I'm Throwing Away Years of Training!

- We are still in Bali! My freediving training has been going really well although I am going back to basics. My technique needs some fine tuning. It needs quite a bit of fine tuning! I have always been able to continue freediving deeper but in order to progress COMFORTABLY I need to establish some new and more conducive habits. Its always hard to take a step back but sometimes that enables you to run forwards!
We also take our Sony A7S MarkII and Paralenz for a dive to do a camera comparison... check out the results! Also, for those of you who don't know how to make a neck weight it is super easy and I'll show you how.
Thank you so much to Apnea Bali for all your help with my training and also to Eli at Apnea Bali for your help with filming most of the dive footage of me you see here, you have been a lifesaver!

I love it! You know you're ready to get to the next level when you're willing to empty your cup again. Great mindset !
I had a asome day of freedive. Broke my deep record free immersion en no fins. My buddy broke also his record. And on the way home i saw your new video. What a lovely day. Your channel helps me in a fun way.
That's awesome Ray! So stoked for you :) And so happy the videos are helpful :)
Hey Adam! In my experience with shooting on mirrorless cameras underwater the final image result is determined way before you get into premiere pro. Biggest tip is to set a custom white balance at depth. In the A7S ii you may have to do this in photo mode first which is a bit of a ball ache but possibly something you can set to a custom button. Say at 10m depth point the camera at the reef or sand and use that to capture a custom white balance. This will drop the blues and crank the reds and things will look more normal. I wouldn't shoot in sLog 2 because it's only 8 bit colour space and you will get heavy banding issues on blues if you grade it too hard. Slog also doesn't perform well in low light.
Ah bro thanks so much! I'll have a look at my camera now and see if I can program a 10m white balance into one one the buttons. By the way yours are the only spearing vids that I watch and the only decent ones out there in my opinion. No one else seems to understands how to create a narrative.
Thanks Adam, too kind! I’ve sent you a DM on ‘gram with some snaps I’ve taken with a custom white balance and a GH5, should be able to get similar results with your camera with a bit of fiddling.
Kudos to you Adam for taking the nxt step with your training! There comes a time in every professional athletes career when they have to take a good hard look at their technique to see if there are areas of improvement. To realize that some of your techniques need to be changed so that you can advance your performance, are some of the hardest changes to make, as the old techniques are so automated and have become so 'comfortable' and 'reliable'...we just know they work for what you need them to do (which must be an incredibly reassuring feeling when participating in your field of sport). But, to advance you must change & adapt your technique, which means leaving your comfort zone...becoming anxious, & unsure (which isn't at all how you want to feel for freediving, because it interferes with your relaxation)...and sometimes what proves to be the best technique, at first, seems quite foreign, strange and maybe even a bit uncomfortable. Good on ya' though...can't wait for your nxt instalment, and keep up the fantastic work!! :)
Thanks so much Rory! You see the situation perfectly :) I know I often make light of things in my videos but it actually has been quite a tough process. In many ways I'm feeling like a beginner again, i'm having issues performing basic skills because they're foreign to me and it's emotional at times but I'm coming out strong now! I just did a 92m dive that was the best and easiest dive i've ever done to that depth so ideally I'll be back over 100 in a few days and just loving it!
@@AdamFreediver That's great to hear! I can't wait to see where your new techniques will lead you to, in the future :) Best of luck, & enjoy.
The other day i did my first co2 table, and my max breath hold went from 3:38 to 4:44 already. What the heck?
I'm still trying to get a 100% success rate on hands free equalising while holding my breath. Kind of hit and miss atm. Gret vid as always! :D
That's awesome bro! Huge progress :) Hands free takes time just stick with it!
Remember who forgot to bring a memory card for your drone last time? :D
Hahahaha it's always me
Freediving BO hahaha Adam's the worst
About camera's in good light conditions they are not too far apart, but when the light goes down the A7II should show a clear difference (colours, detail, noise), especially in the shadow areas. To see the benefit of the bigger lens en sensor use a fast aperture (F4 and lower), and use Slog2. Slog3 will give a bit better dynamic range over Slog2 but it falls apart quicker because the 8 bit compression. Do some on land side by side test with a consistent static scene where you control the light and have detail in the highlights and shadows.Aside from selecting the F-stop also choose the shutter speed to 1/60 when you're filming 30fps, let the camera choose the ISO automatically.I think Daan Verhoeven can give you more detailed advice.
On your diving and quest for more speed, have you tried going down arms over head? I think that is the way of the future, if you can retain enough relaxation that is. Work on those shoulders!btw on that last dive the current looks massive!
Thanks Kars! I have some experimenting to do to seems! :) I've been playing with my camera settings all day :) about the freefalling, I now have a 1mps descent time but I was actually just thinking about freefalling with the arms above my head the other day! haha I think i'll try it out. I can't imagine it being too challenging to maintain relaxation during freefall. The biggest issue I can see would be to not allow the slight engagement/tension in the shoulders reach the neck area
..."Heart to heart conversation" ... well done and well said. TY and greatings from Swiss Mountains ☆
Your best video yet, your getting better and better content
Thanks Eric! I think so too :) We're just getting more and more of a feel for it
Hey Adam, first of all, amazing video. Thank you for all the informations!
Second of all, i’ve got question/request which are:
1. Please make a video of you making your own neck weight, like a how to? (once u found the thickness to your liking, ofc)
2. What is that fins that erin use towards the end of the video?
Keep up the good work :)
I'll definitely make that video :) I'm not sure what fins Erin was using, we just grabbed them from the dive shop because they were her size
To answer my own question, and your not-knowing, it's the GULL Safe Fins. it looks very flexible to me and suits Erin very well :)@@AdamFreediver i'll look forward to watching your how to, i'm planning to make one my own, so i will wait for your guidance. :)
Was just looking at your neck weight wondering if you made it or bought it. Then you showed us how!
I’m sure you know this, but the nice thing about the Sony is it’s not over exposed, basically you can always make an image brighter without losing quality, if you recorded it too bright you cannot keep the quality.
There is a simple way of colorgrading making one layer on top of footage so through the whole video it’s that grade. It works but not ideal
Thanks for the tip!!! I've been spending the day playing around with colour grading and it's been fun! I really love the Sony. It's such a nice camera :)
Well good luck with elie man ur gonna be a dad congrats
Also the editting
Also throwing away your techniques although i find them useful in my free dive
Thanks so much! So many exciting things coming up :)
Good quality video as always
Just Dream BIG ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you :)
5:40 Dang that hat is Smashing!! Time to steal that from Erin😉
hahaha It's mine now haha
Awesome video as always
Thanks Marcus :)
Love the hat.
height of fashion ;)
Thanks for another nice post Erin and Adam :D
Thank you! glad you liked it!
Apnea bali, amazing team!
Dan Schultz we LOVE it here!!!
they are :)
Adam , good afternoon I enjoy all your videos. I new this world of free diving . I get a burning sensation on my thoracic and get Panic attack how could you control this I’m trying very hard to relax. Free diving in the ocean is totally different from the pool in the pool. My static apnea is two minutes. On the open water I get Urge to breathe could you help me out how to concentrate on this even though you did a video on it. My name is Hector and I greatly appreciate for your home. God bless you and your family
Back 2 Basics! Good luck Titan!
Thank you!!! :)
Damn if only I could live near an ocean
Time to move????
Hey adam if you need to make a new neck weight i would go to an aussie bike shop only because its easier. You want a 20x2.85 or a 20x3.0 thorn proof bike tube. They are a fair bit thicker and the sizing will make it wider.
Awesome video. On an old note: you’ve made videos on equalizing, but could you explain what your preference is with a mask on and swimming between 0-60 feet? Keep up the good work!
Thanks Christian :) for those depths it's best to just Frenzel equalise :)
Nice. Be interesting to hear more about your camera setups in future vids. All the best for the birth.
Bor Nodnoc deal!
We were just talking about that and we'll start doing it :)
How about that timing! I went to your channel 45 minutes ago to see if you had any new videos! Nice insight into the training :)
Thanks Felix :) I really want to get more deep diving insight on the channel. :) I'll keep it coming
adorable!!!
nice video always
Thank you :) we love the feedback :)
Hai Adam...
I would like to ask, how do you guys pack your Carbon Fins on the flight to Bali? Did you guys checked in Baggage or you bring it onboard?
Get a inner tube for a downhill bike they are thicker but more expensive
Hunting :) there aren't many options here but hopefully I'll find something soon
put your videos and pfotos through the app Dive+ (on IOS) it will correct the colors.
Ha ha ha, the thickness of the tubes😁😂🤣 but there is a trick for that, once you feel it, inflate it so it get wider and the pellets fill the inflated space so you can add more.
Hypnotic Gnome very smart!!
@@freedivingfamily2394 just learned that watching Ben at Freedive HQ Philippines facing the same problem...(he did not purchased 4 different length of inner tubes but had to find how to fill like a lot of kg on a not so long tube;-) so I was smart to watch him being smart;-)
hahaha yes you were haha
I double up the bike tubes for extra protection against ruptures. So once I fill up one with 2 kilos, I put baby powder on in and shove it inside another tube...and you can turn one inside out and pull it back the right way over the first tube too. :)
Haha I always see everyone's nice pretty neckweights and think 'i'll make a nice one soon' and then I never do and I keep diving with my electrical tape monstrocities hahaha doubling up is definitely the way to go :)
@@AdamFreediver ooo mine is still an electrical tape monstrosity too! Hahah some people have an art for making theirs pretty and mine still just fall in the category of ugly but functional. In fact, the last one I did basically came out like a sturdy triangle xD
hahahaha I think a triangle isn't a bad shape for one though
Does the nauticam housing supports red filters? gopro footage looks way better when those are used. I find that trying to color correcting without it is way too hard and it doesn't come out that nice.
RE: Colour Grading. The best thing you can do is stick on a red filter pre-grade to combat the lack of red light penetrating the water. This makes a big difference. The deeper you go, the denser the filter.
Naughtycam-Housing! :D :D :D Yes Sir...
always :)
The Sony looked better but until you get used to them it is hard to tell which will be best.
Most bike tyre tubes are same it is just the circumference that is different, but types are cir' X rim depth size. That is what confused you.
Definitely haha I got blinded by all the numbers :)
Awesome video! by any chance what's the sunscreen you guys use, your wife seems to be nicely covered at the start!
For a moment I thought you would be starting from scratch on the sense of diving exhaled. Have you trained/practiced exhaled? like Sebastien Murat ?
haha well that would be crazy haha. Most freedivers train on exhale for a few different reasons. I never dive deeper than 40m on exhale because it would serve no function for my deep dives :)
You must work with davinci first of all. And check to record on slog 2 and tu make up youre color setup allright on Davinci... Im on my way to loock for the perfect setup i tell you when i got it. Best regard Adam!
Ah awesome! Yes Please let me know :) I really should start working with Davinci. haha I've been resisting because I'm just not ready to get my head around a whole other program
Have you ever been deep when you have encountered a large fish (shark) 🇨🇦
sure have :) it was great. Tuna!
Love the hat
I'm a fashionable guy ;)
Hey adam, i ve heard you cant travel with neck weights on airlines is that true? Looking forward to deep week in 7 weeks... hopefully i get to bring my neck weight. Ps i have extra tubing if you still need by then. 😁✌️
Very exciting!!!! I've got the neckweight sorted now hahaha it was an adventure! you can fly with them but you have to check them in. They won't let you take them on as hand luggage :)
How can you figt fhat pressure in ears?? I dive in 4m pool and i have a lot of pains in my head and ears. Please help
But how...????
You are Chuck norris..
@@alexanderurban3095 even chuck can have some hidden complaints. Dont say it loud....
@@ChuckNorris-ud5jj search for how to equalize, or even better, do a freediving course if you're interested!
As already stated, you need to equalize your ears. Don't dive below 2 or 3 metres without being able to do that. You could damage your ears
Start equalizing before you dive, then after 1, 2 etc meter. Lso equalize in time! When you feel pain, you are to late
That hat..... Where did you get it??
Prada ;)
What thickness size r u looking for?
I'm just going to do shallow dives to 70m
hahahhaha It's all relative :)
Hi Adam, What's the name of the song when you are diving down with your monofin? At 4:50
I'm not sure. Erin chooses the music from a subscription music website that we subscribe to and we usually don't note the names of songs but I think we should start doing it haha :)
Adam Freediver don't see why not? Great work as always. 👍 thank you so much for your sharing
How to improve diving tehnique if i don.t have a place to dive? And it.s winter in Roumania...
You can train in the pool with your dive buddies :)
@@AdamFreediver thank you man!
The sony one is a lot better, higher detail, higher contrast, higher lighting range.
Definitely :)
Yall seem nauseatingly happy.
hahahaha true. It's what diving all day every day does to a person
hello adam... when i dive or hold my breath my chest feels weird as if it was gonna pressure up inside.. pls help
hello, i had the same thing, do some stretching as much as you can and it will change everything
Stretching can help but in general the pressure you're feeling most likely comes from tension in your chest or your equalisation technique. Shift some focus to your relaxation and you'll feel better
warung rusti has seriously good food!
Checking it out today!
Music on 0:17 plsss
First comment
Yeah Sam! it's become quite a race these days
First like (:3
Yeah Marcus!
It’s only stupidity to do freediving alone
