Thank you for your vids! My personal advice to new Pagans is to not be too fast to sign up to anything. Follow your heart and explore the old religions of the world. While I'm from Scandinavia, I've always been more drawn to Mediterranean and Middle Eastern paganism, or even Celtic faith... Have been Pagan for almost as long as I can remember and I'm still learning new secrets every day! Refuse to be a cliché and refuse to believe as anyone tells you - including me. What's important is what Paganism means to you - and it could be a long and exciting journey to find that out!

I have a kind of reverse preference, while I'm from Greece I'm not drawn to ancient greek religion and mythology but more from Celtic and native American culture (for the second I believe that someone must at least live in Americas if not being an indigenous person, so Celtic seems closer). All these are personal choices of course. :-)

Normally I don't comment but I feel like I want to share my experience and where I am now (spiritually speaking) with you because it feels so welcoming :) . So, growing up in Spain, as a Christian, it kind of felt weird. My parents didn't force me to believe in God (luckily) but in the end I saw that that wasn't my path. Still, it felt strange to me to call myself an atheist, so I didn't know where to stand, and I've always felt connected to nature.
Then I found this channel and all these people sharing their stories and it made me feel so excited about knowing more and starting my own path! Thank you Scarlett and everyone who may read this

Great information. I’m coming from being a Christian scholar and I’m having difficulty (as I was told I would) wrapping my mind around the pagan path. In my mind, I’m asking which path is true not which one fits around me better yet I realize that I may be still thinking like a Christian. This is meant as no offense at all - to me when things are presented in a way to suggest a priority of preference or style or convenience over whether something is true or not, it indicates these things are works of fiction to appease a mind confused by the ambiguity of reality. So it’ seems to be offered more as a medication or a band aid (you can have the Dora the explorer one or the Spider-Man one) then a truth (being in nature, exclusive) presented with conviction. I have been praying and giving offerings to Odin and Tyr and they have been the most powerful experiences I’ve had in a long time but I’m still learning and I’m aware at least mostly of how my mind is still functioning dogmatically. Thank you.

I think that ever worldview describes a different aspect of reality.
They contradict each other because every worldview misses some information, this causes the worldview to be partially false as a whole.

Not 💯% certain about my ancestry. Although, I've always been *very* drawn towards the Ancient Greek Gods. Over time I studied more and more about it's Mythology, Hellenism and overall general principalities... It really resonates with me spiritually, mentally and emotionally. It just felt right, and still does. Of course, I also incorporate aspects from other Pagan branches as well. Borrowing elements that work for me from Norse, Egyptian, Celtic and Mesopotamian.

Norse Pagan/Polytheist here. The reason why the information isn't just there for people to glean is simply that we don't know exactly what the ancient Norse pagan people did because it wasn't written down. The saga literature isn't historical, it's moreover literature to entertain than it is detailing events. The primary source materials you mentioned were written much later, though many of the poems lead back to an ancient pagan past, there are simply things that are unknowable. This also applies to Celtic Paganism concerning the past, which has a lot more Christian influence within it. A lot of what is done now, no matter what you're following, simply has no basis in the past or anything to do with it. It's a modern conception built atop an inspiration of what we adore about the past, rather than a direct line of information. The other reason behind why we don't have books detailing in a practice is because a lot of that is forming right this moment. Because we lack any understanding of how or why the ancients did things, we have to come up with our own understanding of it and the gods. The biggest and most common misconception about paganism as a general is simply that it's not connected to the past, and if it is, it's only under vague circumstances. Anyway, just wanted to clarify the why and hopefully, it helps. If you're interested in understanding the historical aspects of Scandinavia/Norse, I recommend starting with the book Religions of the Viking Age by Debois. It explains a lot of concepts and historical stuffs that anyone who wishes to understand that area of the world should read.

I’m actually reading James O’Donnell’s book on pagans right now! Almost done. It was probably one of the first historical books about pagans I picked up. Even though I don’t carry a grudge against Christianity, it does seem a lot to me like the politicians and emperors back then played, the types of games back then after Constantine, although the decline of the empire started long before that I’m pretty sure.

But both sides are heavily catholic. I grew up catholic and in the past few years have drawn away from that. I considered myself agnostic for some time and recently discovered paganism. When trying to research it, a lot of it is heavily European. When searching for hispanic backgrounds, a lot of mesopaganism comes up but many say its a closed practice. So I don't know where to go from here. I tried wiccan as that doesn't seem to be based on your origin but I'm recently coming across a lot of people saying wiccan is appropriating closed practices and i don't resonate with the horned god. @@ScarletRavenswood Agreed, I hope RUclips boots him. It's ironic that he chose one the most gentle, kind and compassionate presenters to pick on, they always go after the good people.

I’ve been very drawn to the Ancient Greek deities, but it’s hard for me to find any information talking about the actual practice of the religion. Mainly the general mythology and storyline aspect

Search for Theoi rather than Greek gods. Also try searching for Hellenic paganism and Neos Alexandria. Amazon has some great books by Sarah Kate Istra Winter, aka Dver of forestdoor Wordpress.

Honestly, my problem with Wicca is that it's so left wing/ leaning.

Which is slightly surprising for a religion founded by a group of British upper middle-class people voting Conservative and nurturing attitudes against gay people typical for their time and environment. Certain things change as time goes by.

I'm so sick of politics in modern paganism.

It can be a problem with Paganism that some use it as an anti-establishment protest vehicle. As I am ethnocentric and revere my ancestors - those on my mother's side being amongst the first to inhabit Britain -, I adhere to Odinism.

@@oneeyedwilly8139 politics is in litterally everything, wiccans tend towards the progressive side mostly due to the fact that the religion itself is progressive. its reverance of the seasons and nature leads it to be left wing because of the rights ignoring climate change. it's religious tolerance leads it to the right due to the right wings religious moralism. I find pagans to be almost entirely of two groups: ethno-nationalists who use their ancestors religion as a form of justifying racism and xenophobia, and generally progressive people looking to salvage indigenous spirituality and appreciation for the world out from under the oppression of abrahamic beleif systems. theres obviously nuance, but I find the pagan community is pretty heavily polarized in both directions with very few people truly sitting in the center

@@oneringtorulethemagicarp7199 yeah I guess that's what I don't like about modern politics, both sides are heavily entrenched in their respective sides and fail to see the nuance. Pagans tend to be very extreme, far right or far left. Maybe that's what I am against. I think the separation by social issues and identity politics is psychotic and is how we are all played by elites. They keep us divided while they rob us all of our rights and quality of life. There are things in the social politics on both sides that bothers me. The racism in far right paganism is something that I am against, but on the other hand, the far left thinks everyone is racist who doesn't agree with them. I personally love my heritage and have ethnic pride, but also love the cultures of others and support healthy inclusion that happens organically, not forced, and not motivated by guilt. My own family is multi racial. I support a clean environment, and land conservation, but recognize the needs of the population to feed and house itself. I guess I am one of those uncommon pagan centrists.
