Too bad she gives zero sources and conflates things... Samhain is an Irish word... Cernunnos is a Gallic deity... the Irish would've had nothing to do with him. Homogenizing all Celtic cultures as if they were one is a massive issue in modern witchcraft/wicca.

    • @GinnyMetheral
      @GinnyMetheral  2 года назад +25

cernunnos is also in Cornish folklore, but called the bucca duh. Samhain was also used by the anglo saxons and pre Christians, it cannot be claimed solely by the Irish. This is how I have referred to all these points. As no one really knows what is what, because there is hardly anything written down by any of the cultures we can all only speculate.

@@GinnyMetheralI rebuke ANY and ALL witchcraft you ever try to preform in the name of Yeshua the Messiah.
Learn how there are no in between "spirits." "For satan himself can appear as an angel of the light." The greatest deceiver is satan and the fallen ones who follow him. ONLY Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, & the life!

For Samhain we put pictures of those who have departed us on our altar together with some of their favorite food. We decorate the altar with marigolds. We're Mexican so the altar is a combination of Halloween and Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead).

      Give it a rest.
Organized religion stole SO many of its own rituals and holidays from the early pagan and indigenous people in the countries they, hand in hand with governments, took over. Do some digging into world history, and make note of how people were conquered and political organizations used religious organizations to force the people to comply. Look at how many of so called "Christian" holidays were simply repackaged and moved to a nearby date in order to make the conquered and enslaved people think they were still worshipping their way, but now it had to be done in a manner that "pleased the church". And that if they didn't, there was going to be "consequences", both from God and the humans running the show.
Organized religion is simply a tool used to control the masses, AND to create further division amongst the people in order to cover up nefarious wrongdoings of leadership.
I spent more than three decades really believing what I was brainwashed into believing in the Christian church. As I grew older, began really reading the No or for myself, instead of just accepting and ingesting what I was being fed on Sunday and thru tv programs (program being a key word-- think about it), and began to give other world philosophies air time in my research, I learned an awful lot about Christianity and Catholicism. I learned that not everything is as "evil" as we were TAUGHT to believe. Notice we were TAUGHT. We weren't given options, we were told what to believe and how to behave. The irony being, it was ALL man made rules and regulations, being force-fed in order for the ruling class and church hierarchy to gain and amass wealth and power, and to keep the people subjugated under that power.
I've come away realizing that if anyone is "evil", it's those who cannot allow others to think for themselves, cannot accept that everyone is different, and everyone perceives and has a relationship with whomever/whatever they perceive to be in control of all of creation.
And that every human being has the right to choose how/what they believe-- within normal limits of course, such as the obvious cultural belief that it's wrong to harm others, murder, cheat, etc. Anyone alive should have that knowledge already in their heart and soul. Don't need a church or leader to tell you that.
Even the Bible was written by humans-- flaws ones, at that, as we all are. How can you believe that whatever message the authors of any religious script actually understood or correctly transcribed the message that whatever entity or being gave them, or that they didn't embellish it with their own opinions and experiences?
Within the limits of human decency, we should all be allowing one another to follow their own individual spiritual life and practice.
I also believe that it is highly pompous, disrespectful, and downright presumptuous to claim that one's own spiritual belief/journey/religion is the ONLY right one.
How preposterous and presumptuous that is!
Why not just follow what you believe is right and do what you believe your God/creator/spirit/universal being/own intuition is telling you is right for YOU, and stop telling others they are going to hell for theirs.
Awfully haughty of *anyone* to think that they have the ONLY way/connection to the higher source of all life.
Understanding the difference between "religion" and "spirituality" is what finally led me to leave organized religion and follow my inner knowing as to how to have a relationship with my Creator in my own way. Church leadership helped destroy my marriage, granted my ex license to do what he wanted to while I was to "obey" regardless, and nearly destroyed me.
I left. But I haven't left my Creator, nor has he left me. Nor will he.
This is why there is so much war and strife going on right now. Governments and religions are simply fighting for more control, more wealth, not even caring about the people they should be taking care of. In fact, the more divided and distracted the people are, all the better for those in power who truly ARE evil. They love it when we can't all just agree.
Leave people alone, you aren't "spreading the Word to the lost"-- you are condemning people who don't live or believe as you do. If you're uncomfortable with what non-Christians or anyone else is doing, allow them some grace, leave it up to the all powerful God you choose to follow (and you aren't him), and go pray for them. Read your Bible.
Don't go around preaching at people. That isn't what will "win them over" anyway. Go mind your business and stop "stumping for God". He doesn't need your help. He's capable without you.
Instead, why not pull out some of love and kindness and grace, and learn to accept that not everyone is like you, nor do they want to be, and just be fine with it.
      🎃❤

@pleasurepanda3285. That is a lovely tradition! I loved the first 40 years of my life in California, born and raised there, before coming to the Midwest. While I love it here too, I do miss a lot of the Hispanic culture and traditions I remember living out there. Dia de Los Muertos is one that I always thought was wonderful, honoring your ancestors, so much color and love and celebration.

@iamangela171 how shameful. There is nothing satanic about it. Your Bible says honor thy father and thy mother. What better way to honor them after they've died than to set a memorial for them with flowers each year?

Today is November 1st and I shared some food with my ancestors plus relatives last night. I opened a portal with my own speech so they could join and visit me. I knew they would be hungry after their travel from the spirit world to my physical realm. Then, just before midnight, with another personal speech, I respectfully closed the portal.
I found your video by accident or maybe it appeared because I had watched a documentary about the production of the 1973 movie Wicker Man.
One of my maternal ancestors was a Pict warrior. My mother had all the genealogical information about him and got it from someone researching the same line. I put off getting that information from her and sadly she passed away in October 2011.

Ginny, really love the history behind Samhain, and really what we grew up with here in the states, whether people acknowledge this or not. In a sense, we all have celebrated this in our youth as Halloween. This gives relevance to the changing of the seasons. I truly love the Autumnal Equinox. For me a reflection of past happening throughout the year. 🎃

It's funny to me, I always feel my energy returning to me this time of year. Spring and Summer are always very lethargic to me, I feel exhausted, but during Fall and Winter past Samhain I begin to feel at peace, warm, and more energetic and creative than I have during the rest of the year. I usually make soul cakes, but school has been particularly demanding this year so I probably won't do anything too demanding tonight. Last year my wife and I did a blot to Hel, and we do tarot readings for the following year each Samhain.

Now that my kids are older, I have no worries about getting them dressed up in costumes & trick-or-treating. So this year-I started a new tradition. we took ourselves to a very fancy dinner (seasonal restaurant) to indulge in our favorite gourmet flavors, this ensures abundance for the rest of the year. & than I go to the beauty store after dinner and treat myself to some NEW make-up. To ensure beauty and vitality for the coming year as well ✨🫶🏽 it’s quit shallow😅 but somehow felt powerful this year. I needed to treat myself🎉

When you lifted the wax left in the water in the dish, , I saw an angel as clear as day! So your year should be filled with angelic and protected living and all will be watched over. Thank you for all of your teaching and it was most interesting and worth trying some, at least, of he many ideas given! . May your Samhain be ever so light and very spritual in your experience and may your angel keep you protected, as we grow closer to the veil that is ever thin!.

Thank you for sharing! I found this vid quite informative. I'm still developing my own practices and traditions, which I'm sure over time will change and shift as I grow. I'm slowing developing my celebration into a 3-day event (I do the same with Mabon), and because I live in the US and have Native American and African American ancestry, I like to incorporate different elements that honors those cultures as well (because frankly, I believe we're all connected).
I try to cook something big on Samhain itself, like a stew that will last the 3 days. I also try to fill each day with something fun, educational and frightening. Of course, there's also meditation & divination.

Today is Samhain 2024. I put out bits of bread with cottage cheese and honey on it for the spirits and ancestors. I put these offerings in the different directions. I then did a whatever came out of my mouth singing. Sometime it was just no words singing and other times it was words I understood. I’m getting ready to visit the underworld through meditation. I want to see my mother and my fiancé. I usually see them along with my brother that died before I was born and my niece. I’m hoping to write my wishes on a leaf and send it out into the wind. Adding some information. I always use a Turnip instead of a Pumpkin. I think the pumpkin is an imported cultural idea. I come from an eclectic background... Scots/Irish.Manx/French./ Indian. I was taught it to be called a 'Neap Lantern" by my Scots Dad. (I revert back to the original spellings of Beltane as well) I also buy a small miniature bottle of Scotch Whiskey to poor on the ground beneath where I will hang the 'Neap Lantern' An.offering to the Cailleach .. ''The Land Spirit of Winter '..( Controversial comment on its own ) The Fae in Scottish folklore have both an Upper and lower Seelie court of Fae.t. So I wouldn't cast out the Upper court Fae.

I am new to witchcraft and want to practice as authentically as possible. As a seasoned witch, do you think it matters whether you celebrate samhain on the accepted date of Halloween or is there something powerful about the actual midpoint between the fall equinox and the winter solstice, which according to astrological observations actually lands on the 7th of November.

    • @GinnyMetheral
      @GinnyMetheral  2 года назад +14

There is no 'set' date for me in halloween, our ancients held it often as a three day affair, so I think that you should go with whatever feels right for you, and I like the idea of the equidistant 7th November

I grew up in Scotland in the 1990s and went 'guising aka disguising now known worldwide as trick or treat.
We had to preform for treats, a song, poem, dance. The most common treats we would receive was:
    Apples 🍎
    Raisins 🍇
    Mandarins 🍊
    Nuts (especially monkey nuts) 🥜
    Chocolate 🍫
    Baked goods 🍰
    Toys 🧸
    Children's books 📖
    Coins 🪙
I think these treats of fruit and nuts reflect the fact it is fundamentally a harvest festival. Households were mostly farms and this would be the last harvest before winter starts so the treats would come off the harvest table which would be fruit, meat, nuts ECT....

Halloween is almost 20,000 years. There was some sort of Astrological event in our solar system. Originating from the Taurid asteroid system (the same system which was rumoured to be the source of the Tunguska event 1908). This was such a mystifying event that many ancient cultures all across the world, from the the Celtic ans other pagans of Europe, to the maya of south America, and sumarians, and even ancient Egypt not only attributed this taurid system to that of the Bull or “White Bull” but also link it to the Pledies system. And all celebrated very similar harvest/fall/halloween celebrations

I’d love to see a video on how to use mirrors (and not just black ones) for divination. I’ve been practicing for 20 years but the only form of divination I’ve ever been drawn to or talented with is using a pendulum. I am terrible at reading shapes and whatnot. I was given a little makeup mirror by my mom the other day and I’d love to know how to use it magically on the go. I’ve read washing the mirror in an infusion of mugwort and water helps but i thought I’d give a suggestion on a video I’m sure u know loads about! Thank u for this gem of a chat :) I love each video.

I don't know where you grew up but we did mischief night (mischievous night) the night before bonfire night in North Lincolnshire (that would be the 4th November if you don't know), many places in the North of England celebrated it on this night. Although it's dying out now.

Maybe I can help you a little with your pumpkin soup... it looked a bit thick and chunky; you really want to puree it silky smooth. thin it with chicken stock and cream, seasoned with sage, thyme and nutmeg its delicious. I garnish with toasted garlic croutons and thin scallion slices.

Such a charming folkloric rituals presentation, you have a very beautiful voice Madam, and the stories you told and in the way you did it, I can't help but ask myself if you are a Lilithist from the circle of UK, or "sister into Lilith" as I think the UK circle call it, I prefer the continental way Lilithist simple and clear.

    • @GinnyMetheral
      @GinnyMetheral  2 года назад +1

Thank you kindly! No I am not a lilithist, but I do like some of their ways

@@GinnyMetheral I could have swear that there is connection, I don't know why, I just feel this things in a strange type of way, I'm at the 4 generation of Lilithism in my family and my mother always say that I'm like a radar for Lilithists that is like I see their energy, when I was little and went on holidays with my parents, often we were sitting at the table in the restaurant and suddenly I was telling my mother "look mommy that lady over there is one of us", she was always amazed, but I think is just because I grow up between them, I now how a free and powerful woman look and speak like, and more recently I noticed that I also quickly identify men raised in Lilithism, but that also not quite difficult, I don't like men that way, but it's hard not to realize that the gallant man who inclines his head in respect when he meets a new woman it is the son of a Lilithist. Anyway, I'm glad you "flirt" with the Lilithism, because evidently you are a powerful woman and after all, that's what Lilithism is about give the daughters of Goddess the power which was stolen for them.

Wow i love how this channel is all about old traditions, cultures and mysteriously aesthetic. Honestly, I grew bored of the the new age witchcraft-spirituality and how capitalistic and influencer culture type it became. But I love this kind of cozy, old school kind of witchcraft. Thanks will subscribe
