If Portugal had lost today, all eyes would have been on Ronaldo and the penalty he missed. These ''pundits'' don't understand the pressure he feels. 99% of pundits haven't even been near Ronaldo in terms of level and what people expect from them on the field.
For some reason they expect top players to be emotionless machines- make a mistake, move on. But it isn't always that simple when you know the whole world is watching and expecting a lot from you.
But it's no different than all the other disrespect Ronaldo's gotten since the beginning of his career. Always been like that. Doesn't matter what narrative the media wants to paint.

Every normal person has emotions, especially under the big pressure. Which sometimes can have a result such as tears. But: SOMETIMES. Why so many times, on so many different occasions, again and again he's "in tears", "crying", "weeping" or... "reduced to tears"? Why so many - a majority of them - great players at his level feeling similar pressure doesn't/didn't cry repeatedly so many times for various causes?
Well, that's probably one of the reasons why so many football fans are NOT the fans - to put it mildly - of Mr Cristiano Ronaldo, undoubtfully one of the best players in the world within last 20 years... How can one be a fan of such a player even appreciating his career and skills?

The reason he was crying was because of the weight on his shoulders when he stepped up to take the pen. Playing his heart out all night and having nothing to show for it; knowing what it means if Portugal lost and he let his country down when it mattered the most; looking in the stands and seeing his own mothers in tears... How could you not breakdown??? And even if he's got a big ego, who cares? He's CRISTIANO RONALDO! Those same players who grew up watching him were the same ones who supported him when he needed it the most. Talking about how he should've "proved himself like Modrić" like he wasn't the first one to step up in the shootout. The mentality to do that with the whole world watching and you have the audacity to call him embarrassing??? This whole video is pathetic! It's embarrassing it's even been kept up

I 100% disagree- they complain when England lacks passion they hate it when no emotion is shown or arrogance is shown - when Ronaldo shows DEDICATION & LOVE & PASSION FOR HIS ONE LOVE - FOOTBALL & we all know he hates losing - and who doesn’t hate losing ? And when Ronaldo shows emotions as he only human but he will show it more - we aren’t in his position we have no idea the pressures- but I see his tears like billions of others as a sign of strength NOT embarrassment- & HE HAS NOTHING TO BE EMBARRASSED ABOUT - he is a over achiever- these commentators prove that they with media and bbc have big issues with Ronaldo & seriously need to quit it. Ronaldo loves his football - his family his fans his team players his country and wants to show us all dreams are possible but it is tough & hard at PARTICULAR POINTS & that was one of those points. We ALL GOT TO EXPERIENCE HIS TEARS with him I cried millions of others watching did too- that’s how much he impacted all our hearts and souls as he isn’t fake he is true and genuine and sincere and drives hard. Wish these commentators get a grip of there uncalled for words, because each word was disturbing to hear. Ronaldo can’t perform miracles but he sure works hard & never gives him / he kept trying and trying and look how he got his result at the end.

Yeah like in the World Cup. He stormed off down the tunnel, crying when Portugal got knocked out. He should've stayed on the pitch and put an arm around the younger players. A poor excuse for a captain 👎 all about meeee

A panel of people who haven’t achieved fuck all in football slating Ronaldo. They don’t know what it’s like to have the hunger or mentality like that. Levels.

That passion is what took him to the top and their lack of it is why they never achieved anything and are pundits.

It is part of the game. If you can't handle it anymore then get out. Disappointed, yes, but to burst into tears? Really? He is long enough in the tooth to know how to react appropriately.

You're saying that like he had a choice. It's like blaming somebody for sneezing!
I tell you what pal, if you're ever in a situation when you're bursting into tears, such as a funeral, try and stop yourself and then think about how stupid your comment here is.

Emotional was true, and it is ok to be emotional and to pour out emotions, he doesn’t have to wait for the end of the game.
Seating and watching game and talking about the game is totally different from playing, which is out your mind.
Ronaldo has earned everything he has unlike someone who has been given by others.
CR7 has won the world, you can’t deny the fact, if you have doubts then please google his stats.

Do you think he was thinking of himself? He was thinking of the whole team and his nation. It's not embarrassing at all. He has something that a lot of current players lack, passion.

He had pressure to score ever since the world cup and he still wants to help his team, the entire game 0 goals and he gets the best chance of the game just to miss and let down everyone supporting him. He has not missed for a long time and for him to miss at that time is devastating

The woman is the only one with a brain, Ronaldo for the first time was thinking "I'm not good enough", you could see him getting more upset every time he missed a header or free kick. He holds himself to the highest standard, for better or for worse his ego is very high and completely believes himself to be one of the best in the world, this game was the reality check that was bound to happen eventually
