Kodee's affection and attitude towards Colleen is truly cult-like. It legit reminds me of cult documentaries and the way members are in total emotional/physical servitude to the leaders. Especially the one-sided dm's where Colleen wouldn't bother replying and Kodee's like plotting and saying 'love you' over and over. But the weird thing is, you can also see how Kodee thrived off the manipulation and control. They were simultaneously a doormat and a bully at the same time. The fact that Colleen offered to apologize publicly (which was probably a *huge* stretch for her ego, and she probably assumed Kodee would be like omg no you don't have to) and Kodee thought it'd be fine to make a list of demands to be included in the apology was hilarious. Having been (obviously) in the Helluva Boss Fandom, I can tell you that mentally ill adults are the main instigators of these types of parasocial movements. I see it much more in ages 20-25 but there are definitely older ones who are so sick and lack any kind of hope or purpose in their own life and thus project that into their idols and "comforts". Like these content creators are just comfort items to them, but while more sane people would just collect plushies or some shit, they instead used real fucking people.
Its fascinating to watch the systemic meltdown when they watch their community start to fracture. While Helluva Boss and Vivziepop haven't done anything like Colleen and others (that we know of), the Fandom started fracturing and filtering away due to a decrease in quality and these mentally ill adults in the Fandom had full twitter meltdowns. I'm talking 23 year olds making whole ass threads about how everyone should keep their opinions to themselves, blissfully unaware of how hypocritical they are being. It's truly pathetic.

God I remember being a kid (maybe 15 or so) and having to talk my 30 year old internet “friend” off a ledge like three times a week lol. It doesn’t bother me these days, but looking back I realize how messed up it was. Minors, if any adult online starts venting and expecting you to be responsible for their emotional stability, tell them to go get a therapist and block them.
Same. I was groomed so much as a minor I didn’t see an issue until I became an adult, looking back those convos were completely inappropriate. Which is why I’m so interested in this situation. For all the victims of grooming out there we can’t let her and others continue to get away with this. We can’t let the creepy adults play the victim.

Eventually, she’ll put out a statement saying that she is taking a break and seeking help for a non-disclosed mental health and/or substance abuse issue. She’ll return in about a year and quietly just stop doing the Miranda character and focus on rebranding herself solely as a mommy vlogger. I wouldn’t be surprised if she became a born again Christian and exploited that market, who seem to overlook bad behavior.

It is WILD that people think Colleen’s controversy is “just as bad” as a drag show… Like first of all, most drag performances take place in clubs and bars, spaces that are *explicitly* made for adults and tun away children, unlike Colleen’s readily accessible RUclips channel and live shows. Second, the kids-related drag shows are usually stuff like drag queen readalongs or drag queen brunch or a show that actually does meet the standard for PG13, and generally don’t involve the same acts performed at a bar or a club, while Colleen… does the same OR WORSE when kids are actually in her presence. A lot of queer spaces do include sex, yes, but 99.9999% of queer people will explicitly state things like “pride is not for kids”… while bars and clubs are *obviously* not for kids, and no drag queen is trying to foster a harmful parasocial relationship to groom children. They’re entirely different.

man i feel so validated by all of this coming to light. i ALWAYS felt an ick about the Miranda Sings character. it always read to me as mocking a person with a disability. i remember part of the miranda character's backstory was that she had a creepy uncle who it was strongly implied was m*lesting her. there was an old video where she showed her audience the creepy "massages" her uncle would give her.... I was always so so so uncomfortable with that. like she was straight up playing a character that was a vulnerable/disabled person getting abused by a family member and making fun of that. just. ick. honestly I'm just surprised it took until now for people to realize how creepy her whole act is.
I'm not sure where you got that theory from? I don't know any disabled people who use that sort of adult language/innuendos, or has this sort of superior attitude, has that much self confidence and thinks their the best thing to ever exist ect. Miranda was always meant to portray an out of touch, self important, selfish/self obsessed, dumb, ditzy and inappropriate person. Someone we can clearly see as a character because no one actually acts that way. Not every adult talking to teens is immediately a creep. As a teen I had harmless friendships with adults, e.g . because of common hobbies like sports.
BUT: they never contacted me to seek a close friendship, tried to party with me or lure me into any closer contact than I was comfortable with. Neither did they use me as their confidante. I am very grateful that they showed me how healthy friendships with an age difference work.
Adults that respect the age difference always show responsibility and keep a healthy distance, even if the teen seeks more contact.
I was in a program as a kid called Big Brothers Big Sisters, and it was a program where needy kids got taken out to do fun activities with a safe adult 'brother' or 'sister'. I had some awesome big sister's that showed me alot of really cool things, the boundaries were never crossed. Idk if that program still exists, but it's a shame because in today's world it just wouldn't fly, we drift closer to hell everyday.
So I just saw someone film her live she just did. It was on twitter. I can’t believe her show is still going! She was talking about drugs sex and drinking in a high school skit. How the hell is she still doing her tour? What I saw just now is definitely not for children!

I remember back in the beginning of Colleen getting big, I heard her in some video saying she based the Miranda character off of the “untalented classmates that thought they were amazing” when she was in theatre school or whatever she went to school for. She based everything off of bullying and hatred. Girl thought she was more talented than everyone but made it big making fun of who she thought as beneath her. From the beginning I never liked her or her characters. Girlie has big problems.

I remember watching a solitary vlog of Colleen's where she filmed her child pooping his diaper highlighting the face he made when he defecated. In response I commented 'gross' and was immediately dog-piled upon by Ballinger fans claiming *I* was the one with issues for being disgusted by this material and all its implications.
Ive since learned that the Ballinger Fam played a large role RUclips's removal of comments from content containing children to prevent predators exploiting timestamps as a direction to degrading, humiliating, provocative material depicting children.
The Balligers were OPPOSED to removing comments as a safeguard to protecting their children and it hindsight it seems Collen was exploiting predation for views and $!!!

It has been so frustrating seeing the debate on whether she was grooming or not. People were caught up with her intent as if everyone knew what the hell she is thinking. Impossible? Under 18 = no internet access, or supervised and a time limit, meaning the child only gets X amount of time to be online and the parent is watching the entire time. It's a very simple fix. Kids do not NEED to be online, we all grew up (elder millennials and older) without and survived just fine.

This is a lesson for every parent. Don’t let your kid have a smart phone until they’re at a mature age to use it and when you do monitor what they’re looking at and who they’re talking to. They can have privacy but if you’re going to leave the phone that you’ve bought for them unattended, they will more than likely watch things you don’t approve of and talk to people you have no clue about.
His mother was monitoring and checking his phone but he had two accts, as encouraged by Coleen, so she had no way of knowing the extent of the damage. Also, not giving a 14yo a phone at this point in time is essentially pointless. There is nothing they can do on there they can’t do with a school laptop which they have to have and leaving them without one is both socially isolating and unsafe. Parents need to work something out that doesn’t involve the kid not getting a phone. You can’t pass school these days without tech so parents have to come up with actual ways to make their kids trust them and come to them. Crazy, I know!

The crazy thing is, when I was younger and watching her (I was the targeted audience) that I knew what she was saying was inappropriate to the point I knew I couldn’t watch her in front of my parents. This of course didn’t give me a red flag as I was younger and naive and just thought this is just “new humor” to get used to. As years go on I stopped watching her and forgot about her jokes. This will show the rest of the influencers out there that they will not get away with this behavior and that we all see a huge problem with it!
This isn’t about parasocial relationships. Parasocial relationships are when one party is invested and engaged and imagines a much closer bond than the one they actually have with the celebrity or creator. Coleen was responding and engaging Adam so this isn’t parasocial it’s just social. That does bring up questions about fraternising with fans but it’s not about parasocial relationships. At all.
It’s so interesting to hear Paige talk about how parents when she grew up knew not to go into their kids private diaries. I know so many parents with NO concept of appropriate boundaries who would snoop in their kids journals to know what was going on with them. Not due to any particular concerns… just because they see attempts at privacy as a form of “rebellion.” Think Ruby Frankie.

Her netflix show was so creepy with the uncle innuendo. The uncles creepiness was just laughed off. So, there was no real lesson of be wary of creepy uncles. It was, haha theres a predatory uncle after miranda. Her kids potentially have a creepy uncle too. Trent's messages to minors were wildly inappropriate.
That was the first I ever heard of her and it was outrageous how creepy the relationship with the uncle was portrayed. I didn’t realise she was a RUclipsr and remember being genuinely shocked and trying to work out what the comedy was as it clearly wasn’t ok for kids. I am just now realizing I was groomed as a 15-19 yr old by a 36 yr old. We would hang out and do crafts at first. She talked about her own divorce, gave someone who was about 20 a blowjob in the car when we went to go get ice cream, talked about trying to kill herself and her baby. She talked about just giving her kid away to the point that I asked her to just give her to me. I got a trailer when I turned 18 that I was remodeling because of this. She had teen boys and girls always over at her house, sleeping in the bed with her and her toddler. I knew enough at the time that I eventually called CPS, as a physically abused child it took alot to do that as I was always afraid of foster care myself. Well CPS did nothing, she found out it was me through one of our mutual “friends”who was also much older than me. She’s dead now, meth I guess, I didn’t know she was on it back then. But worse the little girl that I was trying to get out of there was SAed, she was only 4 when I left. I don’t know when it happened but she has been adopted, her brothers keep me informed about how she’s doing because I watched her all the time, I bought formula, new clothes and food for her and she slept over at my trailer. She called me Dad (I’m gender fluid and was dressing very masc at the time, long story short when she was 1 and a half years old I ran her dad off down the road with one of the swords she had hanging on the wall because he shot up in the car while she was playing in the road and she nearly got ran over while I was at work and when I found out I was legitimately going to maim him. And he didn’t come over anymore when I was around especially after I poured sugar in his gas tank when I got home and he was “watching” her and I found more tourniquets. I was about 16 or 17. The 36 yr old woman thought it was hilarious that I was so “protective” but this guy was only 18 at the time meaning she had conceived her as a minor. Not saying what I did was exactly a good thing because that guy is a potential person who abused the little girl… it’s taking a lot to not call her mine because she’s not but it might be a trauma bond thing, I started nursing school in high school and trying to get a place to live for her because her mother would talk about just giving her over to me or getting rid of her all the time. It sounds really crazy when I write it out… but I was so sure. When she let the guy I kept running off hurt one of the boys I finally called CPS. I wish I had called sooner.
