"sit down and watch a movie... build that muscle memory" man I wish someone told me that long ago... I have wasted so much time with mindless entertainment when I could have been productive at the same time. I just never put the two together. Great advice man, you just earned a sub.

SCOTT WAS A GOOD FRIEND OF MINE FOR 30 PLUS YEARS, & PURCHASED HIS RECORDING STUDIO IN NASHVILLE IN 1991, & MY SISTER MANAGED FOR 7 PLUS YEARS. I PARTICIPATED IN HIS FUNERAL IN HUMBOLDT TENN. I COULD NOT HAVE ASKED FOR A BETTER HONEST FRIEND!!!

I am curious … did his playing ability lessen as he aged … and … if so … how did he deal with it? I notice it with myself at 74 and it bums me out. I’m just not able to do what I used to do without thinking

Rob, thank you so much for showing the details of that series of licks! That's exactly what I like playing. The quick fingerpicking and muted bass, along with the reverb, makes it sound so catchy! I WILL learn this and play it as well as you!
The very first song I ever learned, I mean the only notes I could play (initially), was a version of Led Zeppelin's "Braun 'y' aur" (I know I didn't spell that correctly) on one of their early albums. I worked on it until I had every note, then I practiced or over & over (I was 17 y.o., lol) until I could really ring the notes together! My friends would watch & listen in amazement when I played it (after I got good). It was so satisfying to play, and I'm sure it ended up being "my version" after awhile.
Anyway, I'm getting back to playing after a 30 year hiatus, and looking for new material. This will be a good one to learn.
    Thanks again!

Cool video, I play this in the key of E so the chords I use are E, A7, B7, but I can’t work out the lead part for this, maybe you could do a video that shows it in different keys 🙂

Hey Swift, I got a question and out of all the music youtubers I watch, I feel like you could answer it best. Its more of a request actually..
What is up with the relationship between A minor and F major? Why do those two chords sound good in a progression? I've tried to read up on it but I haven't found a solid answer, just stuff about mediant chords and whatnot. Thanks for everything, and if it suits you, I think a video exploring this idea would be amazing.
    Happy pickin

    Hey again!
Quick question, if you have already done a tut on this please just point me in that direction but... in a 1-4-5 prog, why a D9 ? How did he come to a D9 there? A "normal" 1-4-5 would be A D E, the D9 has kinda thrown me for a spin :)
    Thanks!

I noticed that on the first few intro notes it seems easier to use the thumb on the E string to transition after to the slide in chords

Actually, Merle Travis’s playing career began in 1936, about 5 years before Chet got his start. Merle was also the first among the two to release a full length record.
