  • Here Nick forges a set of side grab, offset bladesmithing tongs, a style that is quite popular in our bladesmithing classes. The New England School of Metalwork is a non profit craft school located in Auburn Maine. Check out www.newenglandschoolofmetalwork.com for a class schedule.

Great video Nick, and I will be coping you and making myself some. Also the link to the school in the description isn't working.

Nick, why a cross peen and not a rounding hammer? Is it a matter of preference?

Yup, preference. I feel a cross peen is a better choice for general smithing.

Hi Shane, This was 6" of 5/8 square. 5/8 round should work fine. I would bump up the very tips so you have plenty of material for the bits.
