- It has officially been 6 months since we bought the IKEA Soderhamn Couch!! Today I am sharing my full thoughts after having lived with it. I share with you all about washing it, how it is holding up, ease of use, and comfortability. I am letting you know every thing I can think of and if it is worth your money to buy this couch. I have this couch and wash the covers in 60 deg and tumble dry them ( many times ) they still all look great and i bought it secondhand too.. not a squishy couch but so comfy .

we are about the same height so for me that was very useful. I also have a furbaby so it was nice to see yours walking across on the WHITE option I am not so brave and will choose the grey the cleaning was interesting as I did know they could be detached.

Thank you for this great video! It is so informative. What about your cats, do they like to damage the fabric?
They have snagged a couple of spots, but I can pull the snags back through using a needle, so no biggie. After a year and a half it still looks brand new! Thanks for watching!! 💕
If you have to dry them inside, for whatever reason, hang them on a shower rod put a fan on them full blast. Make sure your bathroom exhaust fan is on so there is someplace for the water vapors to go instead of making mold grow in your shower or whatever...
Hi I watched your video it was very clean and point to point information which I liked very great.... I just want to ask about strength or build quality of this couch how would you tell about this point??
Humbly request that please reply as soon as possible bcz I just think to purchase next 10 to 15 days....
By the way, this was really helpful because I didn't know you could take the cushions completely off the couch to wash them. I thought you had to take the entire cushion off to wash it in an industrial washer. I'm sold.

Thank you for this in-depth review.. I'm loving the style of the couch but am in two minds if this would be the best choice, especially with an elderly mother who is roughly your height and that has knee issues and finds it hard to get out of seats ..still I can't get over the style of it (for an ikea couch and in its price range).

If you have an IKEA near you it might be helpful to take her in to try it out. It does sit pretty low and I would be concerned about the depth of seats too. Although adding pillows does help with that aspect. Hoping you find the perfect couch for you!! 💕

You’ve probably already made up your mind. However with an older person this is the worst couch to get. You need one much higher which is easier for anyone to get out of. This is a young persons lounge. Not for the feint hearted. Not for the elderly!! Your relative will not be able to get out of this couch..!!
Chronicfish: you can buy taller legs - IKEA has a set that looks almost the same as original. Plus other companies make legs - Bemz, Comfort Works etc.
if u remove all pillows, even those for back support, its a decent bed too. That is on the plus side ofc
Yes! It is wide enough to sleep on very easily! Just make sure your hips are not on the edge of a seat. 😊
You could probably use a couple of Velcro straps underneath to connect.
You have it looking really nice with your scatter cushions. Did you end up getting a better ottoman?

I loved the idea of this couch and had it for almost a year..I got several different covers but that couch is so freaking uncomfortable for long term and watching movies. It's very hard..
It can be hard on the bottom! That’s why I like adding cushions to the back. We added down pillows and it makes it much more comfortable! Thanks for watching! 💕
Love your review because its so detailed. My only question is what color do you have? Is it finnsta white, because it looks a bit greyish and I think that color is discontinued.

Im thinking on getting this couch. Im 5 3 too. Single person. I would be laying down mostly. What about adding extra foam under the seat cushions? Great info. Thanks.
You could, but I don’t think the covers will hold a lot more cushion inside. You could maybe cut some to lay below the cushion. There are two zippers, one on the front and one on the back. But the middle is essentially open. You’d have to be careful not to compromise the zippers though.
What about the steaming process? Is it working?
I haven’t steamed it honestly. After washing the cushions it has looked perfect, and the wrinkles that come from use are not bad enough for me to mess with it. I usually just smooth it over with my hand. The wrinkles in the rest of the couch have more or less come out on their own. I’m sure steaming would work too, if you are looking for a crisper look. 😊
What's the name of the colour of the sofa?
Was there a section in the Sokerhamn collection that could roll out and become a single bed? It rolled out from the end.
Not that I know of, but I know ikea has some other models that do that.
Can you change the legs in Ikea ?

Do u think steam ironing the cushion/fabric would help get rid of the wrinkles?
Sure! I would be careful about using it until it dried though because it could stretch the fabric and make the wrinkles worse in the long run. Thanks for watching! 😊
Do the cats damage it while running over it? Like pull fabric strings out
They do snag it a bit. I cover it in my 3 year review and also how I fix it. The couch still looks basically brand new after 3 years. Just a disclaimer, my cats only have back claws.

I have seen this material in this color wrinkle. But the Söderhamn I have seen with the darf material seems not to wrinkle. I have the knee problem with our old couch. it is not deep enough to sit completly on it and not short enough vor me that the knees reach the edge. That is Why I bought this because I use the corner to sit completly on it which is most comfortable for me. I need my couch to chill and I like to really sit there with legs up. Visitors anyway have different hights so one couch will fit this person the other this person. Just add a second Pillow when you want to sit with your knees reaching the front
Which color do you have? I want one sooo bad cause the cushion covers come off and the fabric is thick. My curtain couch rips easy and pills so bad
I have the white couch. It’s more of a very light grey though. The fabric is very thick and is holding up well. It washes up nice too. I completely understand wanting/needing a new sofa and having to wait while searching! Hope you find something you love soon!

Id suggest, instead of investing in a brand new ottoman, looking to see if you can switch out the legs to something shorter!
I have thought about that, but if I’m being truthful it could be a good excuse to get a new coffee table. 😉 not that I will buy one soon, but I will consider it in the future. 💕
Great review. If the ottoman is working otherwise, just have the legs cut or get new ones. Bemz and ComfortWorks both make beautiful covers for Ikea furniture.
I thought about that, but if I’m honest it’s a good excuse to get a new table eventually. 😂😜

I saw a company that makes the covers out of a softer fabric for this model. I have a really really small living area, not sure if it would fit.
Yes! I have seen some of those! They turn out really pretty and you can get them with the skirt to cover the legs. Not sure about cost though. 😊
I would measure your space, but since the pieces come in sections you should be able to put a few of them together to fit your living room specifically. That is one of the things I like about it. If/when we move I should be able to make it work in some form or another by switching up the pieces and the arrangement.

We haven’t had any issues with scratching, but our cats don’t have front claws, only back ones. They are on the couch all the time, but it is holding up great. The only thing I have noticed is when they walk across the back of the couch, it is a very narrow back and sometimes they slip a bit. When they do they grab with their claws and there is a few snags because of it. Not really noticeable, but figured I would mention it. Hope this helps!

😂 my husband too! But it makes a difference being able to adjust them for comfort. We definitely get our use out of them. 😊
What is that color of the sofa ?
Well, in the Soderhamn line, the color white does NOT EXIST.
The color I have does not exist anymore. But it has been 3 years since I bought it. The closet thing now seems to be Gransel Natural.

The couch looks really uncomfortable like not very soft :/ I really just want a lounger for my office but I need something more plush maybe
It is more comfortable than it looks, but if you want something that you can sink more down into, I’d go with something else. There is a bit of give and cushion, but it’s not something that really “hugs” as you lay on it. I did end up getting different pillows for the back. They are large and down, so we are able to sink into the back now and it makes a big difference. Couch shopping is so hard! Hoping you find your perfect piece soon!! 😊

I got 24” down pillows from Amazon. I like the feel of down best because you can sort of sink into them. They help a lot!
The back pillows are sooo compakt that they hurt may upper back and neck. Do not recomend this couch😢
Yes, I can see how it would be uncomfortable without extra pillows. We’ve never used it without the added down cushions. It definitely takes it up a notch! Highly recommend adding some if you’re able. Thanks for watching! 💕
