It’s here and it’s spectacular. What did you think of the first episode?
Also, we had to cut out the awesome season preview at the end unfortunately. YT kept picking it up.

I enjoyed it a great deal. Not perfect, but it was the best adaptations in a string a recent adaptations put on screen. My own issue is with some of the costume designs( Lucifer and Choronzon designs were too costume-y). While I love Gwendolyn Christie, she isn't what I pictured Lucifer as. For an actress I really was thinking Tilda Swinton, though she already played one evil angel and this might be typecasting. For an actor, I was thinking Peter Capaldi, though he's a tad too old and also already played an angel, lol. After Stranger Things, Jamie Campbell Bower is a very good choice as well, but he might be a better Remiel. The other two gripes I have is the camera/filter, it's too much like that awful Sabrina show. And the score. It's serviceable but I was expecting a lot more variety, from medieval chants to Baroque to Late Romanticism to jazz and Classic Rock to R%B and post-modern electronic synth stuff, and new agey abstract stuff, since the story takes place throughout time. But it's great other than these

I enjoy they have stayed most true with the original source material. Most of these adaptations go and change award winning material just because they can.

Very good, obviously it’s not perfect but it’s a really good adaptation, especially for a comic that is very tough to adapt I think They did a fantastic job. Look forward to seeing the rest of your reactions

The benefit of letting the creator be a part of the show is that instead of it being an "adaptation", it's more like an "update". The author gets to fix and expand and add into the show with the benefit of hindsight. So we've got some changes, and enough changes so that comic fans have some surprises, but all the changes feel like good choices.

It has the distinct feel of a Neil Gaiman world. The cast is so amazing. Dream especially. There's just something about the performance that I immediately buy into. Like I never doubt that I'm observing one of the Endless doing his thing.

The one thing I've learned in the Sandman universe so far. Death isn't the one should be afraid of, we should more scared of the guy who controls our dreams and nightmares.

I haven't watched the whole show but in the comics Dream says it outright, wondering why are mortals so afraid of his sister when he's much more terrifying. Death is ironically the kindest and least scary of the Endless. :P

  • @darksfallen

    Love the reaction!
I'm so glad Neil Gaiman is an Executive Producer and assisted in adapting it for the modern day. Sure they had to extend his prison for 30 more years I like seeing it in today's world. I like to think as, with Gaiman a part of it, all the extra stuff we see, are just extra panes of the comics they couldn't fit in the limited space. Just a more complete telling of Gaiman's.
I'm curious in the reasoning to forgive Alex and give much lighter punishment than in the source material, perhaps not to put the audience off. A curse of "eternal waking" while might have been interesting to see (and might have been horrific like in the source) did seem out of place for someone they seemed to be trying to humanize a little more I guess? Still happy with all of it!
I DID want to hear that voice utter one of my favorite lines, Dream has some of the best language bubbles, and lines. While sitting in that chair after freeing himself and addressing Alex...
...There are offenses that are unpardonable...

    • @ShadowyFox_86
      @ShadowyFox_86 2 года назад +7

I like to think it's that Alex wasn't solely evil like his father. He showed some decency, and when he fell, it was due to his own dreams of acceptance. Or it may have been that it was a gift to Alex's partner for freeing Dream. The look that's shared...his partner definitely recognized what he had done.

Neil answered this on tumblr. They did film the eternal waking but during test screenings the test audience didn’t care for alex’s fate and only wanted to know that dream gets back home, so the scene was changed.

Hi Guys, So pleased you are reacting to this series - It's my all time favourite comic run (followed closely by the original Chris Claremont X-Men run) This was my most anticipated show for 2022 and this first season does not disappoint.
This is such a beautifully crafted show, I really hope it achieves the numbers Netflix wants, so we get further seasons - gagging to see Delight / Delirium and hear Lucifers speech on the beach (so many characters are introduced in this season) hopefully we'll get to see all their stories in time.
You guys are amongst my favourite reactors, mainly because to your knowledge of the lore for whatever we are watching.
So glad that in my lifetime, I've gotten to see all the characters and places translated to film, where before it was in my minds eye - Mordor, Asgard and now the Dreaming.

is his natural body apparantly with no cgi at all, which shocked me when I heard that in an interview, just training and diet and being locked in a glass ball for 4 hour filming sets does that to you it seems.

Part of it is that they cast him for the role for quite some time before filming actually started. He wanted a physique that would perfectly match the role, so he apparently spent a number of months doing rigorous workouts while barely eating.

I have to say, I didn’t like the changes they made to Alex Burgess’s character in this adaptation. All he wanted was assurance that Morpheus wouldn’t kill him afterwards, and he would’ve let Dream out right away. Dream chose to be an utter moron and not agree that that eminently reasonable request, and now he condemns him to an eternal nightmare? How was that supposed to make Dream look?
