All his portraits and landscapes are stunning. No doubt he had the talent to differentiate the textiles, and make emphasis on all details that make the clothing so special according to the sitter.

There is no detail in Sargent's paintings. There is the illusion of solid form and brilliant colour, rendered with scintillating brushstrokes. Sargent learned to paint in Carolus Duran's atelier, and there he was taught to ignore details.
