CUMMINS PT PUMP FUEL BUTTON CHANGE, MORE FUEL AND MORE RPMS!

- IN THIS VIDEO I MAKE SOME CHANGES TO THE CUMMINS PT PUMP. THIS ENGINE WAS ALREADY SET UP TO THE RECOMMENDED RPM'S AND FUEL RATE. THE OWNER WANTS A MORE FUEL AND SOME MORE RPMS. I ADVISED AGAINST IT, BUT HE INSISTED. SO HERE WE GO.
THIS VIDEO IS PART OF AN ONGOING SERIES. THIS TRUCK BELONGS TO A FRIEND OF MINE. I HAVE BEEN HELPING HIM TO BUILD A BUSINESS. THAT BUSINESS IS VERY BUSY FOR A SHORT WINDOW OF TIME EACH YEAR. THE REST OF THE YEAR IS STEADY. SO IT NEEDS TO BE READY TO GO ALL DAY EVERY DAY.
HOPEFULLY THIS WILL BE THE LAST OF THE MAJOR WORK TO THIS TRUCK. - Авто/Мото
The attention to every detail is what matters especially when you know you have a higher standard than most. Thanks for keeping this a no bs channel😎😎
I love these old engines where all it takes to move more fuel is simply installing a few shims. Pretty neat!
the shims add rpms. the fuel button and internal shaft screw add fuel.
Great video J.C.Smith really enjoy watching you work on this engine. It sounds great looking forward to your next video stay safe Mr & Mrs J.C.Smith.
Motor sounds real healthy---nice job J.C. !!!
I know some love the sound of a cat, but a hummin Cummins always sounds good
J.C., I saw a cool dodge dually bed earlier on marketplace. It was a 10,000 plus option on those trucks new, a buddy has one on his.
It looks like a normal bed but the sides hinge up to reveal storage compartments. I’ll try to find the ad again.
That brings back some great memories from back in the 80's. I used to keep a supply of those lead anti-tamper balls for tge throttle shaft in my tool box. Truck drivers always want more power and were usually willing to pay for it. Lol
JC my dad used to keep extra shims on his key chain ring. On certain trips he would bring the Mack truck home to change them to add fuel increase power. I remember people talking about “Stingers” I don’t know what they were talking about I guess those shims were called stingers I guess.
hello J.C & Mrs. Smith & it's is Randy and i like yours video is cool Thanks J.C. & Mrs. Smith Friends Randy
Sounds amazing .Great work
Thanks for sharing. Safe travels
Hi JC thank you for sharing 😅
16:13 purrs like a kitten. Nice work!!!
When I was a kid that was my job in the shop when a driver would bring a truck in and he was pretty good I was allowed to add 1/8" of shims and we used 5 buttons it was awesome to be 10 years old and be every drivers hero in the fleet
Awesome video!!! The spring and shim install @ 13 to 14:00 was Great👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I sure do miss your common sense videos keep em coming
Wow that is a learning experience
very very good 👍
You sounded well pleased with the way that turned out. Presumably the careful setting is the part which is the most important there, but I bet the owner will think it is all down to the pump......
i am assuming whoever removed the jakes didnt set the over head properly. it would have likely run better just with it adjusted and not needed more fuel.
The vid we all been waiting for….. YAAAAAY…!
U know the rule ! Change one thing ,which changes everything . So many slap on bigger turbos . With no consideration to AF ratio . Been a while since been in a PT pump . Those cameras on a flex cord work well in blind places . As always thanks for the fly fire wall view . Have a good one u and Mrs smith !
yep. this is as far as i am willing to go without flow matching pump to injects and changing exhaust manifold and turbo. this is a lower compression engine so it can take some more air and fuel while not hurting its longevity.
In my experience, higher performance often results in better fuel mileage
😎👍
Nice work J.C 🙂👍 I'm glad you're pleased how it turned out 🔧🔩
Very cool video ! So it looks like if you did need to adjust the idle rpm you could just remove the plug from the end of the bowl and stick a screw driver in without removing the bowl ? That truck idles good but just asking to learn 👍👍
yes. that is what that plug is for. hard part is, you have to adjust if without any fuel. then start it. get all the air out. see if it is where you want it. if not, do it all over. cummins makes a tool that seals it and allows for adjustment with fuel still in it.
I’m sure the diesel has a bunch of additives that make it smell.
Eu quero ponto do motor
I’ve found the only way to change those Cummins filters is to drop them in a pail,,or on the ground 😂
Just wondering why you did not adjust the idle RPM with the adjustment screw at the pump, and choose to change the shims instead ?
the idle rpm is fine. its the governed rpm speed that was too low for him. we added a couple hundred rpms.
Got it.
The Cummins PT pump sets them apart from the other brands. I've never messed with them how much reliability is changed with this mod?
.when its set up properly with the injectors flow matched, the right turbo, right exhaust manifold and right compression ratio....it will last as long as the driver pays attention to whats going on. if he ignores evertyhting, he could burn it tot he ground
@@j.c.smithprojects ahh so it will be melted in 6 months

What do you estimate is the max HP you can gain from these motors by putting the lowest numbers button and turning the shaft screw out?
