Actually, I think Paul smudged the binding circle on purpose. You can see when he looks back at Dream, he gives him a small nod like "If none of them will do it, I will"
This was my interpretation as well.

I don’t know if it was intentional to begin with, but the look back could be more like “Well, if it’s done, it’s done, and probably already should have been.”
@@0okamino That’s basically what I took from it. I don’t think it was intentional, but once it was done, he knowingly let it slide & didn’t tell anyone.
I'm pretty sure it was on purpose, because of the way he looked at Dream, and I take it a step further: Dream knew Paul was finally freeing him, which is why he punished Alex, but spared Paul.
Encephalitis Lethargica is a real disease that began around this time, Gaiman used it to great effect for the comic.
The film Awakenings was based on it too.
They think it may have been a side-effect of a certain strain of polio, but nobody knows for sure what caused it.

Something cool: Dave McKean, the artist who did the amazing cover art for the comics, came out of retirement to design those closing credits sequences. So in a little way he's still responsible for the 'cover art'

The comics had Dream caught for 70 years and Dream escapes in 1989. For the show they rounded dream's captivity up to a century which brings the timeline to roughly present day. It makes the introduction story work better bc its keeps that roaring 1920s occult phase storyline strong. Only downside is the slight plothole of making both Alex and Unity WAY older (110+), which you caught. But hey, this is story about Endless dieties which are anthropomorphic embodiments of universal concepts, so something, something, magic made them have more longevity

True. I think aside for the time stretch this follows the comic very closely very well done.
Being close to the sandman prolongs your lifespan as well as the use of his objects. Thats why Alex and people close to Dream are older than normal humans. Endless.

This series exceeded my expectations, some episodes are so good, glad you are reacting to it.

It shows just how much Roderick didn't care about anything in the house but those tools.
@@ShadowyFox_86 I mean, those tools got him the money. If someone steals your wallet or your bank account, the bank account is a bigger problem.
It's always so wild to me that the Sleepy Sickness was a real thing that happened, for whatever reason.
A lot of supernatural and fantasy stuff are based off of real life diseases that really had no explanation to why they were happening. Like it's so weird maybe now we could explain it but back in the day people basically thought it was a weird phenomenon or basically magic and it might as well have been because what the f***😂.
I think Paul intended to destroy the circle around Dream. He probably knew by then what those symbols meant and I don't think he ever agreed to keeping Dream caged up like that in the basement since day one.
Every time he sees Dream, he's trying to get the young Burgess to do the right thing. And when realizes the last chance is passing, he has to do it himself.
Alex life was extended when they had first taken all of Dreams stuff when he was a kid so that extended his life until Ethel left and then the aging began. I don't know that for sure but that's what would make the most sense.
They lengthened the captivity period to bring the story to modernity. They tried to solve the longevity issue of the involved humans by "contact with endless prolongs life".

I read the comics when they came out but not much since, so I remember some things and not others, which is fine.
I've watched the first few episodes (I don't like to binge), and so far the best things are the casting, and the overall design. What a great looking series.
By the way, it was said early in the episode that having Dream's tools in the waking world will, among other things, prolong your life, so that's probably why Alex lives so long (because he was around the tools for years).
But the lady who was pregnant left with the stuff.
Episode 6 is fantastic (I've seen it all) also read the comics when they came out (was in my late teens). They made some allowances for TV, but IMO it's about 95% faithful to the source, which is awesome.

@@testpattern23 That is awesome to hear. I hope you’re talking about the entire series. I’ve only watched this one episode yet. In the Witcher, the adaptation was too creative and challenging and it hurt the reception. Too many fans of the book were overly offended by some adaptation choices in S2, while some newbies got overly confused by the story weaving approach in S1. And there were some “dumb” things in S2. Those factors seemed to unnecessarily dampen the enthusiasm of the fan base both old and new. I wonder if Netflix, with WB, collectively tried to learn from Witcher “mistakes” of too liberal an adaptation and insufficient explanation. Anyway. I’m looking forward to the rest of this series.

It happened to me too. I fell asleep and could wake up for almost a week, so I got kicked out for not paying my rent. Now I know its because they captured the Sandman. (Try telling that to my landlord). :)

It is when you're uploading a reaction to a public RUclips channel mainly built on making reactions, you know, the thing that their viewers click on to see people REACT to things that they've watched. If this was a personal Facebook video uploaded for their close friends and family I wouldn't be here would I?
It's the same thing when reactors read their unfiltered comments and get spoiled on the show they are watching, it alters the reaction and you don't get to see a true "reaction" to the media.
it's fine if one is already familiar with the content, the pure unaltered reactions can come from the ones that don't, in this case the guy. But when you go "oooh, aah" and "I know that guy" when a character pops up sets a different expectation than normal to the one who doesn't know what's going to happen.
I've seen other reactions where one reactor has already seen/read the content in its entirety and the other hasn't. It provides an interesting dynamic but the one who HAS seen everything is very good about not giving anything away. Therefore allowing the other one to experience things organically and doesn't possibly alter their reaction.
And before you go "if you don't like it find another video" No, I don't think I will. I like these guys reactions for the most part and I'm just posting my concern because for me PERSONALLY I like watching reactions where they don't already know what's going to happen. Because that's a pure reaction down to its core.
And yes, at the end of the day it's their channel and they can do whatever the hell they want. But it is well within my business to type my concern in a damn youtube video comment section lol. They can ignore it if they want and that is well within their rights.

The Sand/Ruby affects those near these artifacts; it SLOWS human aging. It does not Hold/Freezes the humans current age for 'eternity'.

Nightmares are beings from the Dream world, regular Dream beings cant survive in the human realm but Nightmares thrive in it - is what the intro means.

My head canon is Roderick did the spell correctly, but Death diverted it away from her because she CANNOT afford to be captured. She’s likely the most powerful Endless and can easily shrug it off. But it had to go somewhere and snared Dream instead.
I was thinking that in this version, it would have had no effect if none of the Endless were manifested in the physical world, but Dream just happened to be catching the Corinthian in the waking world at that exact moment.
Dream is one of the most powerful Endless too. His influence still exists even after Death and he can shape reality too. I think they caught him because only he was at the Waking World
That creative but doesn’t ring true to me.
Your head canon is a good theory until later episodes that will debunk it. Let's just say the "cast by an amateur" line has much more meaning than you think. The spell would never have snared Death to begin with.
I loved this series, I never read the comics but I know a little of this character, I think this show was better than what I expected

LOVED that Paul broke the circle and yet asked for Nothing in exchanged for Dream's freedom.
@@genevap3475 100% he asked for nothing and alex only asked for their safety but it was still something he wanted from dream, not to mention he killed jesamay so I can't blame dream for being angry still
Paul never did anything to Dream or asked Dream for anything. He just wanted Dream to be free and tried at every turn to convince Alex to do so. When that didn't happen (and Paul knew this would be the last time), he took matters into his own hand. Kind of wild to think he saved the waking world in doing so.

Don't watch the ending its spoilers!!! I am in love with this series, it is a very wild ride. The comics were praised by critics and fans when they came out. Charles Dance's Roderick Burgess is kind of like a Robert Baratheon/Ned Stark type, he's a pivotal player in the beginning who gets everything rolling in a sense... hope you guys enjoy as much as I do.

The Endless aren’t gods, they are a step above gods. At the end of time and the gods and everything else is dead it will be up to the Endless to shut things down and move on to whatever is next.
27:13 They were probably referring to Destruction or the death of the first Despair. Difference between Dream and Destruction is Destruction renounced his responsibilities a long time ago but things still get destroyed as intended. Death gets caught in a trap and the dreaming crumbles.
4:57 The Endless aren't deities. Death is the personification of the concept of death. Death is death itself. Same with her siblings. They don't need to be worshipped like gods nor do they want to.

luckily, Death wasn't on Earth at that time. Imagine if Burgres actually captures Death, that would be a disaster. But I don't think he could do that, that spell was shit and that guy was lucky cause Dream was weak, he just returned from a battle with some old gods.
