The curve was hard for me to understand not sure what the difference was. Is the band thinner as it reaches the halo?

No the curve, the band is very square, when you will see it in real life it's very noticeable as a posed to having a square band that is more rounded. When people build with curves like that it's because they have very minor knowledge of the software
