I started something at the start of the pandemic, just to minimize my exposure to other people, that has turned out to save me lots of money. I only buy groceries once a month.... on the 30th when my pension comes in. With meal planning, this works just fine. I then spend a little on the 15th because I am out of lettuce and a few fresh things. For 2022, I am expanding this to be my new system of spending on anything . I will only spend money on the 15th and 30th. This forces me to wait...and think about what I am spending my money on.
wear a uniform! I heard this idea 10 years ago when I was entering the teaching profession. An instructor told our class she wears black slacks every day, and switches out between half a dozen tops. Cuts down on closet clutter and saves lots of time. Thanks for a great video
I'm seldom seen not wearing black pants whether I'm dressing up or dressing down. Almost all tops/blouses/shirts look good with black. I'm looking forward to your Financuary videos!
I wear black, gray or navy bottoms. They usually go with any color top so that makes things easy. I do wear tank dresses in the summer. I am disabled from a stroke and have some difficulties dressing so dresses are actually easier. Doesn't work in the cold Midwest winter but does three seasons of the year! I grew up eating leftovers so I dont mind them at all and if you make something basic like grilled chicken, it is easy to change it up by turning it into chicken salad or chicken tacos or fajitas. I no longer work but used to keep a big canister of oatmeal and a jar of peanut butter in my desk. Each morning I would grab a yogurt, a Lean Cuisine a banana and sandwich round and I had breakfast, lunch and a snack for my workday. The office had ice/water and coffee so I would only occasionally buy a soda if the mood struck me. I have always stocked up in items when on sale. I just got a summer dress for $3 and a 3/4 length sleeved sweatshirt for $5. Winner! One other comment to automating your 401K savings.....many companies match the first few percent...not saving is throwing away free money! I definitely have learned to fill my online cart and then leave it. Most of the time when I go back I don't want the items. I have unsubscribed from retailers emails so I am not tempted when the next big sale comes along. I now grocery shop every 2-3 weeks. I will often need milk in the interim but a neighbor will usually get it by for me since I get my groceries delivered. Happy New Year Jennifer!
I bought a snow coat and pants that was way big for my boys for 4 dollars at a thrift store in the summer. Best four dollars ive ever spent. That coat and pants went through 3 years on each kid and now my mom who’s very small wears them :)
Meat fills our family up, and gives us more energy. We eat fewer sweets and crave "snacks" less with a meat based diet. Veggies don't cut it, so we crave more starches. Not good. Meat, for us, is worth the cost. And we eat leftovers all the time! LOL
Hi Jennifer! These are really great tips, thanks so much for putting it together. I plan on checking your meal plan binder video. I have a list of meals, but need to get them organized. Happy New Year! 🥳
Whoop! Whoop! I do all of these things. My financial goal for the year is to track our money better this year. I feel like when I pay attention then that time spent pays of with better allocation of our money. I am also focusing on buying more of our needs second-hand and teaching myself to repair some house issues instead of hiring someone. We focus on putting away for retirement and helping the kids with college since we have paid off all debt including house.
I love thrifting my clothes. I even have thrifted my workout tights that have side pockets which I love. I also thrift home decor but I have enough of that now. Thinking of low or no cost activities is good also. I have puzzles I have bought second hand on market place, a lot of wool to use up, material to use up, journaling books to fill, reading to do, yoga sites, meditation sites and self care routine to do. Visits with friends, including live video meetings to be safe, with tea and crafting. Hikes/walks in nature. I will be busy with items and activities I already have so can save money. I'm Canadian so it is cold and snowy right now but hikes in the snow is so fresh. Thanks for your ideas
Hola Jennifer, thank you for the video, everything you say makes perfect sense to me, I wish I had discovered RUclips earlier in my life, I would have realized that my frugal habits were good for my life and my family, but unfortunately being around people that don’t have this mindset can ruin your life, I’m so much happier now that I’m embracing who I am in order to be financially independent, thank you for sharing your tips, I’m like check, check, check!😄💖 and still working on a couple of them.
I found a certain style dress that I really liked and just got several in different patterns. I never have to try to match pants or skirts with tops, I just reach in my closet each morning, grab a dress and know that I'm going to look good and be comfortable.
@@jonihanna6449 I found a dress in a catalog from Anthony Richards. It's a short sleeved, V-necked, dress with patch pockets. (Pockets are important to me and they have to be patch pockets, because the side-seam pockets lose stuff when you sit down, where the patch pockets don't). Anyway, they look nice and very comfortable.
I just rotate thru my clothes. I have an "everyday clothes" and "dressier clothes" section in my closet. I always wear the top on the right end of the proper section for that day's activity, then add pants . At night the top (if it's still clean) gets put on the left end of the tops. Easy. No decisions to be made.
Something to consider with free shipping is often the shipping cost is built into the price making the overall cost more than if you got the same item and paid shipping.
Great videos and inspiration, I've been watching for a while, just realized you are nearby!!!!! Keep up the videos! My frugal activity is playing music for entertainment with my friends (drumSTRONG)

Mary and Richard's phone from Florida I have a tip that I haven't heard on anyone's list that I did to save on my mortgage. First we put as much down as we could then I asked the lender if I could pay every two weeks when I get my paycheck they granted me permission. That saved more money on interest. At the end of the year all credit card points ,money found on the money acquired through recycling aluminum cans metal cans all kinds of metal was put on the mortgage at the end of the year after taking the money out of savings where we parked it. We saved some more.
I am a extremely frugal person. I believe there are so many ways to save money it's not hard. In 2022 I will continue to be grateful. I will spend less and save more and i will be content and happy doing it. Great video.
Jennifer, I do all of these things!! #9 haha I am in total agreement with this statement but the day that the rest of my family would agree with this will be the day that it never snows in Alaska again🤣#13 I agree and in the car as well, I prefer quiet a lot of the times..True story: My husband and I went out for our anniversary this past summer at a new restaurant we had never been to before. As soon as we walked in, I wanted to do a u-turn right back out bc the music was blaring these awful country music songs ( not my preference at all ). My husband excused himself to the restroom while the waitress seated me and asked for our drink order which I politely declined saying water was just fine. When my husband returned to the table I said, "we have to leave now." ( even though he could barely hear me speak over the loud annoying music...) He initially didn't understand and was disappointed bc he had already picked up the menu and had noticed that the majority of the entrees were meat, bathed in..meat, lol I may have been a bit assertive in my request to leave but it was an awful atmosphere for me, not to mention a menu full of meat with no veggie sides even. We did leave without even notifying the waitress bc she had disappeared so I felt badly. But, I just had to get out of there. Next time, I will try to avoid leaving like that but truly, atmosphere is SO important to me.
Julia you did what you felt you needed to do. If less people stuck around because the environment (loud music in this instance) wasn't inviting maybe the restaurant would make some changes. Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to share that story ❤
@@THEJENNIFERCOOK TY for saying that from the ❤. I had felt badly but the thought of having our anniversary dinner when we couldn't even speak to each other because of the music volume would have just been a waste of money and enjoyment. I wouldn't have minded telling the waitress but she had disappeared and we didn't want to sit there forever waiting for her to come back so we decided a quick exit was the best thing & at least we hadn't ordered anything yet. I wonder why restaurants are having the music so loud? Sometimes it's loud enough just with all of the people speaking as they are eating. So much seems to be changing these days...
Hi Lindsey! Yes and no...haha! It is a hand blown flower vase I've had for years. I decided to make it a candle. I love it so much more a candle and I can keep refilling it with different scents as they burn down 🤗
I became debt free on Jan 1st!!
Yesssss!!!! A Huge Congratulations to you Mary! 😃😃😃
Congrats Mary Miller. That's awesome

Don’t just buy kids clothes a size up on retail clearance. ALWAYS check a size up at the thrift store.
