I always smile at the wood snob comments. Then I go outside and split spruce because that is the tree I needed to drop
True, that. Out back is a giant pile of years old, disreputable looking silver maple, box elder, and spruce. Barks coming off, all grey, some shrooms, you know the drill. All spalted inside too.
You split it, and its burnable in a day or two, sometimes hours. Still solid. Awesome for campfires or initial fire lays.
The neighborhood grump calls it "JUNK!!". I just laugh. Okay buddy... Makes splitting and burning it more fun, knowing how the snobs think, lol.
Yup, lots of them out there...the ugliest wood (crotches and knotty stuff ) is the best!
I live in Scotland and burn for heat during the winter. I collect wood locally, whatever I can get - ash, birch, Scots pine. Can never have enough wood, always on the lookout for more
YES! More is the right amount of wood to have!!! Thanks for watching from across the pond!
Hi Chris.
In Scandinavia the main types of trees is beech, oak, ash, birch, pine and spruce.
Aprox. half the forest area is hardwood and other half is pine, spruce and diff. types of Christmas trees!(export).
Hi from Denmark.
Hello Denmark! Thanks for watching from across the pond!
Every time you load your truck. I can hear someone thinking. How can he know how much he chucks. You're a wood chuck. They know how much wood they can chuck. Lol
You got that right! thanks
If you are looking for episode ideas, Chris, I would like to see some about chainsaw maintenance.🇺🇸
I have done a couple in the past but another would be good soon...I only do basics... I have a guy for the hard stuff ...Scott at Modern Rentals in Ripon!
Great job. Lots room for few cords there.
You got that right! Thanks!
I’m from manitoba canada all we have it’s poplar (aspen) and oak lots of people I sell to take poplar. Glad I found your channel got yourself a new subscriber sir!
Awesome! Thank you! Yup....all wood burns! ALL WOOD IS GOOD SOME IS BETTER!
That’s a big bin. I been thinking getting one them little fire pits to have beer night burn some my slash up. Great work.
Thanks...go for it!
Box Elder throws off a great flame🔥
I’m splitting up a bunch of walnut right now!
Yes it burns real nice in the fireplace, fire pit and in the stove for the not real cold season!
@@InTheWoodyard I used it on the not so cold fall mornings in my woodstove👍
It all burns if it's dry. Another great video Chris..
Yup, thanks!
Nice bin,I gotta make a couple more bins, this TN heat and humidity is making me a little lazy though.lol ,thanks Chris
Yup, the heat you down south folks get is not for me...anything over 70 is a heat wave here...I like 30-50!!!
Yessir,I keep telling my wife let's go to Wisconsin, but no luck yet.lol
It's better here than deep southern states though
Chris,the new wood 🪵 bin looks great 👍 😮😊❤
Thanks 👍 The coffee table picture book of it will be out before Christmas!
Where I live in the Pacific northwest we have elm, aspen, Russian olive, fir, pine. And few others. Mostly it's elm, but your right all wood burns, just make sure it's dry.
Yup, dry wood is the good stuff!
great segment Chris. I agree that all wood is fine....it burns. cutting my own, I'm of the attitude "if its free.....its for me". key point, like you said, it needs to be dry. love your new bin. you're gonna have to sell advance tickets....lol
Yup, it all burns! The coffee table picture book will be done by Christmas...maybe???
also love it when you tee off on the wood snobs.......please never stop
Yup, some people KNOW everything and KNOW they are right AND they like to tell you! Ha!
Great looking new bin!! It should hold a couple of cords!!!😂😂😂😂😂 Stay Hydrated and Have a Safe Day
Yup, it is very full now, you will see it soon! It has 12-15 ??? full cords i it.
Great video!
I love having firewood waste scraps. My fire pit has been burning for a month now. When I get home from work I start throwing scraps in the pit and don’t even having to re-light. Just enjoy having a fire daily winter/summer doesn’t matter.
Sounds great!
Nice wood bin🇧🇻👍
Thanks 👍 The coffee table picture book will be out before Christmas.
I have discovered a “new to me” way to use chunks and cookies. Making oak charcoal. I currently burn my wood down to coals then add them to the pit which works fine but making charcoal to keep on hand would be better. Fun show as always, thanks.
Cool idea! Thanks!
Cripes... The lady likes drinking beer by a blazing fire!! What's not to like. Cheers from HB NZ ps. Bout time for a beer over here too,now where's those matches.
Yup, most of the wood I sell is drinking wood!
Chris I got a really good laugh out of this video wood snobs and guided tours of a wood bin hahaha 😂 keep on cutting
Glad you enjoyed it... I will have a coffee table picture book featuring it out before Christmas...probably....maybe?
Being in rural colorado mountains. I dont even understand face cord, its a pickup load or is 1/3 of true cord, face cord has not anything to do with a "cord". And sellers purposely use face cord so to confuse and jack up prices. Here in colorado we buy and use per cord, a full true cord delivered is $200, un bucked unsplit $150, peak winter is $250-$300.
But most people dont buy from a dealer . They just get own from their Property or get a forest permit to pull out junk trees for firewood. Many people have too many downed trees they just give away trees and rounds of firewood for free. So it's hard for dealers even have a business in colorado
In your area...here in the mid-west EVERYONE uses face cord (same as 1/3 cord) so....
We make kindling out of Basswood. It works good! It doesn't matter what kind of wood when we are making syrup. It just needs to burn! - Tim
Yup, it all burns!
Down here where I live in Georgia. We have all different kinds of hard wood. But most people wants oak. So I know what you're talking about.
Yup, the don't know what else there is and have been told their whole life....oak...oak...oak!
@@InTheWoodyard right. I'm like you. It all will burn. Myself I will burn any kind of wood as long as it will keep me warm
Have you ever thought of making a “Chris’s favorite video list”. ?
Maybe some day??? Good idea!
G’morning Chris ! The new place looks great. Can’t wait to see it. Sweet action.
GoodNightIrene
It is already full...you will see it soon!
Locally to us 300 acres of pine was cut down for the environmental friendly wind turbines. All those logs are being driven, then shipped from Scotland to norway for turning into environmentally friendly wood pellets for boilers.
Is it just me or is the world nuts
You are not alone...a lot of "others" are going eco-nutty!
I always thought pine didn't burn as well, noticing some sap when I burned my last firewood pallet last season. I would like to see how many full cords you could get into that new bin.
Pine burns great but fast IF it is dry. The new bin is full...you will see it soon!
Good morning Chris!!😀😀
It's a work of art. LOL!!
Take care buddy!!😀😀💚
Logger Al
Thanks...I will have a coffee table picture book featuring the new bin out by Christmas...maybe??
@@InTheWoodyard LOL!!
She may be running low on wood but I bet she isn't running low on beer!! GNI
Maybe so!
Well now that tour comes with a arm load of fire wood right😂
Haaaaa!
It's the same way with me. Just a face cord is about all I sale.
I sell a lot of quantities but I ran my numbers a few times over the years and here they are ....1/4/ of the people buy one face cord (1/3 cord) 1/4 buy 2 face cords 1/4 buy 3 and the other 1/4 buy 4-12 and a few 20-30 face cords....the overall average is 2.5 - 3 face cords or about a full cord + -
Right. I've had a couple of people that bought what I had left. I just couldn't stay ahead last year. But I'm ahead of the game this year@@InTheWoodyard
My mountain neighbors burn 5 cords a year and about 5 feet of snow a year. 😅
That is a bunch of wood!
who needs an elevator when giving tours, start at the pile you want moved and hand each person a piece of wood to throw in the bin as you take the tour past it. lol
Could even take a marker and have them put their names on the block of wood before they toss it on the pile
Good ideas! I like it!
What do you think about using full totes as the walls and just pallets on the ground in between the wall of the toes? I was thinking I could go 2 totes high to make a huge bin and when it’s time to sell it I’ll take a few of the totes away to make an easy opening to get into the bin. What do you think? I’m a little worry about air flow.
Yup, that would work.
"...it burns" nothing more needed
Yup!!
kens going to give you hell if you dont get the bin done
It is done and already full, you will see it soon!
I burn all wood inc!uding 2x4s and other lumber. Variety is the spice of life or so they say.
Yup, it all burns!
Greetings from New Zealand 😊
Hello there from way down there! Thanks for watching!
@@InTheWoodyard I’m a BIG fan, I’ve been watching for the past few years and still miss your old wood yard well before you got the processor
Nice bin, show the cats occasionally 😮
Cats are on the way soon! Thanks!
2 tickets please Chris 😂you'll pay the air fair from the UK huh? here's hoping... as my dear old mum used to say, if you don't ask you don't get. happy filling!
Ha! You and 58,000 others want that! Probably not going to happen soon.
Can’t wait to see how big this pile will get!👍👍
Yuge!
LOL! It's an architectural masterpiece Chris! Cheers!
The coffee table book of it will be out before Christmas! Thanks!
Have you stopped lifting the centre floor pallets across the outside floor pallets for more airflow? Did you find it just wasn't necessary??
I could have done that for this one but it is just going to have dry oak put in it so I did not do it but yes it does help with green/fresh cut wood!
Good Morning Woodhounds!
Morning Sir Greg!!
👍👍👍
Thanks!!!
If you have snacks I’m taking the tour
Yup,l it will probably something special.... a delicacy ...like fried scabs and maybe some baked grasshopper pie all harvested from right here in the woodyard!
So! Do you have a really good memory, or do you keep a mud map somewhere of what wood you have put in what storage area? I'd forget what was where in about 3 days!
I remember when it was cut and split, what kind, how old almost down to each piece! ...all of it... yet my wife complains that I do not know what she made for supper last night....I am not normal I guess......I am like ...Abynormal!
Firewood bin is a beautiful masterpiece
Thanks, I will have a coffee table picture book out before Christmas.
How about a senior citizen discount?
Yup! And a cane or a walker to use too!
Bonjour de France,Chris, bonne continuation du 71 !
Thanks for watching from across the pond Gerard!
What a deal for such a Magnificent Piece of Art😂 The liability on kids under 5 is high, maybe $7 a head for them😂🪵👍🏼🇺🇸
True...they will get hurt for sure, lots of hazards in the wood yard! You know that!
Just wondering if we bring a pair of gloves, strong back, and a weak mind. Can we also get a price break on admission?
If you bring some creek water and 1/2 a stick of gum.
Wow, Chris- have you called Ripley yet about that unbelievable storage device?
No, but National Geographic just called the other day so.....
You made yourself a lot of work. Exercise. That will work great. You will be able to dump a lot in from all sides.
It is already FULL...you will see it soon!
Nice video Chris. Happy that the wood corrals are working so well for you. Loading them with the tractor bucket until they need to be heaped with the elevator will keep the touches mechanical instead of physical. Not all touches are equal. GNI
Yup, that is the plan!
I see what you did Chris! Have you always placed the side pallets on the bottom pallets? Keeping the side pallets off the ground will keep them from rotting. Good job - Enjoy the journey - cheers
Yes and it makes the sides higher too! Thanks for watching and noticing!
For my firepit I burn anything laying around, for my smoker I like white oak and hickory.
That sounds great, what time should I be there for my BBQ ribs???
@@InTheWoodyard I will let you know, lol.
They drying wrather so fst this year sucks compared to ladt year. But at least the entire state isn't a tinder box, waiting fof a spark to start a massive fire. Busy weekend, 6 facecords to split and stack for orders.
Yup, we have had enough rain now! Sounds like sales are going good...awesome for you!
@@InTheWoodyard hopefully the good clientele I have gives me a rest for a few weekends to get the ash firewood supply rebuilt. LOL, good luck with that!,
If you want to keep the neighbors away from your fire might try piss Elm.😉🙃
Ha! Maybe so or some wet cottonwood!
@@InTheWoodyard 💩mixed should give one the complete barnyard experience.🤪
How many cords do you figure to be able to put in that new bin?
The bin is full now...you will see it soon... there is about 20 full cords??? maybe.....FULL
i have a barn full off beech wood trees were cut down and wood was cut up split and stored on top of a huge plastic sheet within a week . i know beech is a very very wet wood but it is all gonig mouldy any idea how to stop this
Do not put it in the barn...get it out of there and in the open off the ground on pallets...wood needs air flow to dry . You will just grow mold and mushrooms in the barn.
THANX FOR THAT
Another great video. Bin looks great. When building bins didn’t you double up in the center to give more air flow in the middle of the stack ? Maybe. It was someone else. Have a great day.
Thanks, yes I did that for the wood that was fresh cut green stuff ....this will all be dry oak in this one.
Did you say free trip to your place?😅
In trade, you get free later 😉👍
Daniel you are FREE to drive over anytime!
Does the tour include a plane ticket 😎 do you have a system/measurement of space between the bins to fit the tractor/truck? Im working with .25 acre lots and wanted to probably turn it into strips of bins I can drive between, on the outside edge of an abandoned road I got easement permission to use that I can stack mule train loads on
Yes, I need to be able to drive between them. I am fresh outta tickets!
Question for you Chris- I have woods on about 40 acres and have plenty to cut. I have a dump trailer, skid steer and splitter etc. Does it make
More sense to haul logs home
And process there or cut and split on site and haul home split wood? What would you do? Thanks!
I have done both...it depends... cutting splitting and maybe even drying it there would be good...all the mess it there. But having it at home lets you work on it as you can so.... maybe BOTH??? The main thing is...just get cuttin'!
@@InTheWoodyard fair enough! Thanks for the reply!
Hi Chris good work nice video ( Ty Ron
Hey, thanks Ron!
Masterpiece👍🏻👍🏻GNI
I just won a Architectural Digest award..it is going to be featured next month on the cover!
is Hickery firewood any good ?
Yup, it is one of the BEST wood there is for heat and smell! Great wood!
Quite a thing of beauty- ought to contact Architectural Digest to come out and snap some photos! Have you considered walls of Berts loaded totes instead of pallets? Never have to deal with bulging walls and you could really mound it up
Thanks, the coffee table picture book will be out by Christmas...probably...maybe. Yes we talked an]bout it a few times.
Big bin. 😳
It is full already...you will see it soon!
Jumpins. 👍🏻
Do we have to fill it ?
Chris and we leave the kids with you all day😁
I thought I saw a puddy Cat❤
It is already full!!! You will see it soon! Lots of firewood production coming!
Can I have a face tour?
I give face tour every day here ...just turn the channel on and watch! Thanks!
If u were a tree, what tree wood u be?
That is a very good question????? I would say ironwood/hornbeam..... under story tree, not real tall, looks neat, lives a long long long time, hard as nails, tremendous heat out put, dries off fast, not good for much other than firewood or tools & specialty furniture, wild looking, not domesticated in any way, not much smell to it, not full of pride like the tall white pine or massive oak snobs, lives deep in the woods in the shade of other space hog trees....
Do you offer senior citizen or AAA discounts for your wood bin tours?
Yup, and a free cane or walker too!
You should have been a teacher or preacher cause you sure like to talk
I talk for a living. So....
ya gotta charge $11 a head....you only accept $20s....NO CHANGE!!!!!!!
Ha! I like the way you think!
You take appointments for the woodyard? Plus kids should be FREE buddy . 😊
It was a joke...
No, it was just a joke.
Yup!
Are you burning up your profits???
What profits? I just do this for fun and exercise!
Correction. There is bad wood. The kind that the government gives you when they collect their taxes.
Yup, I try not to mention the gubmint to much here..I don't want to give them a reason to ruin my life.
That’s my type of woman
?? What kind is that??
Mix is what I burn in the woodstove! Maple,Oak,Cherry,Locus,Alder,Walnut as long as it's "FREE"!
Yup, that is the good stuff...free!
Why waste the $ to travel to Egypt to see the Pyramids when a wonder of the world is at your place?
Not job Chris!
Years in the future, civilizations will study it and wonder “ how in the world did they build this”?
I just got a call from Architectural Digest...they want to put it on the cover next month...I am not sure I want the attention???
Very probable! Ha!
