  • Welcome to Addie and I’s first 3 day event at the lovely Bicton. So proud how far Addie has come this season but unfortunately didn’t quite have the perfect ending I would have hoped for 😢
Thank you for watching and as always hope you guys enjoy the video. Don’t forget to hit that 👍 if you do! Your support means so much to me.

I agree with cam, take her to do some showjumping on bigger tracks to get her head back in the zone. The bigger fences will back her off. Thing is, she’s more than capable so she just wants to whizz around at smaller fences and doesn’t feel the need to be listening to you in the process. A slightly bigger course will keep her focus and hopefully more engaged in your direction and the partnership you’re building. Mega XC, you couldn’t ask for a better attitude from her and the dressage has come on leaps and bounds. The highs more than outweigh the lows here, lots of positives and progress made. Well done you!

She’s a real talent. She’s green and you’re still learning with her. She’s not listening. Maybe a bit of ground work in hand to gain that bit more respect. But you can’t be down because she’s simply a work in progress and awesome. Well done on producing her to this so quickly.

There is an mental as well as physical tiredness that can come from stepping up distances etc. i think she will have learnt so much from this, I think it was just inexperience and she resorted to a little bit to her immature ways of going that you’ve done so awesomely to help build her confidence in this year.

Addie is still so young and performing so well, Em. I truly do not believe her performance in show jumping was a negative, but rather just a learning opportunity for her. She's so smart and when you bring her to the next event/training session she will be that much better off because of Bicton. Well ridden, well done from Addie, and well done team!

  • @sandracapobianco1983

That is a very true statement with horses” you will have the highest of highs with some of the lowest of lows”. Think back to the beginning to now and how VERY far you have both come. Remember you are bringing along a young green bean and will have some of those “blips” along the way. The mental part of horses is SOOOOOO hard and it can definitely give us a knock, she’s taken to dressage and cross country amazingly she just needs to learn a bit more about coming into the show jumping. Little tweaks here and there, maybe a few grids , high cross jumps( that helps to back them off a bit and really pay attention) etc. she will get there, you have done soooo much with her already and she’s maturing steadily. We are ALL so proud of you and look forward to seeing you bringing her along❤️

Loved seeing the "A" team. I'm going to say congratulations to you both. I think you did great. You should have heard my yell when you nearly came a cropper on cross-country over that jump. I spooked my Golden Retriever who was beside me! On that note next year will be utterly amazing for you both. Best to Suzie, she's a great groom and friend to you.

What a season you and Addie have had. I know it's not a nice feeling after the showjumping, but all in all your pony is a little superstar and it seemed she was definitely still in XC mode. As she is young, there is plenty more events in your future (the only way is up as the saying goes). Very well done Emily and Addie - can't wait to see your future adventures together xx

Ah horses! So many brilliant takeaways from this - 8s in the dressage, a truly confident clear on the XC and just how far Addie has come from the slightly tentative mare she was over the winter, with her napping and the odd runouts etc. You were less than 4 faults off the leaders going into the SJ and although I'm sure that also increases your disappointment, it's a hell of an achievement with a six year old you've brought on! Absolutely brilliant. I have no doubt that you will slay it next year, probably in the 100! Perhaps just a bit of confusion for a young horse who's never experienced the XC before the SJ, and for that SJ to then be on grass when her last few rounds (where's been brilliant) were on a surface. She does also seem to be quite teenager-y at the moment - bit bolshy and thinks she knows it all! Which is, to be fair, pretty common with six year olds! If it were me (and feel free to stick this internet commenter's advice wherever you like - she is your horse and you know her far better than me) I'd probably spend the winter doing some groundwork as well as the ridden, and just getting her really paying attention and listening again. That independent attitude such a blessing in a good XC horse, but then they still have to know that Mum knows best in the end!

Bless her, it must have been so confusing for her. Normally, it’s dressage, show jumping and wheee, cross country. Bicton is dressage only on one day, then all that roads n tracks n steeplechase followed by wheeee cross country. Then the 3rd day there is a big grassy field and lots of jumps so it must mean more wheee, cross country. For such a new thing, she held it together nicely. You rode amazingly, those sticky britches probably helped you over that log, that and your balance and core strength. Build on this year, the two of you have come soooo far. She will eventually figure out that not all grass fields mean wheee cross country.

You should be so proud of how far you've bought her on this year, she is a really special little mare and there were so many positives to take away from the experience too. It was only until I decided to move up to novice i reaped the rewards. The bigger fences is what she needs to understand the running can’t happen. It will teach her to wait and to respect them as my gelding did. I no you will probably read this and think she is not ready but honestly, give it a go and I bet you will be suprised. The hardest time is when you have a jigsaw, but putting it all together and finding the right bits going in the right parts . .. and you keep trying this part and that part, and it takes time and then suddenly you look up and see you only have one peice left to slot in 😊. Thats all you have to do Emily.... you have all the right parts, now you just have to find the right way of fitting the last element.... its there you may need to Wiggle, turn it and find the exact way to get Her to listen to you.... BUT the one thing for me that stands out is this.... YOU DIDN'T get eliminated from falling off ❤ so yes you had the disappointment of 5 poles.... but you have the bonus of the experience, the footage and overall... The completion of uour first 3 Day Event 😊❤
She's a baby , with big heart, bravery and trust.... all the building blocks for a winner..... BUT YOU did win your event as you came home intact, with Addie safe and all the experience to go forward in to 2024. . How absolutely exciting is that 😀😀😀 you're an amazing rider, you have an amazing horse, amazing opportunities others don't have or get and a great future. But hey listen, addie was loving it so much. She seemed to let it go to her head. Your results might have been different it SJ was after Dr ey

I have to say she is a different horse from last year! You have done an amazing job with her, and I think you have got a future super star on your hands! She has got a real scopey jump and I think those show jumps just didn't make her focus, if they had been bigger maybe she would have respected them more? At the end of the day it's not the worst problem to have!, at least you know she's absolutely talented enough to go through the grades. Looking forward to seeing what she achieves in 2024.

Well done Emily. I am a dreamer sitting on a sofa and you are out there bossing it! You did amazingly. So many miles ahead of you. Celebrate every victory. Mega victory overall. You have produced a young horse to this point. SJ will come. All a learning curve. Arena for warm up to grass was clearly the trigger. All to master for next year 🎉

You did an incredible job. It’s okay to feel disappointed but also remember she’s only young! She was absolutely buzzing and sometimes horses just don’t play ball and get a bit overwhelmed. Be proud of what you’ve done and how great you both were. She’s a keen bean! Don’t worry about it! You got a whole future ahead with her! And I can’t wait to see what you two go on to do! ❤

No regrets, the mare has improved immensely, just check Thar horsehage isn't warming her up, also blue chip can make them a bit hot, as you are sponsored they will be able to tell you if that is the case. I know it's tough with the show jumping faults but he'll, what a great triumph for her first one day event, she can't read the script so every day was a whole new mind boggling day, well done for not coming off, I love sticky bum breeches lol ❤🎉xx

Was so thankful for the sticky bums that's for sure! She coped with each day so well bless and has come home happy and healthy which is the main thing. I am feeding the HorseHage High Fibre so it's it's high in fibre and lower in protein and energy levels so suitable for her xx

You never know what kind of horse you’ll have on the Sunday of a long format. It’s just more information that you store in your Addie file. You did the best you could! I’ve started doing some grid work the day after XC schools to practice that scenario because it’s so rare we event in that order at a normal HT these days.

Emily I understand why you may feel gutted BUT you definitely should not be. Look at the work you’ve put in… the strides you’ve taken… to have Addie there. I thought it was a lovely turn out. Addie has come a long way. The SJ… Cams right… higher jumps… Addie looking for a challenge… remember she’s smart clever, quick learner. Gymnastics challenges. Winter hacks up down hills to strengthen her hind end, rock her back on her hocks… reach under herself more. That XC 😮 down over the log… chest up chest up good save 😅 Mom Dad and ground crew barn fairies did excellent job👏👏👏👏 the Yawning (in start box etc. when not tired) is the brain/body trying to get more oxygen… deep breaths 😉 Hat pin for next trot up. Em that was ALOT for first time doing true 3 day… you should be proud of Addie and yourself. 😊
