  • This is a series of three Crystal radios that need some cleaning up. We will restore each one, all slightly different, then test them all together at the end. The Cat Whisker Snippet that I released prior to this video is used in one of these radios. While simple, they are also complex in some ways. We will draw up diagrams, schematics, rewind coils, create detectors, and do a relatively thorough rebuild on each one. I used Shellac on 2 of these radios and Lacquer on one. It's really hard to pinpoint when they were made. My guess is 1950's to1960's.

Very nice work. Congrats. Those were the days receivers had same idea. TRF, regenerative, reflex, hetodin, superheterodyne etc. But the heart beat was "ferrite coil". Inductance+band width, without IF amp and scant active electronic parts required front end coils.. Nice work..

    Good result and restoration! :)
I used similar coil for TRF receiver as a tunning coil. Works ok.
