Why is Cardmarket's videos better at showing every crucial piece of information than actual Magic tourneys were? I'd LOVE more content like this.
probably because that’s not the point of tournaments, they make it a point here to keep it understandable
@@tesla6938 it should be the point of magic tournaments though. If you know what’s going on then it doesn’t matter how detailed the card overlay is, but if you’re new then it makes a huge difference. That’s how you get more players into competitive magic - making it understandable so that everyone can enjoy the crazy plays and lucky draws.
@@tesla6938 Nah, there really isn't a reason to not make it clear what cards are being played if you can, the tournaments wanted this as well - the actual difference is that this is a video instead of a live stream, so there is time to edit stuff.
The livestreams that cardmarket did of this format still had great production, but it is noticeably less polished than what you can see here.
Germans... go figure~
Because you can’t edit live coverage
Love the relevant board state info being displayed. Blows my mind that you guys have been able to create the most viewer friendly live matches in the history of MTG. Hope your innovations turn up becoming the standard for other videos.
Oh except for commander games. Please don't display all the possible on board effects in the midst of a hectic commander game 😆
🤣
Fun match, Karsten is a great guest! The editing of the effects to keep in mind on screen really helped keep the matches clear on this one, kudos to the editing team!
Wilhelm scream is a classic sound effect. Works great in Magic too.
Frank Karsten again! :)
I really like how Frank is a maths guy and is calculating his steps precisely. Also he is very good in communicating his predictions and its nice and easy to follow his logic during the games.
Let the weekend begin.:D !!
Also nice Ragavan Token Animation^^
@0%9F%98%85%F0%9F%98%85el/UCytdbxLYsDU8kCq-w5FQbQA Thank you! Frank took a shortcut there by not puting it on the board, so I had to improvise 😅

This is probably the best 1v1 magic on RUclips. Great guests, clean presentation, and very enlightening commentary to really help us learn the thought processes behind the gameplay. Thanks again!
Love the reminders for static abilities on the sides of the screen (like Thalia's [1] more to cast noncreature spells)
Need this is all future paper magic coverage! Great job cardmarket team :)
Arguably one of the best episodes to date.
Very aggressive decks show a different side of the game to new and current players. It shows that MTG can be more than a slow pace or combo game. Love it!
I watch a few different channels with people playing mtg and I really like the way you guys do it with these asides where you explain your reasoning, the way you show what everyone has on hand etc. I don't know of any channel who does it better.
I really like the addition of rules text to the card names on either side of the screen! Makes the game that much easier to follow!
"This Wedding Amnouncement is really taking over the game." Is such a great sentence.
The little animations and sound effects are great. Love how lively they make the gameplay together with the amazing commentary. Can't wait for the Regionals tomorrow!
I don't know if you came up with the intercuts of the players during the match or whether you're following the style of other people, but I really appreciate it regardless! Being able to hear the player's analysis and thought process during the match is awesome. Post-match analysis is always interesting but there's nothing like hearing the players explain their actions right before they do them.
(And if it was somebody on your team who came up with the idea, then major kudos to them!)
We just copied interviews in reality TV, but it was a solution we came up with for an alternative to having commentators explain the plays :)
Incredible how well these guys are able to predict what the other could have in hand, in mind or sideboard. Blown away. Top tier video and great overlay. Keep it up folks
I really think these Cardmarket pro player matches are the best Magic the Gathering videos on the internet by far!
Technical quality, as in resolution + lighting + overlays are lightyears ahead compared to any other paper MtG content.
Also, gameplay quality is superb, as are the explanations by the players. And the pacing of everything is really perfect. Keep up the good work!
I also would like to point out that I greatly appreciate that you feature these competitive formats like Pioneer, Modern and Legacy. Not to throw too much shade on Commander, I love the brewing, but RUclips is flooded with Commander videos, where gameplay is like four people (often times) really doing nothing of consequence for a couple of turns until someone seemingly randomly combos off and wins the game... while here, you really have players literally fighting for inches, every micro-decision seems to matter...
Commander is the most popular format but honestly I agree, I've always gravitated more towards constructed play
Thank you! We try our best 😃 the whole idea behind the channel originally was "why can't we have game knights for pro tours?"
I must really do a shout out to how good the info on the screen was with cards in hand, effects happening ect. Really easy to follow even if you don't know all the cards.
Happy to see humans finally being played on the channel!
Love listening to Frank's explanations
Best paper Magic content on RUclips. Thanks guys!
these videos are so easy to follow, and i love it. I know most of the cards they play with, but i don't know all of them and its great to see them on screen. i also love the commentary, it really puts it a step above
Favourite match so far! Extremely high level play from some great players, two really fun decks and as always beautiful production. Keep it up CM!
They shouldn't have let Arne out of the Feature Match Live Pen. Clearly he is too powerful for the edited videos.
these might be the best magic videos on youtube for competitive players. so much info about game decisions and the production is on another level
Great videos. Thanks folks.
Great games, the editing is fantastic and it’s cool to see the legend Frank Karsten play!
Never been this early xd
Great that you brought Frank Karsten! Iconic player!
He is :)
Excellent content, really enjoying all of it.
Keep it up guys.
Also premium guests in both Frank and Andrea, also Arne. 'Chefs kiss'
Great!!! I love Mono-White Humans, thanks for all the great content!!
I'm still having the Orvar discard flashbacks
I've been a cardmarket costumer since 2013, and I've recently discovered your channel.
It's everything that I'm missing right now from Magic as a whole: Great content with renown Pro's showing off different formats and analyzing their own strategy and decisions, all while being fun and with great clarity and readability. (Former ProTour-Coverage still has a place in my heart for that reason)
In my opinion Commander is fun for the occasional get together with friends, but it's not what Magic was designed for back in the 90ies. Formats like Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, even Pauper and Standard truly show what this game is supposed to look and feel like (minus some Modern Horizons cards I guess :P)
PS:
And for a more in-depth reason why I think Commander just doesn't *quite* work as a format - If you look at stats and numbers of cards, most of them are designed for 1v1 matches: 2/2 creatures, 3 damage spells, counterspells etc... If you raise the life total to 40, suddenly one of the most core mechanics of the game - the creature v creature combat, combat-tricks and so on - just doesn't work any more.
Well, that's my 5 cents for ya. Cheers
Thank you for the kind words! 😃 and, I feel you. For me, commander is a board game, legacy to standard are TCGs. They use the same cards but are entirely different games
Big fan of Frank from my affinity days in modern. Glad to see he's still active!
I love seeing top-tier pioneer play like this, love to see more!
A great episode! Love it how the quality of the videos is going up : ) Great to see some guests!
This was a fun match. I love Embercleave and mono red aggro was the first challenger deck I ever bought
Thanks cardmarket! This is the content we want. Keep it up!
Always great to have these two guys in a video
Cardmarket's channel became my fav with all this great various content and guests❤❤❤
I'm happy you enjoy :) we'll make sure to keep up the quality of the content so you keep on enjoying it!
Love to see Frank play! I miss the more Modern/Pioneer focus of the channel. Commander is cool, but the high-level competitive play is so interesting to watch, especially with the amazing editing showing hands…as well as the interviews explaining plays.
these videos are F*****G amazing!
Weird interaction I just noticed, “stomp” on bonecrusher giant says that damage cannot be prevented until end of turn, and so stops damage being prevented with the protection gained from brave the elements.
This is the difference between casual players and professional players knowing what card you need to bring in from your sideboard and what cards to take out is very important But another thing is knowing when the Mulligan these guys know immediately whether or not they should Mulligan and a lot of times when people are playing they go I'm following you at this this his hand will go off these guys don't go off that they go off known probabilities
thanks for the content. great video with good commentary. good insight into the tactics 👍
Great video! Very insightful! :)
Your guys’ content is always awesome!
With the recent rules change to transform cards having the same mana value on the back as is on the front, do they also have the same amount of devotion as is on the front?
It's such a confusing rule 😅 so although it has the same mana value as the front, it technically has 0 devotion
Great video! Makes me happy that I just built mono white humans, too!
Absolutely amazing presentation
Love your Videos of Pioneer! Keep going this fantastic content! 🎉
I love how Frank already had the Statistics ready on the Die Roll lol
The music kinda slaps this episode🔥😳
Fun video
Great duo
Sweet cards
Great video, greetings from Sofia :)
Good luck today! 🥳
might you have played embercleave for 3 mana at 19:00 to see if you could force a brave the elements?
Glad to see reckless rage get some love!
Is the Nykthos that necessary in the red deck? I'm just curious
The mono white price is surely flipped right?
I’d trade my right arm to sit across the table from either of these players. What legendary players
What would protection from white do at 21:35 ? Does it prevent all the trample damage ?
it would prevent 4 damage, since even if you have protection you still have to assign lethal damage twice because of double strike.
4 Wishclaw Talisman
4 Time Sieve
4 Bloodchief's Thirst
4 Marauding Blight-Priest
4 Saw It Coming
4 The Underworld Cookbook
4 Academy Manufactor
4 Trickster's Talisman
4 Spell Pierce
i have not made a sideboard nor mana base yet but this is an infinite turn deck using Time Sieve+The Underworld Cookbook+2Academy Manufactor with Priest as a food wincon. as you should sac 3 clues and 2 food to get x food and 3x treasure where x is the amount of turns you take. basic premise is to get the combo working and then draw your entire deck and discard all but the priest. play it with the treasures then sac all the food to ping for one. this is budget but vito does work better in the priests spot
Heyo, any guide on setup/equipment used to make this video? Love the content!
We don't have any guide already made anywhere, but the best tips I can give you is that good lighting is more important that a good camera in these cases (and also cheaper!). You just need 3 cameras, one on each player and one overhead. There are not any good existing rigs for overhead cameras for tabletop games so we just have a tripod and a pole (usually used for holding up green screens) and we tie the camera on top with a clamp. Outdie of that, Lapel microphones are pretty inexpensive as far as microphones go (ours are about 60eur each) and you can just plug each of them intro a zoom H4N (we use an H8N because we also sometimes do commander games). For lighting, I'd recommend getting some low level LED and soft boxes that point directly at the players and are positioned right next to them, and then point some barn doors or spotlights to them from behind (ours are at the sides, right out of the frame of the camera). This helps keep the whole table illuminated and makes our inexpensive cameras look much fancier by backlighting the players :)
Hope this helps!
@@CardmarketMagic First things first: Thank you. Your willingness to impart knowledge (both of cardboard and of setting up to film said cardboard) is massively appreciated.
A few additional questions, if you're willing (understandable if not).
1. What lighting equipment do you recommend? Any particular equipment/links would be massively appreciated.
2. Do the Lapel mics adequately prevent loud shuffling/card movement sounds while allowing proper bass in your opinions?
3. Which clamps do you find most effective for holding up Camera's?
4. Focusrite vs. Zoom H8n, thoughts?
Lastly, you've got a fan for life either way. Been following Frank Karsten (his articles regarding manabases are still passed around here in the US) for more than a decade and the moment I see him on a video I know it's gonna be excellent.
I love what I do so of course I'm thrilled when other people want to do the same!
1: For lighting, there is so much out there, for the barn doors we use Walimex pro LED Sirius 160 Bi Color. One on each side behind the player pointing at them from the back. We also have two spotlights pointing from the back. We really just got the cheapest ones we could find on amazon 😅. We then have two soft boxes pointed to each player, positioned from next to their opponent's shoulder. Once egain, we got the cheapest soft box package we could find on amazon. I then put to LED camera-mounted lights on each camera pointing to the players the camera is not looking at, as a fill light. That's it (of course we have the neon sign in the back but that does not do much. We also got some cheap blue lights pointing to the wall to add some depth.
2: We have Shure Motiv MVL/A lapel mics. They capture the shuffling but in a muted way that ads to the gameplay. They are phanthom powered though, so if you get them, make sure to get a cable that allows phanthom power. One really important thing is to soundproof your room for echo. Reverberation can make any mic sound cheap. we solved that by filling our backwall with foam.
3: The clamps we use are Manfrotto 035 Super Clamp along with the camera fixture you can get with it. It's really sturdy and allows us to really get the camera to point to the table properly!
4: We use Zoom, as I have always used zoom and am use to it. But it's really an apple vs microsoft kind of thing, go with what you are comfortable with!
Finally, I would like to add that, although using DSLR cameras will provide much better footage, they cannot film for as long as a match lasts. So get a video camera. They are cheaper anyway. We use to use Canon XA11 but now we use SONY FDR-AX53. It's pretty expensive if you are starting out but it's insanely cheap compared to most cameras used in higher quality youtube productions.
I'm thrilled that you like the content and, yes, having Frank over was incredible! We are lucky to have the Cardmarket budget to just fly over whoever we please (we save money on the equipment so we can invite big guests). If you have any further questions, feel free to write to shows@cardmarket.com and I'll be happy to answer them. RUclips makes it so that it's harder for us to spot comments on threads we have already commented on for some reason...
@@CardmarketMagic
Something is wrong (or at least weird) with the price for the mono white deck. It says Online Average 234€ and CardMarket price 682€. I doubt you want to show that it costs 3x as much on CM, righ?
I switched the TCG player and cardmarket price by mistake 😬 but noticed far too late. Still! Thank you for pointing it out :)
Woot. Go mono white!
I guess something went wrong with the mono-white humans deck price?
Yes we put the TCG player price in the Cardmarket slot and the Cardmarket Slot in the TCG player one by mistake 😅 but we only noticed it 3 hours before upload and these videos take more than 3 hours to render...
Is it possible to bring Arne back for some more videos? Love watching his gameplay on this channel. Goes without saying we want more Frank Karsten but I know y'all know that :)
Arne is great :) but we realized that the average viewers don't know any pro magic players, so when inviting guests, we try to focus on those that the most people want to see. But also, we'll try our best to have more Frank Karsten :) Frank is a pillar of the MTG community
Where did you get those human tokens? They're so sick!
www.rkpost.net/
We actually always use the WotC original tokens for clarity, but even Arne here was just blown away by the beauty of these tokens so we made an exception :D
@@CardmarketMagic They are absolutely beautiful
Loved it
Jolly good show
Why did Frank's soul scar Mage not die at 26:46?
Prowess triggers before the damage comes out
I'd love to see an AI cards Commander duel.
Love the content and I'm subscribed and like the video! But PLEAAASE get some better music in here. The stock, milquetoast background instrumental pop grates on me
I'm not a fan of the music either 😅 but unfortunately, we have to go with music that would not distract from the game too much but still complements to moments in the match, which tends to be elevator music :) it's not what I'd listen to on your own time, but it's very practical when you are trying to pay attention to a game without closely listening to the music!
Wow fire content
I think you messed up the prices for the second deck ;'-D
We did 😅 I swapped the TCG player and cardmarket price by mistake. But good catch!
@@CardmarketMagic it does not impede the excellent content the slightest btw!
Good job!
It's incredible what you guys are doing in the channel :D
Is there a way to watch the tournament in Sofia onilne?
Yes! The stream just ended about an hour ago
m.twitch.tv/legacyeuropeantour
@@CardmarketMagic Oh nice, thanks!
24:10 stomp would work even with a brave the elements
Stomp wouldnt work. It says damage cant be prevented but brave the elements gives protection from red. So the creature couldnt be targeted by the stomp and it would fizzle.
If im correct :) otherwise please let me know
You are correct! And this is such a common mistake so, really, good on you!
Also, fwiw when you brave a stomp the bone crusher doesn't even go on an adventure, it just goes to grave! I think because it didn't have valid targets? Idrk, I just learned the interaction when I was playing monowhite Vs monored online
Wouldn't G3 reckless rage trigger bonecrusher?
He targets the soul scar mage :)
Didn't target Bonecrusher, he targeted soul-scar which was buffed by prowess
ebic!
I believe in the 'Cleave
Isn't it Sòfia? and not Sofìa?
No. But apparently it's София in Bulgarian ;)
@@CardmarketMagic i've been lied to my whole life apparently, by every news agent - also tell thoralf he's the best (no offense to everybody else).
Actually, after checking, it is pronounced Sòfia with the accent on the o and not the i. I've been lied to by cardmarket!!!
Is it you Jamin?
Who is the best bluffer there?
@@Drestlin I mean, I could be wrong, I just did some cursory googling, but it seemed rather conclusive. But I'll definitely let Thoralf know he's the best 😃
@@CardmarketMagic i shamelessly checked the "how to pronounce" on wikipedia 😂 not that it matters tbh, i wasn't expecting an answer 😅.
Keep up the videos!
you could try your hands at a cube draft, or a gauntlet (everybody shows up with a couple of decks and then you roll for which one you actually play) and make it a serie :)
p.s. when will technology let me search for more than 100 cards on the shopping wizard 😢
@@Drestlin we actually have a whole team working on revamping the website for the last year! The shopping wizard will be so smooth in 2023 😃
I hate both these decks, and I love both these players.
German Channel?
Yes 👍 Cardmarket is based in Berlin 🇩🇪
@@CardmarketMagic Genial, ich gönne euch das von Herzen Jungs!!
Overall auch top content und nichts uninteressantes. Wenn Ihr mal in NRW seid, lade ich euch gerne auf ein Essen und ein Match ein 💪
The white deck is clearly favourable. It has so much removal and lifegain. Two things that are often the downfall for red aggro.
This red deck is very strange
:)
Haven't seen the video, just came here to point out how racist "Mono White Humans" sounds lmao
Was that edit mistake or something wrong with listing on Card Market, since Arne's deck's price on Card Market was listed over two times higher than Online Average?
It was, I swapped the TCG player price with the Cardmarket price by mistake 😬 but only noticed it right before the video came out
@@CardmarketMagic cool beans 😎, otherwise it would be weird to show off higher price on sponsored platform 😂
