I love 3d coat but saying it can replaced Maya... the modeling room still have a lot to work with compared to Maya's toolset in modeling. I love to see them push more and copy more of it in 3dcoat.

I have been watching your maya tutorials for a long time. I bought 3dcoat 2 days ago and couldnt find good tutorials on new versions. Then saw you begin a serie on it. Looking forward to watch more. Thank you.

The more i explore 3DC, the more love-hate feeling i have. It sure have very powerful tools, but using the tools feel a bit... how do i put this, it is like a super sharp knife, with bad designed handle, that reduce its full potential. Maybe (i hope) it is just me.😅

My feeling is actually the opposite. The more I use it, the more I like it@@cwtjones

Looking forward to a good series of tutorials in 3D Coat. For me, the biggest deal breaker ( i bought it anyway) is the model in retopo or polygon modeling will get voxelizd again when bring back to sculpt room. It would be greate if we can have it remain quad and continue sculpt from there.

Best to work the otherway round, make everything in voxels then retopo into a poly mesh...

Painting with Deep Displacement ( Micro-Vertex) is for creating Displacement maps. It's main function but also able to create normal maps as well. It creates World space normal maps that can be exported as tangent based normal map. Many years ago, in the Version 2 series of 3DCoat it was the main sculpting room pre-dating voxels and surface mode polygon sculpting.

Not with can replace until it becomes possible to bake combined textures that contain lighting, normals, diffusion and all other maps, as is implemented in Substance Painter through exporting a 2D texture viewте

basically as a game artist i love how many things coat can do. its why i switched from zb. the production pipe is way more important to me. i can do all of it in coat from sculpt to retopo to uvs to painting. even has poly modeling now and other new stuff like coverting poly models to nurbs. its cra. all for price of old zbrush lisc and 50$ upgrades per year. you can work fast in coat. i find i work faster and more fluidly in coat and get more done....i also use blender but mainly for backup some poly models and when i want to push some model to sp i use blender to organize complex models.

Hello, how do I adjust the number of undo's in 3D Coat? The default feels a bit low.

Maya is primarily for animation, 3d coat doesn't have it, and it's modeling is half baked at best.

not true - as a student you can get your license for just $5, or in fact for free if your university uses 3dcoat for studies.
