I spent an entire summer living in Rouyn-Noranda back in 2012. My best friend is a native on the town. It is beautiful there; very different from where I live. This sure brings back memories and taught me a few new things about my secondary home.

I ami proud to live in beautiful Rouyn-Noranda. This city provides three golf courses at approximately five minutes from your home and a ski hill at à distance of twenty minutes by car. We are also fortunate to have a nice lake with a beach at a walking distance.

I live in Rouyn-Noranda and I'm sorry to say, healthcare services SUCK. For the rest, it's quite nice.
Oh, and the building they show at 3:20 is NOT the hospital, it's a governmental center that is miles away from the hospital. The hospital is visible at 2:03 next to Gerry Barriault's head; it's located on the edge of Osisko lake.

1st. thing. The lake in the towns are all polluted. The air is polluted by the Horne Foundry. There is a clear lack of apartments. A lot of the existing apartments are gross and unsafe for living. The mayor dont really want to do something because he possess apartments. The landlords are abusing people. The streets are in total decay. The cost of living is very high desoite being far from all services in the south. The 2 'main streets' are full of trash. Building are old and needs repaing....

Unless you speak fluent French, I don't recommend going to Rouyn.
If you do insist on going there, stay away from Pizzeria Noranda since they'll serve you last if you don't speak French. A table my work group was with waited 45 minutes for their food to come out, long after the rest of us had already finished our (overpriced) meals.
If you need to stop into a grocery store while there, I suggest an IGA since they're always very clean and well taken care of, much more than what you can say about grocery stores here in Ontario.

People from Timmins (both anglophones and francophones) have always visited Rouyn for shopping, restaurants and more. It is the closest city to us. English is my first language and I do speak French. I have NEVER heard of anybody being treated badly there or ignored because they couldn't speak French well or at all. I have almost always received excellent service wherever I went in Rouyn. MUCH better service than we normally get in Timmins.
You can't go there expecting people to speak English to you. I don't go to London ON and expect people to speak French to me.

I live here now and never had a problem to be served in English...plus a good part of the population speaks both languages!

Maybe it wasn't a language issue?

First, it's La Frontière newspaper not the frontier. Yup, Proximédia is laying off 70 employees but they still have over 150 people still making a living. Housing ? Yeah, much more expensive then 20 years ago when we were going through tough economic times. Guess what ? That's capitalism- offer vs demand. You know the fundamental on which our western democracies are built upon ? Who the hell ever talked about bathing in Lake Osisko ? Gees, Louise ! If you do find paradise please tell us.

Wow I live in rouyn-noranda and pretty much all they say is facts that are not true at all

I prefer not to talk too much about Rouyn.Noranda, as I do not wish people from outside this part of the country to see it at all!
I do not want to tell about these vast forests, these hundreds of lakes, this moderate climate. People here smile easily...
We have giant mosquitoes! There are no roads coming this way! Snowshoes are best for travel. The biggest reason is : We are french! Is there anything else to say? Yes.
You are slowly losing memory. Rouyn Noranda means nothing to you :)

How long have you been gone ? I guess maybe you should do your own research before saying those are prefabricated facts. Yes, we are still a city that has experienced spectacular development over the last 10 years mostly due to the mining industry but it has also diversified and has become a vibrant and cultural community. Cutbacks exist everywhere and so do financial difficulties. Sorry about the fact things didn't work out for you in Rouyn but don't judge the community on your failure.
