back when my gramps was still alive, he said "The best place to live is where you came from." nowadays i dont believe that anymore. ive had so many misfortunes and bad luck in my hometown it begs the question of WHY i should stay here, especially when theres no future here. best place to live my ass

How doesn’t this have more views?!? An amazing talk! I just moved cross country and to be honest, it hasn’t been easy. This has helped settle my spirit. Thank you

This is a hard one because for me our family moved to down south while I was in college. Technically I did not move back "home" to Chicago. And I was successful professionally , but socially not so much.

Very insightful. Watched this because I will be moving out hours from now to a different city and I kinda feel nervous, sad, lonely, etc. I'm not really used to being alone and guess I'm on my own now. Thank you for this.

I didn’t move away from my home town until I was 28. College didn’t push my move, I just always wanted to and finally did it. I stayed in AZ for 5 years, then went to NC… I have major commitment issues because I never see these places as long term. I’m 36 now, I miss my family, I know that time with my parents is limited. I’ll probably move back to STL next year because family is important. It made my relationships within my family stronger. I know so many people in my home town that have moved back home after college. Life is short. Time with family is precious. It’s really hard though because Missouri doesn’t really fit who I am haha I’m more AZ, west coast vibe. 😂

@@j-sway2969 I love Arizona! Currently in Wilmington NC and I personally prefer Phoenix/ Scottsdale, just more things to do. BUT every place is what you make of it and really depends on your hobbies. If you hate hot summers I wouldn’t go there. I’m always cold so it did not bother me.

Interesting discussion. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. Graduated Penn State main campus in 1967 and 5 years later, came to Seattle, WA and despite a few short returns back east, I have pretty much remained in Western Washington State ever since. I think about my big move all the tine, but I have never regretted it.

Trying to convince my mom to leave our hometown! Nothing there and I don't want to feel obligated to a place just because I was born there! My mom is miserable there but for some reason she can't let go of her hometown!!!

Welp! It cost us! To move away, miss out on low interest rates and housing prices that were $100-$150k less… but we also made some while away which will help us get back into our desired area.
I think I would prefer to preserve a home base in my hometown while I explore living in other areas for months at a time. What’s difficult is when parents start to get old and living far away keeps you from visiting as often and watching them grow old.
My partner and I, natives of our hometown, moved out of state for 2 years and then we started to talk about our aging parents (his is already having serious health issues). I just knew one of us or both might regret not being there with our parents to enjoy them more before that’s not an option anymore, so we moved back home.
