Parashat Behalotcha 5783 : Light Up the World

  • The light of the seven-branched Temple Menorah is no ordinary light. The Menorah conveys an awesome secret of the spiritual power of a human being, and the commandment to kindle its lamps - and Aaron’s reaction to that commandment - is a life lesson for our service of G-d.
The portion of Behalotcha (Num. 8 : 1 - 12 : 16) is read in the Land of Israel on Shabbat, 14 Sivan 5783 - June 3, 2023 and in the Diaspora outside the Land of Israel on Shabbat, 21 Sivan 5783 - June 10, 2023

Excellent teaching! I was reading Mesillat Yesharim this pass Saturday . When I had a vision of a Menorah appeared on the page . Now I understand. No I am not crazy, I never did drugs. This really happened to me on Shabbat. Thank you Rabbi Richman for this very important teaching. Really meant a lot to me!

This is a beautiful lesson infused with Divine Life Giving Light. Toda Rabbi Richman.
My reflection: like Aaron, we are all given the opportunity to perform the mitzvah of lighting the menorah - within and around us. We have the opportunity to shine and light up the world around us. And we do so, because we now know of Hashem's presence and love within us and everwhere.
My personal journey: The more familiar I become with Hashem's Light within me - do know, this is new for me BH - the greater and truer my awe, awareness and reverence become.
I do not light physical candles everday, but I do light the candle within me and enter into a heartfelt communion with Hashem.
I notice, how I used to see and feel about myself, others, life - negatively and angrily- is changing from darkness into light, warmth, self-love and love for my fellow man, creationkind. For this Light to perpetuate, I will gladly continue on my part. Shabbat Shalom

The Diaspora Torah portion is one week behind that of the Land of Israel on account of the Second Day of Shevuot that was observed outside of Israel which fell on a Shabbat but with it's own Torah reading. The disparity will continue until July 1st.
