I was saddened when i heard this info. I pray for his wife and family, and pray he will repent and be restored to the family.
I suggest that you pray for elders of the Trinity Bible Church for not following the biblical script in how to handle grave failings of pastors. God commands that grave moral failings of pastors to be publicly announced to the church, so the church will know FEAR (1 Tim. 5:20). God commanded this because he loves the church and he does not others to fail. "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom".

There is a silver lining in this situation. Christians everywhere are being reminded of how good Satan is at his job and are making adjustments in their own lives to help avoid sinful situations. I know I am.
Absolutely dude. This has been going on for 5 years, apparently, and even then Satan convinced him not to come forth until he was forced to by the girls Father. If David could fall into sexual immorality I know I can. Still, I was shocked this had gone on so long. You expect it from teachers with terrible theology and an unfruitful worldly ministry. The elite of the Protestant teachers need to mandate that they are in a men's accountability group with their Elders! Indeed all of God's Ministers need to do the same!
But who can we trust in the pulpit, even you Mr Mobley, or any other pastor, teacher or teachers. Yes forgiveness can come but the fallout on his family,his church and his wider ministry is so very devastating, the wound so very deep. We are left thinking who is next. Mr Lawson seemed so godly….the Bible narrative telling the stories of fallen heroes and the wide consequences of their fall is not there to excuse sin but as a warning to all. Even forgiven sin leaves consequences that can be felt for generations.

One of us has fallen, enemy has taken one of us by his snare, we are not to leave him behind. We carry him on our shoulders to be cured, mended and get ready to fight again alongside us.
No one is perfect and immune to temptation and sin, we all need god’s grace and need it abundantly every single second of our lives to survive temptation and sin.

My heart goes out to Lawson's wife and family. I hope he comes to full repentance and maybe his stepping down is part of that. Just truly sad and tragic but no one is above this.
Who brought this "disaster upon the Church and this ministry" ? He or God? ( who decreed everything to happen) Was this something God planned "before the Creation of the World"? Lawson hid this adultery relationship for five years. He was teaching and preaching to the church and peers. Was he really saved at all? And if not, could God can use a unsaved person to save teach, preach and equip christian leaders? Why nobody did sense that with the help of the Holy Spirit? Was he a wolf in pastor clothes? As calvinists many have to answer those questions.

The root of this kind of sin seems to be the pride that comes from the "celebrity" pastor status. These big name pastors and preachers get propped up by the church - they enjoy fame and money. Pride comes before the fall. Might we stop making celebrities out of ministers.

This is why James said not many should be teachers. God will not excuse sin no matter the circumstance. If this had been a one time thing, I would heavily be at bat for him but this is ridiculous. And the fact that he came forward because he had too, is the "He's only sorry because he got caught," kind of thing. I really loved his preaching, and if he had failed once and came forward willingly without being caught, I would 100% believe him. But now, I'm not sure we can trust even his public repentance. He lied to our faces for 5 years.
This was a good word from Dr. Mohler
He should have mentioned that 1Cor10:13 was a promise for every Elect who truly Loves Christ and His Word. Or even mentioned that brilliance, or vast knowledge of the Bible is not an evidence of an Elect (A person who Loves Christ and His Word).

Dear brothers and sisters, can I ask a question? Is there anybody else out there who feels that many of the comments made on issues like this … are really just gossip? I think we might need to take a step back and ask God to help us to avoid the sin of gossip before we post our comments. Something to think about.

AM gave answers to two question I had - thank you. For the rest its a man that transgressed, sinnned - its not a horror or catastrophe & he is not perfect either. He will be forgiven by God - why not the congregation? The latters decision may cost them more ultimately.

Not really. I was originally led tp believe he was sleeping with her. Now i find out it was some kind of emotional affair. Not good, but far less than a physical affair.
Even knowing it was an "innapropriate relationship". What does this mean? Was it a tad grey, or was he sending her dick pics through text?
He confessed because of her fathers threats to expose him...Does he really believe his relationship crossed the line or did he bring it to the attention of the elders because he was trying to get ahead of it all?
There are way too many unanswered questions at this point for me to get all dramatic and go scorched earth on him.

@dkjazzz Again. This is just speculation. Did he meet her 5 years ago for the first time? Is "5 years" the length of the emotional affair? Were there texts? If so, what were the nature of them? How often, if ever, did they see each other?
He's in his 70s. Is he even capable of having sex? How did the father come to know? Did his daughter go to him? Did he catch them together? Did he see the texts?
Did Steve Lawson confess the relationship was romantic or inappropriate, or is he defending himself.
I want answers before going scorched earth.

I understand your concern about the Perseverance of the Saints and how it may seem like a theory that flies in the face of the reality of the Christian life. However, it is crucial to remember that the doctrine is not based on what seems practical on the surface, but on what Scripture teaches.
The Perseverance of the Saints does not mean that a believer will not fail or struggle with sin. Rather, it means that, by the grace of God, those who are truly born again and regenerated by the Holy Spirit will not lose their salvation. This perseverance is not dependent on the believer's strength, but on the power of God that guards his faith. Philippians 1:6 assures us, "He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion at the day of Jesus Christ."
Here are some points to consider:
1 - God's Sovereignty in Salvation: The emphasis is on God sustaining the believer to the end. Romans 8:38-39 says that nothing can separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus, implying that those who are in Christ are safe under His love and power.
2 - The Reality of the Struggle: Perseverance of the Saints does not deny that believers may go through times of doubt, sin, and even seem to have strayed. What it does ensure is that, in the end, God restores His children and leads them back to Him. As we see in 1 John 2:19, those who completely fall away prove that they were never truly believers.
3 - The Practicality and Process: On a practical level, many believers struggle with sin, but God continues to work in their hearts. Perseverance is seen in those who, despite their falls, are restored and continue to grow in holiness. Hebrews 12:2 calls Jesus the “author and finisher of our faith,” giving us confidence that He will complete what He began.

It took Adam and eve out of the garden of Eden, away from God's presence and their walk and talk with God every day. And you tell me that sin is not a catastrophe! Because of the sin of Adam and Eve we live in a broken, lonely, messed up world where even pastors fail to keep the faith and you tell me that sin is not a catastrophe? It is because of catastrophe that God send his son. I cannot imagine what my Saviour Jesus had to go through to pay for our sins (the catastrophe we create everyday) and you tell me that sin (a pastor committing adultory is not a catastrophe?) If sin is not catastrophic then why does the Bible tell us that God hates sin? It separates from God. Their are a lot of texts in the Bible that God hates sin. Why? For us to get it in our small brain that when we are sinning we are dishonering God, we put enmity between us and God and we deserve to be thrown in hell. We tend to minimize our sins, and we do not think of God's honour. In the old testament it was a sin to touch the Ark of the covenant Touching the ark was in direct violation of God’s law and was to result in death. This was a means of preserving the sense of God’s holiness and the fear of drawing near to Him without appropriate preparation. However in 1 Chronicles 13:9-12 we read that as the ark was being transported, the oxen pulling the cart stumbled, and a man named Uzzah took hold of the ark. God’s anger burned against Uzzah and He struck him down and he died.
Uzzah went against the law of God and He was struck dead. We should never think that we can sin an d say "I can do this, God will understand". No!. This sad story about Steve Lawson have taught me something:
1. That when you become so spiritually pride due to things you have achieved such as knowledge of the Bible, writing books, preaching here and there, teaching students, can lead to think of oneself as the "cat's whiskers". It can fill you with such pride that you forget God for your eyes are upon yourself how wonderful and great your are but you are not focused on God and to thank Him for everything you have achieved.
2. We have to look at our lives. What sin am I doing that displeases God that I should repent.
3. As we are all sinners we should never say "I will never do that" or "It will never happen to me". The moment we take our eyes of God, Satan steps in and devour us and we are capable to commit the worst sin.
May our Almighty triune God never leave us and protect us from the evil one. And let us put on the full armour of Christ to fight him every minute of the day.

this got me thinking about the women’s father who told the elders about the scandal sounded and my conscience tells me this scandal needs to be addressed by Steve Lawson alone … I feel like the women’s father lied about it ….

@@SuPalabraEnMiVida yes we understand that but it could be a relationship which all people call a normal friendship relationship, now we don’t know what the women’s father want he could be just making it up it ite true we would want to see him do an interview….
