10 years ago. Damn. I was 14 years old, my mom was a drug addict and had just gotten arrested in a car chase with the cops. I was an angry confused kid back then. My grandparents kicked me out after I stopped going to high school. I sold a good amount of weed and acid to the kids at school to make my money. Spent my days smoking and drinking, crashing at friends houses and sleeping at parks. This song always made me feel sad, yet hopeful in a way. Funny music
Crazy how similar our stories are, my parents were heroin addicts, died from overdoses when I was 14. I was put into Forster care with my grandmother, dropped out of school at 15 to work full time, sold weed and x to the kids from school and struggled with addiction for years. I’m 28 and a mechanical engineer now.
My best friend sang this to his girlfriend on their 3 yr anniversary, then he got down on one knee and proposed. Of course, she said yes. I swear to God it was the sweetest thing I'd ever seen.
This is one of the songs I play for my kid. Hes still in her belly but he just developed ears and music is a necessity just like his daddy =) And I think with peaceful music like this that hes going to develop a good brain and a peaceful attitude.
I can't help myself when listening to this. I feel so in love, yet so alone every time I hear this piece. One of the few songs in the world that has literally brought a tear to my eyes. Likewise for Prophet In Plain Clothes and Cowardice. This makes me feel human somehow. Thank you guys.
i literally started listening to defeater a week ago, this band, la dispute, and touche amore have drastically changed my perspective on life...this song is amazing :)
I'm going to learn this and play it to my girlfriend! It makes me think of her. Wish me luck. P.S. Defeater are one of the best bands ever, so much feeling and passion in every song they've ever done. They give me chills.
Sounds corny but I remember listening to this in 2011, playing it on loop out of my shitty laptop speakers while daydreaming about high school crushes. Now this is going to be one of my wedding songs this June. Life comes fast.
This seems to be a very tender song to people, fairly automatically. It’s one of those songs. I love it for that. It hits. I was 18, moved to New Jersey to play music in New York City. The dream. I played this song by defeater “I don’t mind” on the sidewalks for money. For breakfast, for train fare back, but mainly and above all, for the people. I didn’t play it thinking about a relationship. I played it for New York City and the people who happened to be walking by as I played this song, cross legged on the sidewalk. I was so ambitious and I go back to this song to remember that time. Thank you Defeater and all of you in the comments who feel what I felt with this song. 💙💙
New album is amazing. Defeater isn't just a Hardcore band, they are storytellers and the last four songs on the album are nothing short of magnificent.
i know this isnt gonna really impact people but I love this song and I miss my grandfather, my grandfather was a combat medic. although he didnt pass away in battle and while he had wonderful life it wasnt always great for him. He would always tell me about his childhood and I sware to god all his childhood stories sounded like a defeater album, although he had overcome his odds. Id always remember he would tell me and my cousins to work hard, I am very privileged because of him. I have so many experiences i will always remember and cherish. he was a really good guy. So when I here this song and this song by adtr called another song about the weekend (specifically the acoustic version). I cry (like I bawl and become really manic) and remember him and my grandmother. Its not a bad cry though. It never is. I wish I could have said goodbye in that summer of 2015. I was really depressed and I'm sorry. I hope to see them once again if there is a afterlife. I know a lot of these comments are short but I just wanted to post something here to remember them everytime I come here. I love you Mary Catherine and George Frank. I love you. See you some day. Rest in peace
I walked down the aisle to this song last year. I met my husband at the end right at the line "I'd very much like to get married, maybe have kids and move away." We had been together for just over 3 years when we got married.
This is the most beautiful song. God, I want a love to last this long. I hear three years, and I think to myself "Wow, I'm 19... Where is my long-lasting relationship full of endless love?" Then I remember to stay patient, because everyone has their time. I just hope mine is now, for once. That what I'm believing in is finally true. I'm only human, but I swear I can be the love she's always waited for.
This song makes me think of my ex a lot, but not in a bad way, we tried our best it didnt work out sadly, spent one last day together, cried most of the day, but before we got into a relationship I rememeber her by this song, and she rememebers me for it too, makes me so happy to say we tried if circumstances were different maybe she'd still be by my side, songs that touch your heart are the best.
I caught the end of these guys' set at warped tour today, i couldnt find the song they played that i really liked but ive listened to a couple tracks off this album and i love it.
Can't believe I've wasted so many years of my life listening to hip hop. This is the kind of music that really moves you, that you really feel. Damnit, I wouldn't be able to live nowadays without music like this
This is the most relevant and meaningful RUclips comment that I have ever read. Turning 20 tomorrow and when I meet her, she will be the goddess she never knew that she was. Oh how I love being sappy. :)
Thats such a sad yet happy story, thats much deeper than mine, mine was a matter of only 7 months and I'm just a 17 year old kid, but its just songs like this that make you think what the future can hold with that one person which attracts me to the idea of a long term relationship and why I crave it. I don't mean to invade on your personal life, but you would love to have her by your side again wouldn't you?
It's so sad to see bands like this being wasted on people who can't comprehend how intelligent the music they write is. Every song they write manages to impress me, i can't wait for another album.
I actually like the part after 3:47.. It gives me time to think about what he just said and how that relates to my life. Because it does. Beautifull song.
the album is a whole story... and a very sad one, but its a very interesting combination of music and storytelling, so if you dont mind try reading the lyrics of all songs in the album and you will undesrstand;)
i didnt know who these guys were until i flew in with them from australia into hawaii last night.. i saw them carrying boxes of cds and wrote down the name of this album.. now im here figuring out who i just seen several hours ago.. how randomly ive come across a pretty damn good track
This is some good stuff, came across it listening to weezer lol, bridge nine i'm very familiar with i have several hardcore/metal albums from them, but this is a masterpiece I like a song immediately 9.9/10x so this sis something special, the whole ep is justamazing
ever since i've heard this song i thinked to myself that i would dedicated this one only to the one who make me feel she is the right one, sadly it's been like more than ten years and still didn't find that one but still with the same idea.
i was just listening to my itunes on shuffle and fuck... this is so beautiful. before i go to sleep tonight im going to finally listen to this album all the way through. :)
Isn't that basically the point of music of this style? To find your own reason for liking it and trying to relate to the emotion being expressed in the Lyrics/Music.
Thia song kind of hits me because it reminds me of being a gentleman. I am, and it has gotten me hurt in pathetic excuses of relationships, because for some reason the nice guy always gets fucked over. But songs like these also remind me that it isn't me. I just have to remember that there are women out there instead of girls who can't appreciate a nice guy.
Nice, it's been officially 9 years since I start to cry whenever I listen to this song
Yep
Me too

Love you guys! I hope you all are doing alright now! We’re in this together mates
Same.
This, then headstone right after.
i literally started listening to defeater a week ago, this band, la dispute, and touche amore have drastically changed my perspective on life...this song is amazing :)
time accelerates
How does this song still not have 1 million views? It’s so good
This has literally been my favourite song for 4 consecutive months.
hope it still is! :)
Hope it still is.
Just wanna sit down with the person I’m in love with under the moon and stars and listen to love songs, man
I'm going to learn this and play it to my girlfriend! It makes me think of her. Wish me luck.
P.S. Defeater are one of the best bands ever, so much feeling and passion in every song they've ever done. They give me chills.

Good god, after listening to all of Empty Days, and coming back and listening to this I feel like crying. Such an amazing story.
New album is amazing. Defeater isn't just a Hardcore band, they are storytellers and the last four songs on the album are nothing short of magnificent.
This world should really make room for more people like you, sir.
Glad to see that these dudes are getting the recognition they deserve.
I haven't listened to this song in so long. god. what a distant memory it all is.
I used to listen to this song back in 2014, when I was 14, now I'm 21 and after many years I finally found again the name of this amazing song
this is the first song i've heard by Defeater.
i'm in love already

Waited nearly 19 years for my love and it was worth every minute!
I remember when this came out i was about 15 😅 crazy to look back at uow much times gone by
If I'm ever lucky enough to get married I'm dancing with my wife to this song
I walked down the aisle to this song last year. I met my husband at the end right at the line "I'd very much like to get married, maybe have kids and move away." We had been together for just over 3 years when we got married.
I’m walking down the aisle to this song next week at my wedding, wish me luck ❤
Kinda ominous
that song is the most tragic of all the beautiful things. and i mean it
This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard.

i cant help but lean my head back close my eyes and feel happiness run into deep into my soul
i want to cry because of how beautiful this is. i want to cry because i don't have what's in these lyrics anymore. one day.
These words will make up some of my wedding vows.
Such delightfully pure lyrics.
If you are still here. Did they?
Glad to see such an amazing song, and band, get more recognition.
I caught the end of these guys' set at warped tour today, i couldnt find the song they played that i really liked but ive listened to a couple tracks off this album and i love it.
how could someone dislike this, that's evil...
Can't believe I've wasted so many years of my life listening to hip hop. This is the kind of music that really moves you, that you really feel. Damnit, I wouldn't be able to live nowadays without music like this
This just shows how versatile Defeater as a band.
This song makes me nostalgic for everyone we once had.
one of the best bands out there
