feeling and tone the game is giving out. Also wouldn't be surprised if Sucker Punch did take inspiration form Kill Bill and the Female Prisoner Scorpion.
It’s also the beginning of the end of the Onna-Musha as we enter the Edo period. From this point on, women taking up warrior roles becomes less and less likely. Fits nicely with themes from Red Dead Redemption, the end of an era around the turning of a century. Her house has been destroyed, she is the only one left who can seek revenge.
It's sad that Japanese Wolves were hunted down to extinction primarily due to the introduction of cattle and it's nice for Sucker Punch to get them right. I admit I was the one, who among others, who pointed out the use of the katana, instead of the tachi, in Ghost of Tsushima, along with the use of Sengoku period armor plus stuff that weren't present during the Mongol Invasions was anachronistic. Sucker Punch explains their reasons properly and was not hostile in anyway, unlike Ubishit. I do praise Sucker Punch for the Japanese dub of Ghost of Tsushima, they managed to use terms used during that period.
@@dalcomaroni9837 Armor is not outdated per se as this is set 3 years after Sekigahara but by 1603, Tokugawa Ieyasu is appointed Shogun in the same year. @@akanomamushi15 I love it when Sucker Punch is indeed a nerd to Japanese culture and history. While Ubisoftbrain is a literal bully and a NEET in Japanese slang for a loser with no life.
@@cjytp I believe so. They probably won't name him directly as Sucker Punch is against directly naming historical figures. But that is where we'll probably learn from a figure like him.
Now i understand why they gave us a new character, Jin Sakai is basically Altäir, and somehow he must have inspired others to embrace The Ghost even after his death. We're literally witnessing the birth of the Assassin's Creed of this generation. This is freaking awesome and genius because by doing different stories with new characters, they also add more replay value to their games (such as Ghost of Tsushima). Ubisoft is so screwed💀
I would honestly equate Jin closer to Ezio rather then Altair specifically since it was Ezio that reineveneted the Brotherhood into what it would become, and would become one of the most venerated members of the Assasins for centuries to come... to the point he became a literal boogeyman for the Templars he was that good. Granted a lot of those changes comes down from Altair peeking into the future via the Apple and then writing it down so Ezio could see it 400+ years later... so maybe the Altair equation isn't that off key, honestly. But honestly, no one batted an eye when we moved from Altair to Ezio, or even Ezio to Connor, or Connor to Kenway. Why is this game getting so much hate when we don't even know much about it yet? Is it because of the VA? I mean, I guess dislike her, but VA's aren't exactly in the role to make large swaths of changes since by the time they are brought into the studio to record lines, the game is already more or less done as voice lines and diolgue are some of the last things done when in development, so outside of MAYBE a few lines or something being altered, there's not much she, as a VA, can really change or do since it's already written.
Don't hold your hopes up. I just heard bad news. Critics report says the voice actress is some kind of woke activist. Past work, she voices Sektor from Mortal Kombat 1 and one character from Veilguard.
@@christopherjohnferrer3771 she has no say on the game development. She may say I improvised lines etc etc, but all actors do that to prop up their contributions. Usually it's miniscule and doesn't change from the main narrative. Sucker Punch have a great track record. That's the most important thing. And all we can do is wait and hope they continue the path they've been walking. Tsushima is one of my all time favorite games. Nothing will change that.
Japanese female samurai, known as "Onna-bugeisha," were women who trained in martial arts and participated in warfare during the feudal period of Japan. These women were often from the samurai class and were skilled in various forms of combat, including the use of weapons such as the naginata (a polearm) and the katana. One of the most famous onna-bugeisha is Tomoe Gozen, who lived in the late 12th century and served under Minamoto no Yoshinaka during the Genpei War. She is celebrated for her bravery and fighting skills, and her legend has been immortalized in various literary works and historical accounts. Though not as common as male samurai, onna-bugeisha played crucial roles in battles and the defense of their homes and families, especially in times of conflict when their male counterparts were away. They embodied the values of bushido (the way of the warrior) and contributed to the samurai culture in significant ways. The contributions of female samurai are often overlooked in traditional narratives of Japanese history, but modern scholarship has increasingly recognized their importance and valor. Today, their legacy continues to inspire discussions about gender roles and women's empowerment in historical contexts. But I am guessing she'll be a ninja in the end? Hmm..
So let's analyze this for a bit: 1. We got about 300 years advanced in from the main story. So there's no Jin 🌍 2. It's a female lead and she can use sword. Which means that she's probably came from a samurai family or somethin' 👩 3. We can dual wield. By that, maybe we will got some more amazing stances in the game ⚔ 4. We can use musket. I wanna have the bow and arrow too, though 🔫 5. We can use kusari. A medium ranged melee weapon with pulling capability maybe ⛓ 6. We can have an Ezo wolf companion (let's hope so). Or maybe the wolf will change the fox for the charm 🐺 7. It's Hokkaido! So, maybe we would encounter some Hinna Hinna people 🤼 8. She carries a shamisen, not a bamboo flute like Jin's. So the BGM for this game probably gonna be more uplifting than melancholic like Ghost of Tsushima 🎸 9. And let's hope she's actually Jin's descendant. So we could hear a lot of stories from her about him. I personally want to know about his end. And I don't wanna hear him die in a prison or killed by the samurais. Let the lad die in peace on his bed, beside his family or somethin' ☠
Hmmm, she's from a different family though. I think Ghost may be a title passed from successor to successor, rather than inherited by bloodline. Either way, means we potentially get more info on Jin's life after the events of GoT
I hope she is also related to him. Ghost of Tsushima has a very strong central theme about Family and Legacy. Jin with his Uncle, his dead father and Yuriko who took care of him after both his mom an dad died. Yuna and Taka. Khotun Khan also talks about his relationship to Kublai as well as Genghis and how he (and the Ghost) deserve to step out of their shadows. Ishikawa's desire for a daughter in Tomoe. Lady Masako with the tragic slaughter of her family and the betrayal of her sister. The warrior monk Norio and his brother Enjo. Family and Legacy is after Honor the next biggest thematic arc in the whole game.
I’ll miss what happens to Jin and Yuna. The game looks very good and I can’t wait for it to be released. I also hope that there is a back story about Jin though. You never know though. They just might leave it to your imagination on what happens to Jin and Yuna!?😁
The "Spaghetti Samurai" vibe or "cheeseburger" how they named it is so fucking epic. Ubisoft, take notes on how to not fuck everything up for the next time
I trust Sucker Punch they know what they're doing and I know people miss Jin Sakai myself especially but let's give it a chance. and who knows, maybe Jin could be a DLC character or slip him in for a cameo.
Oh for sure, his sword or armour would be sick, or even a trippy mission where we do actually see him as a ghost, as I’m hoping for more Shinto elements this time around.
I do think a DLC about Jin is HIGHLY likely. His story was left ambiguous at the end of the first game. They could easily wrap his story up during the Second Mongol Invasion of Tsushima. Maybe he finally mastered the Way of The Ghost, and died to protect Tsushima. His teachings may have been passed down, where Atsu eventually taking the mantle of the Ghost.
Let me tell you, i am so excited for this game. I absolutely loved the fact that the production studio sucker punch created a love letter to the culture of japan with the first one and i am so looking forward to seeing them do it again with this one. Ghost of Tsushima is top tier, cant wait for this. Thanks for all the insight into Japanese culture aswell, it is very interesting. Like the significance of the wolf to this specific location, i wouldnt have known if you didnt explain it.
Hey shohei-san, I’m on vacation in Hokkaido right now and was just in Toyoko 3 days ago where you can see a perfect view of Mount Yotei. It was absolutely beautiful like you just mentioned, almost feels like I just got an unexpected preview of the game. I also visited the Upopoy museum on Ainu culture in Shiraoi yesterday and there was one section that showed the history of the time period depicted in the trailer. From the Matsumae family being given Hokkaidō as a fief to them gaining exclusive trading right with the Ainu people in 1604, the Ainu clans went from having a superior position in the region to being ruled over by the proxy of the Shogunate. This obviously led to tensions between the two people that later built up into armed conflicts such as the Shakushain and Menashi-Kunashi rebellions. The Wild West vibe the trailer seems like a very apt take on the time period with many factions vying for control of the region at the time. Which leads to my main point, I noticed that there are some Japanese people who are very skeptical of the game because they believe it might be a anti-colonization story with Ainu fighting back against the encroaching Wajin influence in the region. I was very surprised at how many people seem to believe the Ainu people should not be considered aboriginal people of Japan and that they’re just being used by political interests trying to debase Japan and Upopoy museum is just a part of that propaganda. It seems they believe the game is too political in nature due to their perceived notion that it’s a part of the “Ainu problem”. If it’s possible I’d love to hear your thoughts on such takes and perhaps delve deeper into the background of why some Japanese people would hold such opinion. However, seeing as it is quite political in nature I would perfectly understand if you decide not to broach this topic.

@@shubhamshrivastava5812 i mean, i am sure he is a really respectable samurai but i dont think he is an assassin. Ubisoft should just make a fictional ninja and stick with their made up story rather than pushing narrative using a real historical figure. There is not even many literature about him while im sure there are tons stories about ninja that they can choose from. I think it will be more relatable with Japan and AC itself as ninja were often mercenaries, spies, and assassin, and they also willing to serve anyone as long as there is money. So, it looks to me that Ubisoft dont even know the base of their game themselves 😭
I seriously thought the sequel would be ghost of Tsushima 2 with Jin again but a little older. I’m not disappointed though. Another story to tell in another part of Japan, it’s so exciting.
I was hoping to play more of Jin. Sad to see we can’t 😢 but I am happy to play as….the ghost of Yotei. Hope to see a cameo of Jin. And this is the real Assassin creed
If I did indeed see Jin's ghost consoling her and giving her a sad but invigorating motivation. It will make my grown ahh cry😭. Not just him, Yuna, Taka, and the rest of the defenders and survivors of Tsushima guiding her.
@fayke_Wyss I think so too, I think SP is capitalizing on Ubisofts failure, because GoT 2 has a lot more time. I think this game will be telling the industry how to make female characters look good without pandering. I hope it's good.
Its set about 400 years, give or take, after the first game so the Ghost of Tsushima is quite literally a ghost now. We might get some legend about him and maybe meet a shinobi clan he founded or something. That would be sick.
I've been working right near the real Mt Yotei in Hokkaido for more than a decade and the opportunity to explore the region in a reimagined 1600s digital setting is pretty irresistable! Will be interested to see how they portray the communities on the island which I understand were mostly small groups of fishers, merchants, hunters, and indigenous Ainu tribes during those days. I get the impression Hokkaido had a similar vibe to collonial era USA during this time... except with super brutal winters.
dunno if you will see this but with her nails looking nice, could she be a performer when not hunting? i don't know what it would be called. but with her having the instrument it calls to me she could use it to scare and entertain. also the sash she has, could that be names of the people she is going after? would make sense if she is using blood to mark the person was killed.
Yea, it’s a list of her bounties. She was crossing off “snake/serpent” with the blood on her blade. There’s also Demon, Fox, Dragon, Spider, and Saito (I would guess this is the head or heir of the Saito Clan?). Being a traveling performer would make a lot of sense if she’s a shinobi. The Ghost is more shinobi than samurai. In Tsushima, Jin had to throw off the honor of being samurai and embrace the Ghost. She could either be a descendant of Jin, or if she’s a storyteller she knows about the “Legend of the Ghost/Jin Sakai” and decided to take on the mantle. I really hope she performs a song about him somewhere in the game.
Love seeing how happy you are reacting to all this. You know an artist has done a good job when a person is excited about their own culture being represented. So excited for this game also and to experience some of that Eastern badassery.

Wondering if shes the last descendant of Jin Sakai? Would make sense why shes on a path of revenge. Lots of wolf themes which I can get behind. I can't wait for this one.
Judging how well Ghost of Tsushima was made by Sucker Punch, they have earned trust from me. I am more curious about the dual wield and wondering if they will link her to Miyamoto Musashi. From the exquisite sword play and story in the first game, I am very curious how this plays out. They never claimed historical accuracy, so I'm soooo excited to explore Hokkaido. Apparently, Matsumae castle (guessing that's the one in the video) was built in 1606. Maybe the protagonist will fight to keep Hokkaido outside samurai influence or maybe she's a hunter for the Tokugawa shogunate, mopping up remaining dangerous people 😃

The score being similar to a Western film is additionally impressive as the old Spaghetti Westerns were heavily influenced by Kurosawa and in some cases just Kurosawas stories transplanted to a different setting. It's a brilliant thing for them to do. Also, I think it is interesting she is using two swords at the same time...which, as I understand, was a style that was perfected and practiced by Miyamoto Musashi around this time period. One very short clip in the trailer also shows her with a kusarigama...which is awesome. Now that Tokugawa has won, perhaps she is in Hokkaido hunting someone from a losing clan who is trying to escape their fate...or seeking revenge against someone who did something horrible to her or her family during the previous war and fled.
I bet ubisoft is quaking in their boots. Its a shame that we don't get a sequel to jin's story. I hope we get some missions explaining what happens to him. Either way it should be a good game.

Sucker Punch loves psychics and samurai, and they make games based on that love. That love is reflected in the visuals, and it touches the hearts of Japanese people.
That's what's great about SP, and what UBI doesn't have.
One has a soul, the other does not. I am making the assumption that everyone will know which is which.
Wow. I didn't even consider that her wearing yellow could be a reference to Kill Bill. Considering it could be assumed she's out for revenge. If they actually meant to make it a reference, that's pretty cool. They're great movies.
I hope they make like a mythic tale where its about Jin, and you can get his armour or the Sakai sword kit, that would be pretty cool
They’d have to resize the armor for Atsu ‘cause she’d probably be a bit too small for it at first
i dont think she'll be able to fit it
@@zsu-23-4shilka2 That's what armorers are for. Just as Jin's first armor he earns is from Masako, I believe it was for her son, if I remember, and it's refitted for him.
Different part of Japan.
@@zsu-23-4shilka2 yeah true
I read that during that time (1600s) in Hokkaido it is what is equivalent to what we call the Wild West in the US, there being no actual laws and just a lot of factions/groups jostling for power. So it makes sense the very Wild West feeling and tone the game is giving out.
Also wouldn't be surprised if Sucker Punch did take inspiration form Kill Bill and the Female Prisoner Scorpion.
Kill Bill itself is practically a retelling of Lady Snowblood. This also feels very Hideo Gosha to me
Plus spaghetti westerns and old samurai films heavily influenced each other.
@@thatchstringfellow1432 for sure. Kill! by Kihachi Okamato is an excellent example, or the Samurai Wolf films by Hideo Gosha
I was thinking Kill Bill....yes! I like it
It's sad that Japanese Wolves were hunted down to extinction primarily due to the introduction of cattle and it's nice for Sucker Punch to get them right. I do praise Sucker Punch for the Japanese dub of Ghost of Tsushima, they managed to use terms used during that period.
but now the katana and the armour will be both correct (though outdated)
@@dalcomaroni9837 Armor is not outdated per se as this is set 3 years after Sekigahara but by 1603, Tokugawa Ieyasu is appointed Shogun in the same year. In fact, armors became decorative pieces by the Edo period due to the absence of battles. The katana is pretty much the same so yes, the setting in Ghost of Yotei is on point.

I believe so.
I would LOVE a Ghost universe, honestly. They could do so much with it, and in the future maybe even do a follow up to Jin’s story.
Sucker punch looked at assassin's creed and said "hold my sake 😂 best coment ever
"Hold my sake"😂
Don't hold your hopes up. I just heard bad news. Critics report says the voice actress is some kind of woke activist. Past work, she voices Sektor from Mortal Kombat 1 and one character from Veilguard.
@@christopherjohnferrer3771she was ana bray from destiny 2
if this would be made by ubisoft we would expect a trans black fat female character🤣
Hmm..
So let's analyze this for a bit:
1. We got about 300 years advanced in from the main story. So there's no Jin 🌍
2. It's a female lead and she can use sword. Which means that she's probably came from a samurai family or somethin' 👩
3. We can dual wield. By that, maybe we will got some more amazing stances in the game ⚔
4. We can use musket. I wanna have the bow and arrow too, though 🔫
5. We can use kusari. A medium ranged melee weapon with pulling capability maybe ⛓
6. We can have an Ezo wolf companion (let's hope so). Or maybe the wolf will change the fox for the charm 🐺
7. It's Hokkaido! So, maybe we would encounter some Hinna Hinna people 🤼
8. She carries a shamisen, not a bamboo flute like Jin's. So the BGM for this game probably gonna be more uplifting than melancholic like Ghost of Tsushima 🎸
Family and Legacy is after Honor the next biggest thematic arc in the whole game.
it might be a wild wild west style with bounty hunter and rounin (leaderless/clanless samurai). 😊
She use dual sword . So i hope we can met miyamoto musashi .
I’ll miss what happens to Jin and Yuna. The game looks very good and I can’t wait for it to be released. I also hope that there is a back story about Jin though. You never know though. They just might leave it to your imagination on what happens to Jin and Yuna!?😁

I trust Sucker Punch they know what they're doing and I know people miss Jin Sakai myself especially but let's give it a chance. and who knows, maybe Jin could be a DLC character or slip him in for a cameo.
Game is set in the 17th century, Jin would have to be a literal ghost for a cameo…
@@AK-lx1cr I'm sure they'll probably slip in something for a reference.
He's dead but (the armour of a ghost) side mission maybe
The shamisen with guitar backing is such a great combo. I've heard this kind of music before but this arrangement sounds really good.

Ubisoft-san, you better take note...

I don’t think I can take a black Samurai seriously

I heared ghost of tsushima 2 is still in development as well as the movie and this is going to be a inbetween title rather then a sequel

Judging how well Ghost of Tsushima was made by Sucker Punch, they have earned trust from me. I am more curious about the dual wield and wondering if they will link her to Miyamoto Musashi. I agree this game will be like LADY SNOWBLOOD!! Her family was slaughter by a group of people and she is out for revenge! Even the guy says she is hunted down by lots of Ronin ..JUST LIKE LADY SNOWBLOOD!
Let's hope they put flower of carnage ost.
I love the difference in reaction between ghost of yotei vs ac shadows
They both look like woke trash, but one is in sheep's clothing.
Bro! Right after I watched the trailer I came straight to your channel; glad you put this out today. Thanks for the insight. See you and Atsu in Yōtei 👊🏼
Either way it should be a good game.
the idea of samurai with western spice of narrative in a place that at the time of history the frontier of japan, with the escaping ronin trying to disappear with the rise of Tokugawa shogunate . it so fitting together its scary how good that baseline story is.
Oh my god ghost 2 is official!!
Sucker Punch was extremely effective in making me cry during this video game trailer lol
Great work of art incoming. We're entering the Renaissance era of gaming.
I really wanted to know what happened to Jin but I am excited for this as well. Loved this video by the way. Very informative and loved your reaction.
I'm a huge Golden Kamuy manga fan so i'm hyped to fight bears, have a wolf as a friend, meet the ainu people (?) & explore the wilderness & fauna of Hokkaido 🙏
🙏🏻😊Yes, me too
I've been watching some of your playthrough videos for Ghost of Tsushima, so when I saw this was announced I was excited to see what your reaction would be. Only a couple of minutes but I'm already blown away by what they've given us in the Ghost of Yotei trailer. I hope you get the chance to play the game on release as time allows, your perspective and little nuggets of cultural knowledge you share as you go through the game have always been a joy.
Seeing your excitement is hyping me up even more! Thanks for sharing! ⚔
I love Ghost of Tsushima so much. It's been a favorite since it was released. Can't wait for Yōtei!!
People probably need to realize that Ghost of Yotei is not AC:Shadows.
As soon as the female protagonist shows up people call it "woke"
I get it... and I hate AC:Shadows too, but I'm gonna let Sucker Punch cook.
Yeah I don't know why people are so quick to lump them together. This can be an example of how to do it right, like Sucker Punch has for a long time before dei and "consultants" existed. I mean I'm not buying a PS5 so if it does turn out to be egregiously woke I'll skip it entirely. But for now I'm looking forward to it.
The model/actor for this character "atsu" is an American person "Erika isshi" identifies as LGBTQ.
If that's not woke then what is ?
Exactly and did people forget about characters like Yuna and lady Masako or even Tomoe also did we forget female protags from other games like samus bayonetta and lara Croft
@@iamgodofallyea but do you think that they devs are going to put LGBT in the game because the actress said so?
@@iamgodofall I dunno, mate. There are a lot of people who voices and acts different from the character they portray.
i.e. Kevin Conroy, Batman
I shall hold judgement until Gameplay and story.
Until then, I hope that SP doesn't disappoint.
