    Well done man, getting that first big tube in there is a big moment in a build! I hope I'll have half as much luck in estimating bends in my old JD^2 bender when I have a go at doing this on the uh... outside, of my Subaru (exo cage) project.

      That's going to be crazy, definitely looking forward to seeing that and thanks, I was pretty surprised and happy with the fitment coming out decent on the first try.

    How much weight does the roll cage add? Looking like a real fun build can’t wait to see more videos.

      I'm not exactly sure, but probably around 200-300 pounds.

      In Australia, the tubing we use is 1.75" - 0.100" CDW / DOM for the Main hoop. And 1.5" - 0.100" CDW / DOM for all the other bars.
      The 1.75" material wieghs 2.6 Kg/M and the 1.5" material wieghs 2.2 Kg/M.
      A basic 6 point cage is gonna be somewhere around 40kg. Which is actually very little. If you go all out and get a mega cage, with all the extra option bars, its gonna be somewhere around 80-100kg. Which is about as much as an average adult male wieghs. So it would be like having an extra passenger in the car.
      To put that into context. On a Subaru, if you gut all the doors, you save about 5kg per door. If you do polycarbon windows, you can get another 15kg out of the car. Strip the interior and you can get about 100kg out. Strip the wiring loom and build a bare bones loom will save an extra 20kg. So you can relatively easily make up the wieght difference in alot of areas.

    Are you gonna do a skid pan, or do you really even have to because its all fairly flat grated dirt roads

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  6 лет назад

      I have an aluminum skid plate from primitive rally that I use, It's highly recommended to run a thick skid plate if you do stage rally. For RallyCross it's not as necessary, but still a good idea if the courses are rough

    I seem to not be able to find the FIA regulations anywhere. or anything I click on leads to something else. I bought a cage through Rhodes Race Cars (10 point) for my 04 sti. But I haven’t put it in. Now it’s states that it’s NHRA, IRHA meets their requirements. But I want to find the FIA standards for the metal and such. but with it being or meeting the requirements of those styles, one would think it could or should meet FIA.

      It needs to be 1.75” DOM mild steel or CDS and the bends and locations are very particular so I would check and see if it’s compliant with that. Custom cages sells an FIA weld in kit and so does broken motor sports, which I would recommend over the custom cages. Googling FIA 253 roll cage rules should show the complete rule book in the first couple of results.

    im planning to roll cage my gc8 as well. i have a few questions what size tubing are you using and what kind of material is it?

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  6 лет назад +1

      It’s 1.75 DOM with .095 wall. It’ll depend on what you’re building the cage for to what they require but for stage rally that’s what you need.

    What CLR Die did you purchase? 6.5" 5.5" ???? Thanks

    • @DirtyGarage
      @DirtyGarage  5 лет назад

      I went with the 5.5 to get the tightest radius out of the bends
