    Driving Downtown Streets - Main Street - Dallas Texas USA - Episode 46.
    Starting Point: Main Street - goo.gl/maps/3PEqD6qFDAu .
    The Main Street District of downtown Dallas, Texas (United States) runs along Main Street. The district is the spine of downtown Dallas, and connects many of the adjoining business and entertainment districts.
    Main Street has historically been the center of the city of Dallas. Many of Dallas' major retailers, hotels and banks once located here, and the district includes the city's early skyscrapers. Subsequent development of downtown moved north and east to the City Center District in following years, leaving many of the historic buildings inefficient for modern offices.
    The Main Street District was the first district of downtown Dallas to experience extensive urban revival. Many of the grand historic buildings that had been neglected have been restored and adapted for new use. Pegasus Plaza, an urban plaza bounded by the Magnolia Hotel, Iron Cactus Restaurant, Adolphus Tower and the Kirby Building, is a gathering place for visitors and residents at the heart of the district. The narrow tree-lined street is a major pedestrian route through downtown. The district contains many sidewalk restaurants, basement night clubs and retail stores (most notably Neiman Marcus). While several of the buildings have found new life, there are many still awaiting restoration. Main Street Garden Park is a new focal park of the district's east end.
    Commerce and Elm Streets, major east-west thoroughfares, form the boundaries of the district and also contain many additional landmark structures.

    Dallas is a major city in the state of Texas and is the largest urban center of the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the United States. The city proper ranks ninth in the U.S. and third in Texas after Houston and San Antonio.[8][9] The city's prominence arose from its historical importance as a center for the oil and cotton industries, and its position along numerous railroad lines.
    Economy
    The Dallas-Fort Worth MSA has one of the largest concentrations of corporate headquarters for publicly traded companies in the United States. Fortune Magazine's 2015 annual list of the Fortune 500 in America indicates the city of Dallas has 9 Fortune 500 companies,[90] and the DFW region as a whole has 21, reflecting the strong growth in the metro economy and up from 18 the year before.[91] In 2007-08, Comerica Bank and AT&T located their headquarters in Dallas. Additional Fortune 500 companies headquartered in Dallas include Energy Transfer Equity, HollyFrontier, Southwest Airlines, Tenet Healthcare, Texas Instruments, Dean Foods, Trinity Industries, and Energy Future Holdings. Irving is home to 6 Fortune 500 companies of its own, including ExxonMobil, the most profitable company in the world and the second largest by revenue for 2015,[90] Kimberly-Clark, Fluor (engineering), Commercial Metals, Celanese, and Pioneer Natural Resources.[90] Additional companies headquartered in the Metroplex include American Airlines, Regency Energy Partners, Atmos Energy, Neiman Marcus, 7-Eleven, Brinker International, Primoris Services, Radio Shack, D.R. Horton, AMS Pictures, id Software, ENSCO Offshore Drilling, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Chuck E. Cheese's, Zales and Fossil. Corporate headquarters in the northern suburb of Plano include HP Enterprise Services, Frito Lay, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and JCPenney. Many of these companies-and others throughout the DFW metroplex-comprise the Dallas Regional Chamber.

    may be taking a job in Dallas. It looks kind of boring there lol. Is it?

    • @thomas45081
      @thomas45081 7 лет назад +7

      Hey Travis! I know that this picture does look boring, but a drive down Main street is not accurate of Dallas at all of a view of downtown. You look young like my daughters, so I highly recommend Dallas, it is a boom town as far as business and been for years, reasonable cost of living ... and believe me, it is anything but boring, it is very spread out, the way LA is, so downtown has some decent night life and entertainment (downtown and uptown though are a little too much rent for me, I live in NW Dallas, about 15 miles from downtown), but it's the rest of the metro area spread out all over the place, and plenty all over it, that make Dallas what it is. I been all over the country as far as major cities, this is a good choice, I came here years ago from Montreal, QB, lived in Brooklyn as a kid (of course I love LA as well). I linked a better view here below of downtown Dallas too for you, from my blog, take a look.

      hey man thanks a lot for replying to my message! I may be getting a job out there in Dallas (waiting on my second interview) and I've been super nervous about a possible move there. I live in Virginia.
      your info definitely helped settle my mind quite a bit! appreciate it

    • @JasnoGT
      @JasnoGT 7 лет назад

      Hey Travis everything Thomas said is correct. Most cites have ALL or most of their activity downtown. Sunbelt cities like Dallas, Houston, LA and ATL are more spread out with multiple city centers and skylines. This makes us unique in my opinion. Check out youtube channels like InterstateJD or Screwedupclickv2 for great driving tours around the city. Good luck with your job! Peace.

    Downtown Dallas couldnt compete with downtown San Francisco on any level. People im the comment section say downtown Dallas is empty because it's hot. Myth downtown Manhattan is hot as he'll in the summer but that doesn't stop the hustle and bustle. Downtown Dallas doesn't have any foot traffic because it isn't that great plan and simple. The city needs to treat downtown Dallas as its most prized asset and make it more vibrant and Robust. Now depending on what time of the day it is you well see hustle and bustle downtown and then it tapers off. But it never tapers off in San Francisco. Dallas well have to embrace competing with other cities weather it wants to or not .

      @suzanneyoung8011 3 года назад

      Although the name of the street is Main Street, this is not considered the "main" street. There are other streets that have more than two lanes and carry more traffic. Also the other streets have more skyscrapers, and therefore have much more foot traffic around them. This one does look empty, but this was filmed during the day and definitely not during the lunch hour or you would see more people out.
      As to comparing Dallas to San Francisco, that is an absurd comparison. San Francisco does or rather did have some pretty areas and the topography is different because of the hills; however, Dallas is by far a much more safer and cleaner city. You can feel safe walking down the sidewalks. The people are nice, the streets and sidewalks are clean, and the homeless problem is minimal in Dallas. You won't see tents on the sidewalks, people defecating everywhere, people shooting up, naked people walking around or garbage on the sidewalks, and definitely no streets or sidewalks littered with used needles.
      It's completely laughable to even suggest that Dallas doesn't compare to San Francisco in a positive way. I visited San Francisco twenty-five years ago, and walked and drove all over the city. It was beautiful then. But you couldn't pay me enough money to set foot in that city ever again, or the entire state for that matter.
