Seibu's dome is just an add-on. The ballpark was originally roofless and open. The turf areas instead of bench seating in the bleachers is because it's designed as a picnic area meets family-friendly mixed with the hardcore crazies zone. You see this grass/turb berm type "seating" in many minor league ballparks in the US and used to in some MLB spring training stadiums.
The Koshien is the Mecca of the Japanese High School Baseball Championship, the oldest, biggest and the most important student sport series, and the Koshien Stadium was built in the purpose for that. Hence the Hanshin Tigers have to held the games in Osaka Dome when the Championship, also in the name of "KOSHIEN TAIKAI", is held in August. Another and the second important student sport venue "Japanese High School Baseball Invitational Tournament" is also take place at here in March. Both of the series have the same, if not higher, popularity than the Nippon Professional Baseball.
The reason of Zozo Marine Stadium be made as donut shape is to block the strong sea wind for the Stadium was built on reclaimed land. But the wind is still strong and sometimes the game have to be stopped when the wind speed exceeds 10 m/s or more; even if the wind speed is not so strong, the sea wind still tends to form vortex inside the stadium, affecting the direction of the ball's flight.
The reason of NPB teams included the name of the parent company in the Team name is because the team is owned by the company rather than individuals. Also the company used the team to create more publicity, i.e. to promote the parent company's image. So effectively the team acts as advertisement for the company. In fact, for most of the NPB history, the name of the teams only consist of company name + nick name. To incorporate the city name is only in practice within the last two decades.
@@supersasukemaniac tbh the corporate part in the Carp's name never took off beyond official use (draft, early game introduction etc), they're still primarily addressed as Hiroshima
The reason why Buffaloes has such a cracking 2nd. stadium is because Buffaloes merged Orix Blue Wave from Kobe some years ago, so they are obliged to represent both old teams.
Unfortunately Orix failed to represent both old teams. They reintroduced a number retired by the original Kintetsu Buffaloes (1 - Keishi Suzuki), deemed by OG Buffaloes fans as an insult, thus discouraging them, who then opted to follow the Hanshin Tigers or the Rakuten Eagles that expanded in the OG Buffaloes' place, from ever joining the newly merged fandom.
I absolutely love these designs, and I wish more American stadiums were like this in that they had more outfield seating. I know they're considered 'bad seats' but it's so fun seeing fly balls come to you and having a chance at catching a home run.
Nippon Ham Fighters can't wait to get the hell out of Sapporo Dome. The team had a major falling out with the owner of the Dome (the city of Sapporo) due to its ridiculous usage fee.
Very good video, man. The NPB catches my attention, even though I'm from Mexico, and I can only follow it through the Highlights. I hope you can make a video of the stadiums of the Mexican Baseball League teams where they will play in this year 2022, please 🙏🏽😇
Fantastic!!! Ham. Lol. Keep up the excellent production and content. I would definitely like to head over to Japan and catch a ballgame. Bro, I'm a fan of your channel now cuz you don't disappoint. Cheers!
Tokyo Dome looks more like the old Hubert Humphrey MetroDome in Minneapolis. The MetroDome was home to the Minnesota Twins, Minnesota Vikings, and the University of Minnesota’s football team
That's a lot of the air pressure domes like that. The RCA Dome in Indianapolis, the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, and BC Place Stadium (before renovations) in Vancouver are some others that come to mind like that as well.
japanese here. FYI for 2023 season, there are couple updates. the Rakuten Seimei Park changed to the Rakuten Mobile Park. the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters are no longer using the Sapporo Dome. They moved to the brand new retractable domed stadium called the Escon Field Hokkaido. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Es_Con_Field_Hokkaido
While the PayPay Dome has a retractable roof, it's barley ever open. Due to it's construction with the three seprate geodesic elements making it inefficiency designed to the point it cost the equivalent of 10,000 US dollars, 2,000 of which is from electricity.
The classic bit among American sports media types is Bob Costas' relating the story about why the Nippon Ham Fighters are not to be called the "Ham Fighters".
1:24 A better internal comparison for The Big Egg would be the Metrodome, the old stadium for the Minnesota Twins, which was similar in design and also pneumatically-supported..
I stayed at the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk (then known as the JAL Resort Sea Hawk Hotel Fukuoka) the hotel next to the stadium) in Fukuoka in Nov 2007. My room was facing the stadium (then known as Fukuoka Yahoo! JAPAN Dome) on the 16th floor. Nice view.
One wrong fact. The teams are owned by those brands. Most asian teams in Japan, Korea, China, etc. are owned by the major corporations in their country.
Just letting you know that Seibu Lions were almost named TARZANs instead of Lions. Imagine Seibu dome was going to be Tarzans Dome I personally love it.
I imagine the biggest problem with the old Yakult Swallows stadium is that so much of the seating is in the outfield which is generally considered less idea than seating along the foul lines.
Most of the stadiums would be short porches in the United States, the domed stadiums host a lot of wrestling matches and SUMO tournaments. Baseball is huge in Japan, on most nights you can find a bunch of games on TV, along with Sumo matches. There are amusement park everywhere in Japan.
The Tokyo Dome in particular is associated heavily with Pro Wrestling in Japan (Puroresu). New Japan Pro Wrestling (biggest company in Japan and debatably the 2nd or 3rd biggest globally) have their biggest show of the year - WrestleKingdom in the Tokyo Dome every year on January 4th.
You forgot to mention that a lot of this stadium didnt have big parking lot 😁 (Koshien Stadium even have 0 parking spot for fans) so a lot of teams encourage fans to come to the stadium using public transportation
Just like the Boston Red Sox until 2004, the Hanshin Tigers have their own curse. Their curse is called "The Curse of the Coronel", it is on the internet. That's why they haven't won a title or went to a single title series since 1984.
Mate your videos are so much better when you ease up on the comedy. This is great! Informative with a sprinkling of shit jokes rather than a tsunami of shit jokes with very little interesting information. Thanks! Keep it up!
How bout a video of stadiums in the Mexican League, pro baseball. BTW: If I ever go to Japan, and I am one day, visiting NPB stadiums is in top 3 reasons to see Japan. I'd start with the Hanshin Tigers stadium. Thmx for vid.
Those stadiums are awesome! I can imagine that American football, especially college football, played at any of those stadiums. That could be worth something to watched.
That's a trend that used to exist very commonly in America. Industrial baseball leagues used to be a thing, although they were never major leagues. Most professional soccer teams until about the 30s were company teams, and many of the first NFL teams started the same way. The Green Bay Packers were literally the company team of a meatpacking plant.
The companies don't sponsor the team - they OWN the team.
exactly
Love this walkthrough of the parks. I hope you'll fancy an update in 2023, for, let's say, there'd be some pleasant change.

Yeah! KBO has some brand new stadiums, which should be quite interesting for stadium fans.
