This makes sense now , the reason why he uses 3 phones because smart switch can transfer iphone whatsapp data to a samsung , NOT to any android phone. Then he'll have to backup with drive so it could be transfered to any android phone afterwards.
If samsung wasnt so selfish with their app maybe this would've done easier..
