I work in a granite shop sandblasting, and yes I went through the same with the dust. I actually ended up settling with a liner lock on PB washers because it pushes the dust out of the way of the lockbar
DCA, Thomas & Seth…great work as always! I have a request. Can you incorporate an actual POCKET into your b-roll? Maybe a jeans pocket and slacks pocket? Sometimes holding the knife in your hand or draping the sheath over your fingers just isn’t enough. Thanks for your consideration.
I was wondering if you could do a blade-related camping needs guide before the season really takes it's start. Maybe a mix of tried and true, some axe suggestions for compact/otherwise and any other tool suggestions you'd have for the novice and the expert?
Hey, I'm turning 70 in about 6 weeks and I'm an Opinel fan to boot. Mostly carry 6s and 8s. Maybe my gift to myself should be that 13. Love those two gentlemen's knives. Boker!!! Cowboy knife, I'd think something more hunting-like. I have a KaBar 1237 I bought at about 13. Still have it. Stacked leather washer handle, brass guard, nice steel finger retention pommel, swoopy looking blade, embossed leather sheath. Not as useful fore camping as I thought it would be. Love Thomas' suggestion for the Condor Lost Roman. I want one.
If you get the Ekko, you can not only treat yourself to a very nice steak, you will also have a great steak knife on you. I love the budget version as an improvised small kitchen knife!
Hey D.C.A and Thomas I spray yards for a living. I am handling chemicals all day including powdered iron. I use all of a container of chemicals I rinse it out then cut three holes in it. I used a knife with s35 and it got stains on it. I need a folder with washers in the pivot and it has to be completely rust proof
Hey, KC crew! Lately I’ve been looking at knives with blasted scales. What are the pros and cons of the different blast materials? Thanks for all the great content!
Nice video! I hope you are feeling better. I have the knife too and I like it. I would only change the pull, making it stronger, and I'd make the spine come straight out from the handle.
So I want, and think many other people would too; a folding chisel tip knife with wave opening and tough enough blade steel for light prying with a full sized handle conducive to extended use and washers in the pivot. Basically a folding wave opening mora chisel tip. I don’t think this knife exists. I would love any suggestions you might have. But knowing that y’all do exclusives and dca is a knive designer I’d love even more my dream work knife to become a real thing. The ultimate blue collar working man’s knive!!!
@@entertheFinn Nice dude! Does Kizer make the Corgi? It's design has always appealed to me, and ugh the Banter is on my wishlist, I love it's simple no nonsense design.

Hi DCA (and Thomas)! I'm going to my sister's wedding in the end of June this year, and want to acquire a knife that fits the occasion. I was thinking something along the lines of a gentleman's/CEO knife. However, I live in a european country where knives are, to a degree, frowned upon. So it has to be inconspicuous and 'non-scary'. Blade length at or under 3" would work well, and it would be preferable if it's without large, bold markings/branding. Deep carry pocket clip would be nice, but not neccessary a must. I'm open to both more traditional and non-locking folders. Budget is $200. Thanks in advance!
Got a question for ya, DCA. I know Ocaso is a relatively new company, but I see Knife Center does indeed have a few of their models. I personally picked up a blue damascus solstice (which you guys don't have yet) and have been loving it, but I'm curious to know if you and yours have gotten enough hands-on time with Ocaso's knives and enough feedback from customers to develop an opinion on Ocaso as a company. If so, penny for your thoughts!
For the first question, I'd pick the Reate Knives Alvin Lee T6000 Button Frame Lock Flipper Knife 3.1" M390 Belt Satin Drop Point Blade, Bead Blasted Machined Titanium Handles, Zirconium Spacer. or the Microtech 121-11OR Ultratech AUTO OTF 3.46" Stonewashed Drop Point Combo Blade, Orange Aluminum Handles. Both of them would get a lot of attention, are completely bad*ss, and perfect for a midlife splurge. FYI, I now own over 400 fixed and folding knives since I started watching DCA in 2020 and he's inspired me to buy so many many knives.
Same! I have had the full sized CPM M4 Super Freek for about 2 years now and just L-O-V-E it! The M4 isn't nearly as hard to keep (wicked) sharp as I had been led to believe, either. I'm gonna be grabbing the S90V version this Holiday ❤
Hey DCA. Here is an interesting 5 knife challenge for you. I like Ring Knives. Unfortunately, most of these are Karambits. Nothing against hooked blades, they have their uses, but very limited in style and types. Can you do your 5 knife challenge where all knives have a ring component? You can put the ring anywhere in the knife like United Cutlery Ulu or Columbia River 9083. Gauntlet dropped (right next to the mic) will you pick it up?
Hey DCA, I’m looking at buying a a fixed blade knife for bushcraft in my area of Northern Canada. I know the common answer is a mora, but I’m looking for something a little more traditional with some traditional flair like a puukko. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!
Check out the Peltonen M07 if you don’t mind a “plastic” handle, or a Roselli Eräpuukko UHC if you want the real deal. I believe Joker also has a few good options.
Hey DCA! Thanks to your influence I've gotten into collecting knives, specifically USA made edc folders. I don't currently have any 'fun' knives, like the Rike Hummingbird or the CRKT Ritual. Can you recommend a fun USA made knife to add to the collection, ideally under $300.
Hey DCA, great stuff! Could you recommend something lightweight and somewhat compact I could use while running? I don’t want a neck knife or the Benchmade Bugout but I want something light I can throw in athletic shorts pockets.
For the gentleman looking for a cowboy style knife - check out the Gaucho knife category. Various companies make them at different price points, but for 100,- you should get a decent one.
Hey DCA, I'm fairly new to the knife world and i don't know that many good value knives or knife brands and was looking for some options. I'm looking for a premium feeling knife around the $100 - $250 mark though if its a bit over that's fine and, due to knife laws in my country, ideally it would have a blade under 3.35 inches. If you do answer this thank you very much and I love your content.
Hey DCA Gordon Holman here from Kodiak Edge Bladesmithing. How about a show all about classic folders around the world including Case and Buck here. I have watched you for many years so take care of us traditional folder junkies please thanks!!
I love the ria for a gentleman kinda knife. And of course you gotta go with one of the knife center exclusives. I have 2 a basic and a kc exclusive and they r my go to for gentleman carry if I'm not carrying a slip joint for that task.
Hi David: Blade length is often the focus when discussing folding knife size, but where the fifth pocket is concerned, it’s handle length that determines whether the knife disappears in that pocket. It seems that 3-inch handles are the threshold. What can you recommend that’s in that range of 3 inches closed, with a slim profile handle, like the Spyderco Ladybug or Case Peanut?
Hey DCA, you were so close on your most serious answer. So this could be a measured once cut twice (on a most serious) but an actual serious answer, not far from your "jokey" opinel No. 13 The Opinel grilling set.
I've never understood the "If I could only take one knife" concept. When I head out on an adventure, I take my Leatherman Surge, Victorinox Swiss Champ, Mora Garberg, Victorinox Swiss Classic Paring Knife, a folding filet knife and a small camp hatchet. What am I missing?

Hey DCA, A question from the far away land of India for you. My nephew will turn 18 next year so i need to get him a good knife (fixed or folding) that is an upgrade to the leatherman skeletool kbx I gave him some time back. Considerations: 1. Legality: No assisted opening knives as they are illegal in India. Also blade length should be less than 9", blade width less than 2". The smaller the better for an 18 year old, but something over 3" and maybe around the 3-4" blade length mark. 2. Budget: 50-100$ 3. Given the budget this might be tough, but preferably made in the USA, if not this is not a deal breaker. 4. Something with a full 4 finger grip. He's a big lad (6'3" which makes him a giant in India :O) The reason for my Batman level prep time is because I would prefer to buy it now, keep it in US with a friend and bring it back to India myself when i visit the states in a few months rather than going through the hassles of importing, during which some items never reach the buyer due to "safety concerns".
S90V is a great steel but for a special knife focusing on a super steel with edge retention feels a little lack luster. At that price range there is plenty in play.
DCA, you recommended a folding knife for the BBQ knife, do people really use folders in the kitchen? Personally, I like to keep my kitchen knives separate from my EDC knives
Hey DCA. It is well known that Buck has an amazing heat treatment process getting the most out of their 420 steel thanks to Mr. Bos. What other manufacturers out there would you recommend based on having a high quality heat treatment comparable to Buck?
Hey DCA, love the video content. My question is, what are the 10 best lockback knives under $100?? Also, what is the best steel in the same price range??
Hi DCA and Thomas. I require your vast wisdom. I ran into a old friend of mine and I noticed he does not carry a knife. He is a big fellow with a Mohawk so a 9inch bowie or a big folder came to mind. But knowing him he likes his pockets empty and carries everything around his neck. What neck knife would you recommend for Mr T?
Just treated myself to the Spyderco Endura 4 wharncliffe in K390. Sub $100 for a K390 blade! I realize the endela is more pocket friendly, but bigger knife, less money? Yes please.
Let's say you had $100 to buy 3 basic knives.... one edc folder, one gentleman type knife, one fixed blade.... where would your money be? I know you've done budget videos, but I can't remember this type question.
I absolutely love the whole front flip montage. Frontflip.exe was hilarious. Don’t feel bad DCA I can’t do the reverse flick with almost any knife I own. My hands just won’t do it. My fingers fumble. Three knives I have are the exception- my fox knives “chillin,” my 945 mini Osborne and my para 3. That’s it. It’s quite a pathetic display of inadequacies.
Oh, I just left the comment about there being no list of the knives with links like usual. There must be a problem because when I click on “more” it goes to the next video.
Question. If you had to decided between a Chris Reeves Sebenza or an Umnumzaan knife and a Herman knives Dragonfly 293 magna cut which one would you choose? Regards George
Question for a video what would be a great knife or multi tool for a skateboarder? Something that could be used to tighten or loosen the various components on a skateboard along with a knife blade for the opening of new wheels bearings., a plus if it looks stylish and is small and light enough to fit in a pocket and not throw off your balance
@@joshuaschoonyan3263 so is carrying a small pocket knife in a lot of places in fact in some countries pocket knives are incredibly illegal and more regulated than skateboards and the people who carry pocket knives are seen as criminals for no other reason than they carry a knife, which is the kind of stigma skateboarders have had to put up with for literal decades and is something this channel has brought up tons of times whenever they talk about “non-knife”. People and how a lot of them get uncomfortable when they see something as innocuous as a classic sd Swiss Army knife.
how about a KNIFE SUGGESTION CHALLANGE fellas... lookin for a knife in the 3.25 to 3.75 inch blade range, a proper rear flipper (no front flipper), aggressive g10 handle scales, non-deep (hate deep carry) left side carry pocket clip option, stainless blade material, back lock, frame lock, or liner lock (no button lock) & last, im open to an assisted knife if its done right, & the budget is around a hundred bucks give or take a little ...always enjoy the videos guys, thanx
CJRB has been hitting above its price range for a year or two. A good example is the Pyrite series. The newest entry is the Pyrite Bowie (mine is in the mail) which sells for well under $100 but compares favorable with $200.knives. P.S. I'm not a front flipper person either...don't apologize, there are a lot of us out here.
What’s the deal with all the knives that have something like a 3.03” blade? I would think it would be worth shrinking it down to 3” when the difference is so minor as to be nearly invisible to the naked eye. Are knife makers just banking on every potential customer who lives someplace with a 3” blade limit saying “Eh, close enough.”?
DCA, I'm looking for some good recommendations for reverse tanto, front flipper knives. Also, what makes the reverse tanto blades and front flipper knives so great?
Hey DCA and Thomas. What are steels that take a patina? What is your favorite way to patina a knife? In addition have heard that cutting meats can generate a blue patina, is this true?
Hey DCA, I just got a white river fc5. I'm not a big fan of the tab behind the front finger choil. Do you think the green grinding belt on a work sharp would work to take that down and match the rest of the handle profile?
David, I have a very specific set of requirements to complement my "forever knife" , a Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter. I'd like a drop point blade in super steel(magna cut?), round about 3 inches, in satin or stonewash ,cross bar lock, Micarta ,G Ten, or carbon fibre , bolsters ( Cannot warm to metal handles!) and washers rather than ball bearings at the pivot as I just like the silky feel. Also I'm not big on "holey" blades preferring thumb studs. Price is not so important as I do my crying upfront. Any good suggestions?
I have been bitten by the auto bug what would be your recommendation on a Gentlemans auto up to 300.00. Would like out the side and a 3" to 3.75 blade the Kershaw Launch 8 is in the running any other options that you can recommend.

Picking my favorite nit:
Out of all of the specs you regularly mention with any given knife, IMHO the least often mentioned, (but most important, insofar as regular everyday pocket carry is concerned) is weight. I wish that you would begin including this vital stat on each and every knife, as it is often a deciding factor.
Been a while since I asked a question DCA. I know this is a subjective answer, but I'm thinking of picking up the Native 5 LW or Sage 5 LW. Which one would you pick and why? Watch all the videos, keep up the hard work.
Damn thats a comically huge opinel, i want one 😂

Dear DCA/Thomas: I enjoy restoring old, rusty, banged-up slip-joints, usually Imperial, Camillus, etc. I look for knives that are abused past usability, then I take them apart, clean up the hardware, sharpen the blades, make new brass liners and micarta scales, resulting in a kinda new knife. One of my favorite moments is revealing the make of the knife under all the grime: those old stamps really hold up. I've noticed that very few modern knives feature stamped manufacturing information-it's almost always lasered. This means that, when these knives are rusty and banged up in the future, someone restoring them will run the risk of removing information as they sandpaper and buff away the goop. Question: why do modern knivemakers almost never stamp the tang? Is there something about supersteels that makes such a process difficult? Thanks!

Too late but id recommend the Condor Otzi for an archeologist.
People swear by Sharp by Design knives and the Apex but it's just so ugly and gaudy to me. Easiest 400 I never spent.
Oh, I just left the comment about there being no list of the knives with links like usual. There must be a problem because when I click on “more” it goes to the next video.
Would be nice to see a member wishlist video. What are other knife center people interested in.
How about showing the best way to recondition a leather sheath ?
Question. If you had to decided between a Chris Reeves Sebenza or an Umnumzaan knife and a Herman knives Dragonfly 293 magna cut which one would you choose?
Regards
George
To be fair I can front flip most knives but can’t get any of the ones that are on my Liong Mah designed knives.
Hey Cowboy dude ....look into some Case fixed blades. They have some cool knives as well.
Great question! As a skateboarder I'd love to hear their thoughts on this 👍🏼👍🏼
Skateboarding is a crime.
@@joshuaschoonyan3263 No, it's not. Stupidity should be, however. 🤡
As a "treat knife" the Fox Eastwood Tiger seems a bit more special than some of these others and comes in just under $500.
how about a KNIFE SUGGESTION CHALLANGE fellas... lookin for a knife in the 3.25 to 3.75 inch blade range, a proper rear flipper (no front flipper), aggressive g10 handle scales, non-deep (hate deep carry) left side carry pocket clip option, stainless blade material, back lock, frame lock, or liner lock (no button lock) & last, im open to an assisted knife if its done right, & the budget is around a hundred bucks give or take a little ...always enjoy the videos guys, thanx
My birthday is also coming up, but I have no money to spend on knives. 😢 Praying I'm gifted a Sebenza 🙏
Spyderco for life
CJRB has been hitting above its price range for a year or two.
I can't front flip my Field Duty either😂
DCA, I'm looking for some good recommendations for reverse tanto, front flipper knives. Also, what makes the reverse tanto blades and front flipper knives so great?
Happy 4/20 treat yourself to something nice
Hey DCA and Thomas. What are steels that take a patina? What is your favorite way to patina a knife? In addition have heard that cutting meats can generate a blue patina, is this true?
Question for video: what are some of the best cheap button locks?
My son is saving for his "grail knife." He has been wanting a mini Adamas. He wants to know if you think the magnacut version is worth the added cost.
If stainlessness is important to him, then yes. -DCA
Dang. I think I need a Mora chisel knife now…
Most serious question. What is the one knife that is just so ugly everyone should have one.
Opinel no.13: Beast Of BBQ, however stainless steel, and curiously hard to sharpen ?
Remember DCA whatsoever a man thinketh in his heart that he is❤
Gentlemen, what is the advantage of a non-locking (e.g. slip-joing) knife, other than for legal reasons?
