i can imagine this cold is a welcomed thing for him. all that body mass must produce a lot of body heat so it cools them off greatly and makes them frisky and playful

That cool weather really energizes the big animals. The high temps in the summer is really rough on big animals and it makes them not want to do much in the heat.

I never really think of Bison as being exuberant, but they sure are in this video. When Big Joe had the white snow mask on his face he really looked liked the Beast from Beauty and the Beast.

This just adds to the majesty of these amazing beasts. Is it possible that the extensive movement is to keep warm? Might it be a signal to the rest of the herd to do likewise? Also, is this Big Joe's way of reminding you (us?) that, at his core - as a bison - he is still really an animal meant for the wilds and outdoors - despite the various efforts at domestication? Point to Ponder.
