Yet another great video from you guys. Thank you so much. I didn’t know about the other necropolises and now through you I’m learning so much. I read up on the story of Sir Thomas Lipton. It was so interesting. The museum is amazing … I’ve been there before and will definitely be back. I live quite near by. I loved that close at the tenement house. Such character in them and the house itself. Thank you both again for all your research 🌻😊
We're so glad you enjoyed the video!😊 We also didn't know much about Sir Thomas Lipton's story until we first visited the Southern Necropolis😊 Thank you so much for watching!😊
@@terrifictraveltales as part of my job I manage some open data, our burial records are by far the most popular items. On average our records get 10k requests for a return on information each month.
I loved the visit to southern necropolis. This was new one for me. I knew of the northern and western necropolis but have missed this one completely. Thanks for showing me somewhere new.
Despite having been to Glasgow quite a few times, I hadn't visited any of the three places you went to. The famous (or infamous / controversial) painting called 'Christ of St John of the Cross' by Salvador Dalí was housed in the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art from 1993 to 2006, when the Kelvingrove Museum & Art Gallery was being restored, but I never went to see it in St Mungo's and the painting has been back at Kelvingrove for 19 years anyway. I intend going to the Tenement House this year, not least because I am a life member of the National Trust for Scotland, but there is a vaguely similar flat open to the public in Irvine and you can visit on a guided tour of the Scottish Maritime Museum. The place in Irvine was a stark reminder of how much harder the life of people of my grandparents' and great-grandparents' generations was.
When I was a kid I would Dog (Truant) school and hide my school books in this graveyard until the end of the day to save me carrying them with me throughout the day. We would also walk fast in circles around the white lady statue Magdalene (Gravestone) until we saw her moving and scaring ourselves that she was actually moving when in fact, we were just dizzy. Those multistory flats in the background are soon to be demolished, Caledonia Road Flats. You guys took a really long trial for a shortcut. You would have been quicker just walking from the Southern Necropolis over the Albert bridge and up the high street. Actually In now thinking that's what you were saying but your fella wanted to take the subway lol
Haha I'm sure there were plenty of hiding places for your school books! Not sure when the flats are coming down - they've been at it for a while now. Yea, could have definitely walked to St Mungo museum up High Street 😀

Your videos have become my favourite to watch, that is primarily down to your easy going style and also your great choice of accompanying music.
There's so much history in our cemeteries... rather than being morbid, they are a place to learn the story and history of a place.
Yea, that's very true.😊
