this, make me well up and i am a grown man. but this sort of kindness gets me.
I had a Keel billed Toucan named Sam.. This video brought back a lot of good memories for me.. That sound he would make reminded me right away of the alien in the Predator movie.
I could throw him grapes from across the living room and he would catch it and peel it open. Then he would hop over and get on the couch and climb on me and get on the back and take his bill and run it from side to side on my head making that Predator sound.. If I was drinking anything, he was right there to get a sip off my lips.. they have the wildest tongue also, it's like a feather.. I always wanted to get another one after Sam passed away, but I just don't have as much time as I used to during the day and wouldn't feel right leaving them home all that time alone.
You definitely need to research how to care for one before ever getting one.. They are great companions for sure.

This is heartbreaking. This beautiful animal deserved a wild life.
If it was in a central or South American bird market as a bsby, there’s no chance of returning it. And it was not doing well when it was bought.
Unfortunately, buying wild birds from trappers causes more wild exotic birds to be trapped.

Unfortunately, they bought it and by doing so support and nourish the cruel seller/market. I don’t know the solution and I’m glad this bird found a loving and knowing home.
So many videos on RUclips have this same simpering quality and don't seem very (or at all) real. I scroll to the middle and the voice is intoning: "... he would scream so loud that it was impossible to ignore him" (while "Touki" makes faint croaking sounds). Almost 43,000 people liked content like this enough to subscribe.
Yes, the voice sounds like AI or something that’s not a real person. And this poor bird, while healthier in someone’s home than in a market, would be better off in the wild. Poachers raid nests to get baby parrots and toucans. This toucan seems to have arrived in a box with mailing tape. I hope it wasn’t shipped. Another commenter said that when we buy an exotic pet, we might think we are helping, but really we are spurring poachers to raid more nests. I agree.
It is fake and syrupy and not genuine like using AI voice over just to get viewers to subscribe.
Yes, the young bird was sickly and poor doing when he was purchased. At least they fed him properly and he has a life as a pet bird.
If he’s able to free fly in that beautiful home, clearly they’re doing well and the bird can stay pretty active and healthy.

That’s true.
I was trying to respond to some of the comments, that if this was a well-off person living near the toucans natural range, that it WOULD be possible to acquire this bird and then get advice for rehabilitating the baby and feeding it mostly correctly. I think it US possible.
And that would certainly be better for that INDIVIDUAL toucan, but would encourage continued trapping.
I know the basics of toucan care but in the cold area where I live, keeping a toucss as n would be very expensive and impractical. If I owned my own home and had a room set up as an aviary.
This bird would be expensive and a lot if work to feed and care for properly. Someone with enough money living near that area could probably do it. Would it be right? Again, it’s better for the individual bird, probably not for the species.
A captured sickly baby toucan would probably not be releasable when adult. This bird will have to be cared for forever.
Probably would be best in a captive breeding program. But that’s my opinion. If it’s thoroughly a lapdog, or lapbird, it wouldn’t be happy there.

Or, if there aren’t any such places in their area, maybe they should adopt at least one other toucan companion for him. They are social birds that live in groups of 20+ birds, according to Wikipedia. I wonder which country they are in - they described seeing lots of birds in a “market,” including sick neglected birds like this one.

Wait a minute. There is something suspicious about this story. One day you went to a "market" and Touki just happened to be there. What market? One for exotic animals? Did the dealer have a license for exotic bird sales? Did you report the abusive conditions to authorities? There are too many holes in this story to make sense.

Aren’t Toucans super hard to care for as well? Especially one most likely plucked from the wild that was sickly that they randomly picked up from a market? Plenty of RUclipsrs that specifically care for these types of birds that show how hard it can be to tend to their needs. It’s not easy just to find a vet that’s overly knowledgeable on how to care for them.
Dude they obviously live somewhere in Asia, shit happens over there. They don’t follow the pet safety laws and rules of the Western world, what we would consider illegal pet markets are just a normal occurrence over there.

Hated my first college, came back home. Got a job at a bird store before started a new school. Cleaning up after and feeding 1500 birds a day. Yup. Those toucans, can catch a grape pretty good.

Imagine if we as from one species have sometimes very unconventional needs and are so different from each other , how it must be difficult to adapt for such a being, that is made for a life completely different from the one we're living.
