The G4 Ti was hugely important. Apples first try with titanium.. which was crazy at the time. They had to go into the release dark.. not knowing if it was gonna blow up in their face (it did) and that takes guts. And I know two people who bought them, full price, and both ended up having hinge breaks. Both still say it was the most exciting computer they ever bought. They were brittle.. if you kept them in a climate controlled area on a desk, they’d still break. It wasn’t bad matierials or build.. it was a first try with a super alloy. I think it took balls. Also.. does anyone remember how Dell 100% copied this exact look but made with shitty plastic? All while making fun of apple lol.
My mom knows somebody at apple design, everybody thought apple wasn't going to do something special with the 20th birthday of this design, the powerbook g4 titanium! I have one, and i have the M1 Pro MacBook Pro and yeah, they look alike, you can see the roots. This machine was a design disaster, but i heard that the g4 would come back, sort of, and he was right! And because of this, i really wanted a M1 pro! Nice vid man!
The TiBooks as I called them had many design flaws but was one of my favourite Mac laptops. Serviced couple dozen of them as Mac technician back in early 2000s. Installing replacement display and logic board was a nightmare. Compared to Powerbook G3 which it replaced I thought the design was great when it first launched. All in all, wish i held on the 1GHz version I had as keepsake.
I've got a last-model 1GHz TiBook in very good condition. Definitely a fun relic to still have. Unfortunately the PRAM battery and replacement batteries are near impossible to come by, unlike the later Aluminum PowerBooks.

The Titanium coloring / coating process on the body of this titanium Powerbook was the problem with scratching. Not necessarily that the titanium is more susceptible to scratches (although, I believe they did use a lower grade titanium than they do today). Aluminum is a very versatile material, and the anodization process is very strong compared to what they were doing with the titanium on the Powerbooks. Apple uses a much better process on their titanium products today, but I still think I'm aluminum is the superior material, when all things are considered. (though, titanium does have a superior weight to strength ratio). As far as the fragility, that's because they used titanium sheets on a magnesium alloy inner frame, with some plastic parts here and there. If they had machined it out of a single block of titanium, like they did on the later unibody aluminum laptop, it probably would've held up a lot better. They were years away from that process, though, as the first few generations of aluminum laptops didn't offer the single block of machined material.

Yet it always get’s overshadowed by the shoddily designed Titanium model.
I don't know about you, but the look of black painted metal where it's been worn away look sick. I would absolutely love to see that more on devices.

@@frokfrdk I was able to watch RUclips quite smoothly after upgrading the ram and Mac Os X but I never installed Linux on this particular machine.
If I were to run Linux I would probably do it on my 17" PowerBook G4 as the battery of it works and it's got better specs (and larger screen)
