Fantastic and takes me right back to the first time I saw people dancing Northern Soul, I was working at Butlins in the early seventies, I was hooked instantly and it has stayed with me
I used to go to the Nevada in Bolton on Saturday nights disco was fab time finished around 11 where a little northern soul was played then went onto Scamps around 1979 but a few dancers used to get the last bus to Wigan for the all nighters. Never was quite old enough but my nan had a pub in Ince on the way to Wigan. Amazing fun times!
Anthony Searcy if you are ambulant, can walk and can count to 8 you can learn to dance! I learned to tap dance around 15 years ago, to be in an amdram production of 42nd Street (no I didn't fall in the sink)! 3 years ago aged 61 started in a Street dance, hip hop group, lovin it even though I probably look a bit "dad dancing"! Go for it fella, even if you do it in your own home! Plenty of tutorials on RUclips for all sorts of dancing!
Absolutely mesmerising to watch these NS dancers. My moves are pretty basic but when I'm in the zone the music takes me to a spiritual level of absolute euphoria. ✊🏿 KTF
I love it & lm in Devon Yes totally amazing why not start up your own Event Somewhere & keep the Northern Soul Going for years to come, if noone puts the effort in its not going to survive.Just be memories for the old timers. Set up down this end Somerset, Devon & Cornwall we need some Excitement here... & youv got the Talent. Thanks again love You. X
Ah, so good! The fella in the white t-shirt was at Blackpool just last weekend. Incredible dancer, brilliant to watch. I picked-up a few moves from him and went over to say hello to and tell him what an amazing dancer he was.
Northern Soul never really came down here, back in the day, to the Midlands where I live.. bloody shame.. I used to like to dance. 65 y/o now and it knackers me to even walk now .. those kids look great and are all enjoying themselves. Great to watch this stuff! they all look really fit. The kids today ought to take this up and maybe they wont be so obese! 🤣that's a proper work out on the dance floor eh?
It's.. surprize parry for baby.. vibrating vibrations. It's on here as a tape from the balcony at Wigan. The clapping is pure. Love your term "synchronised claps" ..the mind boggles ; )
Could someone please let me know which venue this is? My younger sister was very keen on Northern Soul but unfortunately she was too young to be of the Wigan Casino or Twisted Wheel venues. I think she will be very pleased to see this video.
Boxer i'll bet skipping rope training! does the guy with the pony tail have flip flops on? and the girl in the striped top is doing the 'hot Beach' dance! a great watch thanks
They are enjoying themselves there's no doubt however that's not proper northern soul dancing it is a sort of jumpity-stomp type dance....if that makes sense? there' some stomping there but it wasn't controlled...however I big up these 2 boys coz they are trying their hardest and thoroughly enjoying it and anything that brings NS to more people I am all for, it was a wonderful time to be a teenager when Northern Soul first come to my town.......so many good memories and the beauty is you could get up and dance however you wanted and even if it was just jumping about no-one cared a bit and just got on with it, however when a truly good Northern Soul Dancer hits the dance floor you will know coz the whole club will not be able to stop themselves from looking :)
Many guys dress similar and dance at these nights, ones sexuality doesn’t come into it. They are great dancers and certainly love Northern Soul...that’s what it’s all about
Me before Arthritis set in ! Followed this incredible scene since 1973 ,I am now 63 and still try to do the same moves ..with varying success 😁
Watch this frequently. And every time get cross with the guy who gets in the way at the end!! Poetry in motion boys ❤️❤️😍😍

This was one particular record when played at Wigan had strategic "claps" during the song, and none of people know it or did it.

Strategic clapping, that reminds me of a soul Song pre Northern Days but cant quite think what it was!
It's.. surprize parry for baby.. vibrating vibrations. It's on here as a tape from the balcony at Wigan. The clapping is pure.
Love your term "synchronised claps" ..the mind boggles ; )
