This is so cool to learn! I can definitely see the pattern where I liked a lot of the GBF originals a lot more. It also sucks that some of the vocals were replaced, Vira's theme would be a lot better with vocals I think. Zooey's theme being a boss theme that kept progressing with phases makes sense, that explains why it felt like it was just building up forever. Thanks for all these fun facts!
Avatar Belial’s theme is just an evil gay love ballad and I’m honestly obsessed with it. It’s completely different from every other theme song he’s ever had. This isn’t power and insanity, it’s not sex drugs and rock and roll, it’s “I need you to exist because without you I am nothing. You’re the only being in existence to whom I feel something real, and the only thing that’s kept me going for 2000 years was the thought that one day, maybe, I would be able to see you again, to hold you, to love you and become one with you as we watch the skies fall together.” It’s beautiful on it’s own, but becomes painful when you realize that Lucilius will never feel anything beyond disdain for Belial, and Belial will allow himself to be used and consumed for the rest of eternity as long as it would please his beloved. It’s kind of crazy that the lyricists have managed to create a song that paints Belial as someone tragic, even just slightly. “A million nights could pass without a trace, so long as you’re mine.”
Granblue Versus music tier lists without hearing the entirety of each song actually brings me so much pain. Despite that, this tier list makes quite a bit of sense. Sure, I would have loved if you let Charlotta's theme cook a bit more (Song has 2 guitar solos and a part where an extra layer is added to the chorus in the back half), but I'm not gonna be miffed about it since it's at least in "goes hard" tier. By the way, a majority of the songs you thought were extremely long actually just looped. Most of Xerom's uploads don't loop. Every track in the game is just roughly 3-4 minutes of music that develops over time. But for some reason, some rips for OG DLC characters and Rising newcomers loop. For example, Zooey's theme is actually only 4 minutes and 7 seconds long while Morning Light Hymnus is 5 and a half minutes long. Neither of them are as gargantuan as Xerom's uploads make them seem.
Yeah unfortunately there was just so much to get through that I couldn't listen to all of them, video was an hour twenty even with all the skipping around lol. That makes sense about the uploads though, it seemed a little unfair for most characters to have like 4 minute themes while Avatar gets a 10 minute opera experience, but I figured it was just villain favoritism.
NOO BRICK you stopped right before my favourite part of Eustace's theme 😭 And yeah unfortunately there's a bunch of themes that just don't get to shine because they're too long for regular matches (Looking at you Zooey). They're great in training mode however, excellent background noise for labbing. Anre's theme caught me so off guard but I listen to it really often now lol
Djeeta, Lowain, Ferry, Naramaya, Soriz and Cagilostro are based on the instrumental versions of their character themes. Normally, they are singing, hence why the song has flat sections.
A lot of the themes hit harder when you know the context behind them and where they came from in the mobile game. Also Gran’s theme is the main battle theme and its used in a lot of characters’ themes.
I honestly think Lucilius' theme in rising is a significant downgrade to the ost I consider as his actual theme. Look up "Zero" granblue fantasy ost and listen to the full 12 minutes of the theme I consider as his definitive theme song
On Anre/Uno lore: He's oart of the Eternals, the most powerful people in the sky pretty much, and one of their top members next to Seofon/Siete. Giving him a final boss style theme is actually pretty fitting. Fun fact, his VA in japanese is the same as Freeza from DBZ A little personal story as well from me on him. I was really salty when he was announced as the representative of his group in the original game, so I never touched him in that at all. Skip to Rising, and he's one of my mains. I actually only heard his theme for the first time in training mode and had pretty much the same reaction as you did. As for Zooey... They kinda just adapted a full, multiple phase RPG boss battle theme into a fighting game, and it didn't quite work out in my opinion. Even if you just sit there with the standard time per round, and let the clock run, you'd only get to around the 4:50 mark of this 7+ minute song Loved your journey to master series. And hearing your opinions on these different themes, that I've been listening to myself since the original in 2020, was really entertaining in a more casual way than that. Looking forward to more stuff from you. Also a little footnote fromg me for the end of this, entirely too long, comment: Your german pronounciation of "Weißer Drache" was pretty good actually, especially not turning the "ch" into a "k" sound as it so often happens, coming from a native speaker
Yeah today I learned that Uno is basically a god, which definitely explains why his theme is so epic. The Enlightener indeed. Glad to see you're enjoying him in Rising too! You are part of a very rare breed of Uno player. I agree on Zooey's theme, I see the idea now that It's multi phase bossfight origins have been explained to me, but I think it doesn't work out that well in Rising. I'm super happy to hear that you found entertainment both in the more serious road to master content as well as this goofier stuff, I'll do my best to keep putting out engaging content for you guys! Also, good to know on the German pronunciation there. Like I mentioned in the video, at one point in my life I was near fluent in German, but that was almost 15 years ago now, so I haven't really retained much. Glad to see my pronunciation isn't complete garbage at least lol.
A little recommendation from me in terms of GBF music, pertaining to Zooey herself, is her actual boss theme "Armageddon". And if not the entire thing, at least listen to my personal favorite part 3:10 to 3:50. Although I do have a personal bias towards bagpipes
I'm a big fan of Lowain's theme mostly as a contrast to the rest of the cast. Especially the launch roster for base game mostly being fairly standard jrpg style music (which is great I love that stuff so so much) but lowain's theme is so different it really makes him feel fun and unique.
I definitely agree that it's super unique, I think it was sort of screwed by me listening to Metera's theme right before it, so the uniqueness was a little lost on me since they were both similar styles and I personally liked Metera's more.
@@Brick720Its funny because I had basically the opposite experience, a friend introducing me to gbvs showed me lowain's theme almost immediately when explaining his shitck as a joke character.
Love this vid idea, but ngl I would also love to see a more conventional tier list video from you as well. Especially now that you've completed your journey to Masters. It might just be my opinion, but I feel like saturation actually benefits fighting game tier lists rather than detracts from them. These games are so complicated with so many granular little facets to them that more eyes voicing their opinions is better than less, even if they just reinforce existing opinions. As someone with your talent for analyzing and articulating your own play, your character matchups, and your opponent's playstyles I feel like your opinion would be especially insightful. But again, just one man's opinion.
Hey I'm interested to hear this opinion! A more conventional tier list is definitely something I could be interested in creating, and would be a great exercise for me to analyze/think more about the other characters and what makes them strong/weak. This is all to say that I likely will make a proper tier list at some point, so stay tuned!
Weight of the World is beautiful. There's a few different versions of it (GBVSR version being yet another), and the Japanese version has so much emotion to it. It wouldn't really belong in a fighting game, but it's my favourite version. The GBVSR version is amazing too though. Also Charlotta theme is definitely "fire piano guy" for me. It slaps.
If I had the time to listen to the full versions of Weight of the World and Morning Light Hymnus, they probably both would have been Fire Piano Guy, I really enjoyed what I saw and I imagine it would have been ever better if I hadn't had to skip through them for time.
That's a fair take. If I had to guess Zooey's theme is probably the one that suffered the most from me not being able to sit down and listen to the full 8 minutes of it, as it seems it was doing a lot of stuff. Idk though from what I heard I wasn't in love with it, it was definitely different from a lot of other ones though.
@@Brick720 I can understand it not being everyone's cup of tea. It has a lot going on and I assume that's because Zooey, from what I gathered in versus, can be with or against Gran and Co at any given time depending on the circumstances.
Having not started this video or looked at comments, just want say "Grimnir's theme". Its just cool not to mention it gets stuck in my head like no other in this game.
Im only up to Ferry so far, but imo music needs those as you called them "filler parts" because without the rising action, the climax wouldn't hit nearly as hard. Gotta appreciate the build up. So far banger video though. Gonna like it like always lol.
Have you listened to some of the vocal versions of character themes ? (from top of my head : lowain, vira, ferry, yuel, narm, nier, sorriz have a vocal theme)
I was not aware that a lot of these had vocals that were removed in this OST, so no unfortunately. I'd imagine a lot of them would move up though, as I'm a big fan of the tracks that maintained their vocals.
@@Brick720 ruclips.net/video/L3tOKQPgiNw/видео.htmlsi=iWp4R1ue4GN-B8LI ferry theme is just straight up banger The vocal tracks are all part of an album that was sold a few years ago from my understanding so they're not in the fighting game but you can find them online
Narita studied under Nobuo Uematsu (if you dont know who he is; hes the composer for majority of Final Fantasy games) Even the most mid Granblue music are still high A tier _It would be big if you also tierlist the original versions. Dont worry about copyright, Cygames doesnt do that because of free advertisement. I have over 500 Granblue videos and none of them got striked_
Oh wow, yeah Uematsu is one of the goats for sure. That explains why nothing in this video was actively bad lol. The worst tier I had anything in was boring/annoying, and nothing was annoying, i just found some of them unremarkable. Also enough people have mentioned the original versions that I really might make a follow up to this video where I rank those after all. Thanks for the tip on the copyright too lol
Yeah some of the character themes do sound like villain themes like Percival and Zooey but the only actual villains in the game are Belial, Beelzebub, and Lucilius. Nier isnt quite a villain though she isnt exactly a good person either and imo gets more chances than she should.
Yeah that tracks, but from what other people have told me, while Percival and Zooey are not villians at all, there being a slightly more menacing tilt to their themes does make some sense, with Zooey being a bit of a wildcard and Percival have maybe done a little bit of warcriming as a joke at some point
the vocal version of vira's theme goes so much harder (emotionally) this one really doesnt do it justice imo ;-; its just about how gay she is for kat and how she loves her wife a totally normal amount
Hard disagree on Lancelot's theme. That shit is Fire Piano Tier! The first part sets a great pace for a fighting game match and it's relative simplicity makes the violin solo hit even harder. Always feels badass to play the game to that.
I'll be dabbling in some Vaseraga soon, and maybe some Soriz after that, i don't think I'll be getting them all the way to master, but I want to get some nice experience under my belt with them. It'll definitely be easier to climb with them than it was with Ladiva though since my Granblue fundamentals are just way better now than they were then. Once i get used to their new style of play, of course.
Can you explain what "goes hard" in 2b song? It doesn't have memorable lyrics; strong beat or melody you can hum. The only thing it does is just - flow. I just don't understand, that's all.
now, spare me as I don't have time to watch the whole video so I just want to comment on the final list first of all, god our opinions differ so much lmao. I love gran's theme so much, it has a really cool protagonist vibe to it, though i do hate djeeta's. I also love zeta and vaseraga's themes, specifically zeta's would be like A tier imo. also lowain. I didn't know a person could dislike that theme, lol. as for the higher tiers..I didn't know someone could _like_ katalina's theme. but at least you got beelzebub and seox up there so it's still acceptable, lol. i wont put a whole list here but i would personally have; beelzebub, seox, belial, abelial, nier, gran and maybe lowain's themes at S/highest tier. gran and lowain, while the themes alone aren't like S tier perfect, they fit the characters perfectly so i think that carries them there. for the lowest tier, honestly there are so many mid themes i'd just have to go with annoying ones, which I'd say are vira, anila, djeeta and lancelot.
Lol It's ok I know a lot of people will just take a look at the final list in this sort of video, I mean its almost an hour and a half long. I appreciate you disagreeing with me in a reasonable way though. At least we can still agree on Bubs and Seox, peace in our time.
Theme goes hard as hell until like minute 5 where they decide that 60 seconds of air raid siren is a great sendoff. I forget when it happens exactly in the theme but I just remember being apalled lol.
Alright hear me out, first like 30 seconds of Parade's Lust: Tippy top top right up there with Existence and Peace & Quiet. After that though? Ehhh Linkin Park ASMR boy whispers in my ear for too long before it gets dope again
A fellow man of culture. I think nowadays the Strive music is viewed pretty favorably, but I definitely remember when the OST was first teased and people were being very negative about many of the themes. Glad it's made a comeback in the public eye though, shit slaps.
Its funny you say Percival's theme sounds like a villian. I know he is a good guy but as a Seigfried, Percival tells him not to judge him for his past. I guess he did something not so great before.
Percival is a noble that seeks to be king. His them is very "Regal and Kingly" to start out which is why it has so many bells and the chior. His personallity is very confident and flashy. Which is where the guitars come from. I'd actually feel like he has one of the best themes in the game but thats all up to taste. As for his past, he's decimated some towns with his flame ability durring war times. Hard not to be accused of war crimes when you have dominion over fire.
@@sethhinton923This is great lore info! I suppose I may have mistaken the regality for foreboding, but I still get the sense that the theme is alluding to his dark past there with the potential warcrimes, there's something a little villainous about it that I just can't shake imo.

On Anre/Uno lore: He's oart of the Eternals, the most powerful people in the sky pretty much, and one of their top members next to Seofon/Siete. Giving him a final boss style theme is actually pretty fitting. Fun fact, his VA in japanese is the same as Freeza from DBZ
A little personal story as well from me on him.
Even if you just sit there with the standard time per round, and let the clock run, you'd only get to around the 4:50 mark of this 7+ minute song
Loved your journey to master series.
I would say Zooey's theme is one of the best non vocal themes in the game. Its the "Dancing Mad" of Granblue.
It's definitely a super unique theme. I enjoyed it quite a lot.
Thought this was a Bricky video I haven't watched to my surprise to see a GBF music tierlist... EVEN BETTER.
Glad I didn't disappoint!
You are so based for your placements for both Seox and Anre
The themes go incredibly hard what can I say
Im only up to Ferry so far, but imo music needs those as you called them "filler parts" because without the rising action, the climax wouldn't hit nearly as hard. Gotta appreciate the build up. So far banger video though. Gonna like it like always lol.
That's fair, I guess i'd like it if the filler sections were a little bit more entertaining though, if that makes sense.
@@Brick720 ruclips.net/video/L3tOKQPgiNw/видео.htmlsi=iWp4R1ue4GN-B8LI ferry theme is just straight up banger
The vocal tracks are all part of an album that was sold a few years ago from my understanding so they're not in the fighting game but you can find them online
Ill give this a listen tomorrow, its 5:30 am my time rn and I have yet to go to bed lmao.
Narita studied under Nobuo Uematsu (if you dont know who he is; hes the composer for majority of Final Fantasy games)
Even the most mid Granblue music are still high A tier
_It would be big if you also tierlist the original versions.
@20 Make sure to watch the music video version of Soriz and Cagliostro's music (officially made by Cygames). Theyre perfect
Finally a tierlist worth caring about
I like the way you think!
@@Brick720 And I like the way you think fellow villain bias bro
Yeah some of the character themes do sound like villain themes like Percival and Zooey but the only actual villains in the game are Belial, Beelzebub, and Lucilius. Nier isnt quite a villain though she isnt exactly a good person either and imo gets more chances than she should.
Yeah that tracks, but from what other people have told me, while Percival and Zooey are not villians at all, there being a slightly more menacing tilt to their themes does make some sense, with Zooey being a bit of a wildcard and Percival have maybe done a little bit of warcriming as a joke at some point
I mute every FG''s music and use my own soundtracks, so I'll have to take yall word on it. If 2B isn't in the highest tier tho... youre just wrong.
Music taste do be subjective, but it's literally one space off of the highest tier, so that's something!
I really like Vira and Zooey's themes, def in my top 5
the vocal version of vira's theme goes so much harder (emotionally) this one really doesnt do it justice imo ;-; its just about how gay she is for kat and how she loves her wife a totally normal amount
A totally normal complete obsession with my wife who doesn't realize shes my wife yet.
Hard disagree on Lancelot's theme. That shit is Fire Piano Tier! The first part sets a great pace for a fighting game match and it's relative simplicity makes the violin solo hit even harder. Always feels badass to play the game to that.
Fair enough brother, it didn't hit like that for me but I see the appeal for sure.
what is your next road to master character? I bet you it will be easier since you know how to counterplay
Lancelot’s in boring is so sad, i find i really energetic compared to Grandjeetas
Can you explain what "goes hard" in 2b song? It doesn't have memorable lyrics; strong beat or melody you can hum. The only thing it does is just - flow.
I just don't understand, that's all.
Hey brother if you don't really like it that's fair, but whatever gibberish she's spouting does nice things to my ears
now, spare me as I don't have time to watch the whole video so I just want to comment on the final list
first of all, god our opinions differ so much lmao. I love gran's theme so much, it has a really cool protagonist vibe to it, though i do hate djeeta's. I also love zeta and vaseraga's themes, specifically zeta's would be like A tier imo. also lowain. I didn't know a person could dislike that theme, lol.
as for the higher tiers..I didn't know someone could _like_ katalina's theme.
but at least you got beelzebub and seox up there so it's still acceptable, lol.
i wont put a whole list here but i would personally have;
beelzebub, seox, belial, abelial, nier, gran and maybe lowain's themes at S/highest tier. gran and lowain, while the themes alone aren't like S tier perfect, they fit the characters perfectly so i think that carries them there.
for the lowest tier, honestly there are so many mid themes i'd just have to go with annoying ones, which I'd say are vira, anila, djeeta and lancelot.
Lol It's ok I know a lot of people will just take a look at the final list in this sort of video, I mean its almost an hour and a half long. I appreciate you disagreeing with me in a reasonable way though. At least we can still agree on Bubs and Seox, peace in our time.
Can't believe the Ram theme slander, that song goes so hard.
Theme goes hard as hell until like minute 5 where they decide that 60 seconds of air raid siren is a great sendoff. I forget when it happens exactly in the theme but I just remember being apalled lol.
You need to have played Nier Automata for 2B theme to hit harder
That's fair, definitely debuffed since I dont have a connection to the character or story.
All good, it's a really good game if you wanna play it
fire piano guy tier goes hard, couldnt have a better name
Tier lists are my passion
Eustace theme tells his story and its pretty sad one
Explains why the lyrics are so tragic
If Belial's theme isn't at the top the tier list is invalid 😁
Alright hear me out, first like 30 seconds of Parade's Lust: Tippy top top right up there with Existence and Peace & Quiet. After that though? Ehhh Linkin Park ASMR boy whispers in my ear for too long before it gets dope again
Peak Content right here, love the vid
Glad to hear it!
I Just wished that for lucilius theme they would have kept the vocal part
Probably would have moved it to goes hard. I'm a vocals enjoyer.
@@Brick720 You should definitely give the original theme a listen. The retro remix doesn't really do it justice.
Guilty Gear Strive got me to buy the game from its music primarily, even if I didn't stick with the game for that long.
A fellow man of culture. I think nowadays the Strive music is viewed pretty favorably, but I definitely remember when the OST was first teased and people were being very negative about many of the themes. Glad it's made a comeback in the public eye though, shit slaps.
Half my reason to play anre is so people can hear his theme haha. I adore his song a lot.
Anre theme is super underrated for sure, other slept on themes are yuel and grimnir
Anre's theme was a huge surprise to me, it is so goddamn good and I never would have expected it
Party People being mid is SLANDER
Apparently there's a vocal version that's way better, the version in versus is just instrumental and while it's a good time, idk it just didnt hit
Its funny you say Percival's theme sounds like a villian. I know he is a good guy but as a Seigfried, Percival tells him not to judge him for his past. I guess he did something not so great before.
That makes a lot of sense, there is definitely a sinister feel to his theme.
Keep in mind he doesn't want to be evil. He wants to aspire to be King who will create a perfect peaceful kingdom. He's an idealist.
Do you stream?
Not yet, but when I feel like I have the time to commit to it consistently, it's definitely something I plan on doing. Stay tuned!
Accurate tier list, Armageddon tops all of these tho lol
A man of culture, I haven't listen to Armageddon but I might have to now.
@@Brick720 it's really good, it's zooeys original theme and her raid boss theme
