I would describe David Gate's voice as the "male karen carpenter" ... pure, rich, intimate, warm, beautiful, deep and meaningful..
You nailed it! Exactly right! Perfect!👍✌️
Great fescription,spot on!
Could you imagine if him and Karen did a duet!! 💥💥💥
@@joshdahl4114 That would have been the ultimate!
could NOT agree more!
Their first charted hit (in 1970) and it made it all the way to #1! "It Don't Matter To Me", another great song, came next. Another of their best is "Baby I'm-a Want You". So is "Lost Without Your Love". How can you not love David Gates' voice?
Great voice
Try “Diary “ if you want a good cry.
Guitar Man
Bread had so many great songs. One of my favorite David Gates songs is the title track for the movie "The Goodbye Girl".
I Was 8 Years Old When Their Hit Song, . . . It Don't Matter To Me, Came Out Back In 1970, Which I Remember Hearing On The Car Radio, And I Have Loved Their Music Ever Since . . .
This was Bread’s first big hit that went to #1 in the nation in August of 1970. Bread went on to have 12 hits that made the National Top 40 ( 7 in the Top 10). David Gates has an incredible voice and wrote everyone of their hits! Bread also had 7 albums that went Gold in the USA! Love this group!
Gold was the best back then
Jason Dennis Beautiful music from 1970. I turned 25 in 1970, later this month I will turn 77. Lump in throat song, memories flood my mind. Enjoy life - time passes quickly.
It topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week on August 22nd 1970.
@@idanwillenchik3050 you are correct.
@@jaycorby congrats on the 77....I don't wanna be here at that age in this terrible terrible world.
Love, love, love Bread! There isn't a bad song in their catalog. Rob you would love Guitar Man by Bread
Love "Guitar Man"....! and "Baby I'ma want you"
I would disagree. I think "Truckin'" is the one bad song in their catalog. Everything else is brilliant or close to it.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "Baby I'm-A Want You", and "It Don't Matter To Me" !!!
Baby I'm a want you, I wore that 45 down to the grey!! lol
'Diary'...want to see if either of them listen and understand first time.
Also, the lead singer is David Gates, and he’s from Oklahoma. He just turned 81 back in December!
He went to high school with and was in a local band with Leon Russell.
Funny how I can only still picture him as that young man from back then.
His voice is so beautiful. Another great one to check out by him is Goodbye Girl.
As a matter of fact they should check out that original 1977 movie with Richard Dreyfuss and Marsha Mason.
Oh, I love that song.
@@thomastimlin1724 Great movie! Jay and Amber would enjoy it.
Yes! Loved the movie too.
I can’t remember if y’all have done “Everything I Own”, but he wrote it for his father after he died. Also, “Baby I’m-a Want You” is a good one!
They did Everything but really need to do Baby I'm-A Want You.,one of their all time greats.
Yes. They've also done "If" and "Aubrey".
They've done Everything I Own, If, and Aubrey. ruclips.net/video/8gpzZhhK_uA/видео.html
I love all their songs. Had all their albums. It's so relaxing & mellow. His voice is like silk.✌🌻🌻
@@oldeskoolnana7543 Sure is! David Gates is one of my favorite vocalists!
With all the big hits Bread had in the 70s, this was their only #1 on the Billlboard Hot 100 back in 1970, such a classic
Many young lovers absolutely loved Bread! Their songs were to love for! The led singer’s voice was nice and mellow!
When my granddaughter was about 6 or 7, she'd get off the school bus at my house. We'd have an after school snack and then do her homework. I always had either a mellow 70's or a Bread station playing. One day, "Guitar Man" by Bread played. She paused, midway through the song, and said, "Now THIS is real music, Mimi"! And went right back to her homework! That girl has good taste! 😉🧡
One of the most overlooked things about bread is, just how amazing their songwriting is! Just listen to the words it's amazing!!
I know I've said this before but, David Gates a Tulsa native, has one of best voices ever, when he was in High School (Will Rogers HS) he was in a band with Claude Russell Bridges (Leon Russell)
I'm from Tulsa, 65 years old and grew up with this music. Leon Russell, David Gates, Ronnie Dunn....so many more amazing artists from Tulsa, from that era.
@@lisawall3386 the one and only JJ Cale, the number of great musicians from Oklahoma is amazing, they could do a week or of nothing but OKLAHOMA music and still miss a bunch
@@michaellockhart554 amen, brother.
I graduated from Will Rogers as well. Don't forget Elvin Bishop also graduate from there.
@@juangalt3496 that's right he did
Bread was a great band with great songs thanks for this
I'll NEVER stop loving this group!! ❤️
Awesome sounds from Bread. Now try " Diary" so sweet.
Freddie king palace of the king
I absolutely love “Diary” and “Aubrey”, and every song by Bread. You can’t go wrong.
Aubrey is stunning
Just read your comment after I suggest those 2 same songs! 👍👍
Such a fan of their harmonies and guitar playing!! Please check out: Guitar Man, It Don't Matter To Me, Everything I Own, Baby I'm-a Want You, & Aubrey. Also consider: Let Your Love Flow by Bellamy Brothers, Lady by Little River Band; Eddie Rabbitt, Paul Davis, and Air Supply. Keep smiling! ✨😁✨
Yes!
Great suggestions
They've actually done quite a few of those :) They did 'If" back in January, "Everything I Own" back in May, "Aubrey" was back in February. "Let Your Love Flow" was back in October 21, "I Love a Rainy Night" was July 21, "I Go Crazy" was back in April, and they haven't touched Air Supply yet at all, but they really should. I'd be happy with more of any of those :D
Especially “Baby I’m-a Want You”!
@@tarynkirchen5961 Air Supply, YES!!!!! The really need to react to them!

Bread has so many beautiful songs. Their songs are so musically perfect.
The vocals perfection, the violins, the guitars a match from heaven. Lyrically ridiculous. Bonus marks for you Jordan, picking such a lovely song for Amber.💕
Great reaction. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️ ❤️ 🇨🇦🇨🇦
❤
You definitely need to hear Bread's "Guitar Man"
after "Mother Freedom" "Guitar Man" is one of their songs closest to rock.
Back when it was still cool to have an orchestra on a record, putting musicians to work for a paycheck instead of synthesized, computerized strings robbing them of a living...
I couldn’t agree more
Their album The Best of Bread is my favorite. I call it my heart songs. All the songs on just totally grabs every emotion that my heart feels.
Wow... this snapped me back to the '70's and an instant memory of my hubby and I when we first got together. 💞 Thank you again for these wonderful memories of young love.
This will always be one of those "all time favorites". Great memories of this song.
I just had my 50th high school reunion of the class of 1972. And 52yrs ago I was a sophomore in high school listening to the voice of David Gates and Bread. Awesome memories...
I was a little guy when their Greatest hits album ended up at our house. I loved the soft tones and beautiful lyrics. David Gates and Bread were very underrated. Love it. ❤
Edit__ I'm a aging Headbanger! 🤣
Guys you must check out The Good Bye Girl
By David Gates lead singer of bread he done this one solo great great song!!!!
I agree they should also react to the movie
Guitar Man, Aubrey, Baby I'm a Want You all great but you can't go wrong with Bread. Many hits to their credit.
Such a beautiful song.❤️
Bread was one of my favorites growing up. Thank you for this one. 💕 I got married at 18. Baby on the way. I wish it would have last. Blessings on your family.
1:35 that look between you two. Soul mates, without a doubt. I love how music affects people.
Y'all are such a sweet couple! That's one of the things that makes this channel so enjoyable. This from a guy who's been married to the love of his life for 40 years now. My wife and I married in 1982. This style of song is called a ballad, and this one is especially sweet. The lead singer is David Gates who also wrote all or almost all of the songs. This stuff was on the radio when I was 18 or so. The rest of the band wanted to do more rock and that's what eventually broke up the band. They did have a couple of rock songs like Mother Freedom (fav!) and Truckin' Down the Highway (another fav). In their concerts all the ladies were swooning over David Gate's voice and there were just enough rock songs to keep the guys happy. Nothing wrong with being a romantic, Amber, even a hopeless one! I'm a sucker for these ballads!
There are some real musical gems in this song. If you listen back to it and try to ignore the vocals (I know, hard to do) and listen to the guitar chord changes and the sweet fills. You called out the strings and they add a lot but you really have to listen to find what makes this song so great. My guitar teacher taught me that the space between the notes are as important as the notes themselves. Not everything has to be shredding to be good or great.
Some other songs you'd probably like are Baby I'm-a want You, Aubrey, Guitar Man, Sweet Surrender, and Everything I Own. Fun fact, David Gates is from Tulsa, Oklahoma! So there!
You know by law it was mandatory for every 70's household to own that Best Of Bread album!
"Diary" is another song by Bread that spoke to my teenage angst back in the day. Very heartfelt.
I think you mean Diary. Although Bread might have gone well with Dairy.
@@aarongoldstein7614
Schitt! Auto correct and thc! 😎✌
their song Diary will pull at your heart. Love Bread
You should react to “I’d Really Love to See You Tonight” by England Dan and John Ford Coley. I have that song right after this one on my 70s soft rock playlist
@H1D Ministries in the movie “Long kiss goodnight” there’s a scene about “I’d really love to see you tonight” an entire discussion about “I’m not talkin bout the linen” 😂😂😂
Bread was formed by some of the finest sessions men at that time, which was why they were invited by Simon and Garfunkel to help them create Bridge Over Troubled Water. Their pianist, Larry Knechtel, played that fantastic keyboard on the title track
Baby, I'm A Want You next. Quintessential Bread. It was their biggest hit next to Make It With You on Billboard's Top 100
On the bridge the trading of the melodic line between the lead guitar and the strings is like 2 partners gracefully dancing.
The lead singer David Gate’s has such a soothing voice
I attended a military school in the late '60s and early '70s. Some of us (including me) boarded there, meaning I only went home on the weekend. We lived in barracks (big rooms with single bunkbeds) and each one had a "house mother" a single woman, typically older and I think often semi-retired from something else. They had a studio apartment at one end of the barracks, and lived there 24/7, except in the summer. Sometime I suspect maybe in 1971-2 for some reason they hired a young guy to do this duty, not sure why. I'm not sure what he was doing there either, why he was doing it. In any event he moved these enormous speakers and a top-of-the-line stereo into that ttiny apartment, and he let us come in there and listen to his music. Bread was one of the groups he listend to, along with the Eagles and America, and I distinctly remember this song, along with some others. The school was pretty close to hell, but this was one of the high points I guess.
Melodic acoustic flow and easy listening vibe of lyrics...those are the words i'd choose to describe Bread....everytime i here one of their songs, its takes me back to the seventies as to where i was, who i was with, the colors of the time....just everything and nastalgic style of the 70's just floods my mind
A 1972 singer in a similar category of songs is Lobo with" I want you to want me" and "Me and you and a dog name Boo". Acoustic guitar, vocals.
I always liked Bread and I really love a lot of 70's pop and rock, and I don't shy away from the soft stuff. I'm a sentimental guy! But listening to it also provides some context that will help you understand why punk eventually came along, and why post-punk and New Wave was such an exciting thing in the late 70s and on into the 80s. I love it all... Good times!
I remember as a 4-5 year old kid going over to my favorite Aunt's house & she had this 45 !! I would look through her huge stack of 45's & play a ton of them!!
Oh yeah! I love Beard. They have so many great songs ✌❤🎶
Music from the '70s touches my heart in a way that no other music can. "Make It With You" is one of my favorites.
BREAD was the master of mellow rock/pop love songs
you closed your eyes...that says it all: Bread is that, it takes you to a perfect place and time...
BTW, Amber, the lead singer - David Gates - is originally from Tulsa.
Immersion in this song is therapeutic!
"Diary" is one of my favorites. You can't lose with Bread, they had such great songs.
As an original Flower Child I can tell you Bread was definitely part if my teenage soundtrack. Love this flashback ❤
I was 11 years old when this song came out, and I fell in love with their sound. 52 years later, I’m playing/singing this song, turning younger listeners on this beautiful music. Keep up the good work! Love you two! 😎🎶❤
Jay & Amber, Here’s my list if u care to check, from a wretched guy from a far corner of South Asia, who used to listen to Bread hour after hours during his lonely days in the 90s- 1. Baby I’m a want you 2. Too much love 3. Look what you’ve done 4. Aubrey 5. It don’t matter to me, 6. Mother Freedom, 7. Sweet Surrender 8. I use the Soap (David Gates solo)9. Diary ( I don’t remember how many times I had read the wrong diaries in my life )
I have every album from this band, and each one is a true melodic treasure. David Gates is the member who wrote and sang their wonderful hit songs, including this one. However, Bread also had *another great* singer and songwriter, James Griffin, who wrote and sang *many* amazing songs on their albums. I *love* David Gates, but my favorite Bread song of all is written and sung by James: "Just Like Yesterday."
Jay & Amber, don't forget they are from Tulsa, Oklahoma . you need to try" Everything I Own".
There’s a song called “Mother Freedom” that was a pretty big hit in the 70s and I’d heard it many many times but never known that it was Bread. I always thought it was, like, Skynyrd or someone. Ha. Totally blown away. Fantastic song.
Lead singer David gate is an undeniable legend great voice and excellent guitarist and song writer par excellence
My wife and I met when we were young at 17. Make it with you was our wedding song. We've been married 42 years. It's still be very great song.
I am a 70's baby and would love to commend you two for turning on new generations to this wonderful Era. I know where I was when I first heard this song. Now imagine, sitting on the steps of your back porch one summer day watching the clear sunny sky listening to your favorite radio station. This song begins and you immediatley become lost in the music and this wonderful voice begins to sing. You have never heard anything like this but you realize that later. Right now you are awash in emotions, lost in the moment. Beautiful white clouds start to slowly appear and float by and the wind blows gently on your face like the caress of a lover you have yet to meet. As the wind softly caresses the leaves on the trees they sway as if dancing for the heavens. You are tingling from the anticipation of what you know is going to be an amazing life. You know that you are loved and as you ease back on the steps you slowly smile. Your life is amazing but the best is yet to come.
My favourite song of Bread is "Sweet Surrender".. But i would also recommend you Jay and Amber to listen to "Baby I'ma Want You" or "Guitar Man"...❤️
A voice like fine wine
My favorite song by Bread!👍
His voice is just so perfect!
I have always loved this song!🥰🥰👍
Back in the day Bread was one of the the groups we put on the record player when we were with our girl friends. Lots of great mellow songs. ("Reminiscing") Little River Band
I'd like to suggest "It Don't Matter to Me" as a great Bread song to try out. Oh, and the "Baby, you know that..." before that last verse -- now that is pure, classic Bread!
So smooth, guitar, drums, violins, great lyrics... Sweet vocals... Combined to produce a beautiful love song... Simple, romantic, sincere... What love songs were like way back then.. love was viewed as a chance to succeed or lose.. part of life.. .
I remember my dad liking their music and so I loved them ,still do.David’s voice is perfection and the music is just in tune with it❤
My favorite Bread song..thank you guys!
So my wife and I have two sons, but if we had a daughter we’re gonna name her Aubrey, after their very beautiful song and Aubrey was her name. When we first got married we lived in a mobile home in South Carolina, and we played this bread LP over and over and over again. Beautiful music.
My older brother had more albums than I can list herein, but my older sister had only a handful that I remember vividly. Tapestry (Carole King), Best of Bread (Bread), The Carpenters ( The Singles 69-73), The Partridges (Come On Get Happy & The Partridge Family Album ), The Stone Poneys (Evergreen 2 ) and American Graffiti soundtrack. She'd play them endlessly. I haven't heard Make It With You in years yet I know every word. Mellow, easy-listening magic.
Another smooth band
I was in high school when this song came out. I listened to this song a lot while I did my homework. I can tell you that when you started this song, I remembered every word and every instrument that was played in the song.... now don't ask me how much Latin I remember from high school. lol It always amazes me how much information us humans can store in our brains... songs from the 60's on can still be recalled whenever heard. I have to tell you too that I wore your "Make Someone Smile" T-shirt to a bluegrass festival that I went to. As I was walking to my seat a gentleman yelled, "I love your shirt! Smile Everybody"....and people smiled and clapped. 😁 Take care and be well.... Thanks for your reaction. Peace.
I grew up with a dad who had a best of Bread LP. I grew up loving them and still love them to this day. Everything is just perfect to me about they're songs.
Love anything by Bread, Guitar Man, and Diary are stellar.
Wow, my older sister liked these guys, in fact we were talking a bit about them last Monday on Labor Day. She had mentioned that her favorite band member, Jimmy Griffin had died in 2005...
I used to play this album over and over again when it came out.
70's Soft Rock!
I tell you guys it was so great to listen to the radio in the '60s and '70s - always great tunes on the air. Looking back I realize, as I did at the time, that we were so lucky to have made such great music in my generation. It totally holds up through the years and is just great quality music.
Oddly enough, he writes and sings country music now.
Love Bread! Especially “If”. Really would love for you to do some live Jethro Tull. “My God” from the Isle of Wight concert. Unbelievable flute playing you have to see. He had only played the flute for 2 years and was one of the best!
One of my favourite bands, and even after all these years I can still sing along and remember every word.
Such a beautiful song
I was a high school freshman when this song came out. Baby, I'ma Want You is fantastic too. My hubs and I met in college when he was 18 and I was 22. We'll be married 42 years this coming December. Looks like we made it!
Beautiful.. I saw them live in 1979 or 80, and the whole audience was singing right along with them.. amazing experience!!
Hey y’all! “Baby I’m a Want you” (my personal favorite) and “Everything I own” are 2 great ones- 💖💙✨
I love the lyrics as well as the musicianship. I’m pretty old but I know this as a kid because I’m the youngest of a huge family. Bread’s music came out before I was even born but I love everything about them.
Bread is one of my all time favorite bands. This song brings back so many memories...candles, a great bottle of wine, strawberries and my honey. This song is one of those that just transports you to another time. You close your eyes listen and just drift.
OMG, my favorite David Gates and Bread song! There's also BABY I'M A WANT YOU which is another favorite of mine, along with IT DON'T MATTER TO ME, EVERYTHING I OWN.
🛎 Todd Rundgren - “Hello It’s Me”
Gates sounds Iike nobody else. So many great songs in my youth. I'm with Amber, give me the soft rock of the 70s.. everytime. My favorite era and genre of music.
Great reaction, great song. My favoroite of theirs is "Look What You've Done'" and "Mother Freedom". Both songs are a little more on the Rock side.
I love this one. This is American music at its best. Have you guys reacted to the band America? They remind me of Bread and they had some big hits in the 70s like 'Horse with no name', 'Ventura highway', and my personal favourite 'Tin man'.
New artist - 70 soft rock Bob Welch "Sentimental Lady"
Such a beautiful love song. Just great music that came out from the 60's and 70's with such variety.
Bread is such an underrated band. So glad you guys are giving then a listen.
A few months back I stumbled across the whole "reaction" thing and quickly found that RSR is the one worth following, great stuff people, keep up the amazing work. On the personal note for the song, back in 1976 my girlfriend and I declared this as "our song" after dancing to it so so many times on "dates" that were basically just slow dancing in the living room to the Best of Bread. Sadly that relationship ended when I graduated in 1978. Happily, 27 years later at our wedding in 2005 we made it our first dance song. We still dance to it when we hear it pretty much where ever we are and what ever we're doing. You picked a great group to love Amber! 🙂
you guys have done IF, AUBREY< and EVERYTHING I OWN, Please do GUITAR MAN , or GOODBYE GIRL next, " The Goodbye Girl' is also a most excellent rom com, movie for your other channel... I think your Bread reaction videos are my favorite, I have watched them over and over, they were the soundtrack of my youth.......also please revisit America with songs like VENTURA HIGHWAY
Never mind. I thought they'd done Ventura Highway, but that was the Adventures of TNT who reacted to it. Check them out if you haven't already. ruclips.net/video/ZDZcGSgfBIc/видео.html
