Hi Friends! I hope you enjoy the video. I've added links to everything mentioned in the video, but if I've missed anything or you have questions, let me know. I'd also LOVE to know what is on your wish list or maybe something you've received in the past that you loved. I'm sure we would all appreciate the ideas! xx
I've had mine for a few yrs now. I love it. It has 3 light settings on each side and it's definitely bright enough. You can twist it to any position you need and it stays. Also came in handy during Hurricane Ian in 2022 (no power for 11 days!). I was able to crochet at night. I had a flameless candle of course but the neck light allows you to see your stitches better.
Other things not mentioned that can be found for pretty cheap: 1. Stitch markers, you can never have too many and you can get them with cute charms! 2. Darning needles, I'm constantly loosing mine! 3. Cute yarn, make sure its the kind that they crochet with, I personally love blanket yarn bc its soooo soft and fuzzy but worsted weight is almost always a safe option! 4. Makeup bag, it sound odd but I use these for soooo many things, I like to have one for each project and store my hooks, scissors, stitch markers, needles, safety eyes, labels, etc, its so much easier when you can put everything for one project in the same bag so you aren't digging around your craft room looking for the hook you were using! 5. Large storage bags/totes, we definatley need some yarn storage because we all have way too much yarn that we will probably never use! 6. New yarn scissors, nothing is better than a brand new super sharp pair of scissors! 7. Stress balls, there have been some times I have crocheted so much that my hands started cramping, stress balls give your hands a nice break and work out all that tension! 8. Lint rollers, some yarns tend to shed while you are working and some projects look nice when all the lil fuzzies have been removed! 9. Sewing pins, I use these all the time for my amigurumi, they work awesome for holding tiny arms and legs in position while I sew them to the body! 10. Their favorite chocolate or candy, I love chewing gum while I work on projects but any other sweet would work too as long as it leaves your fingers clean!
On the same note as #4, pencil cases in cool designs (I have a Pirates of the Caribbean case from my middle school years that I still use to hold misc knitting and crochet supplies)
@@PlayHookywithMeThey even have fancy scissors that can be worn as a necklace. On that same note, the pretty tension rings are a great option for some people.
Other great ideas include a yarn winder, decorative tension rings, arthritis compression gloves if they have hand pain, decorative stitch markers (many on Etsy), blocking mats or boards, and my personal favorite are yarn holders that spin, especially the magnetic ones in the Wool Jeanie style.
Thanks for the suggestions, I had never thought of a Yarn of the Month club, but that's an awesome idea! The only other suggestion I would have would be an Ottlite, I have a floor lamp and use it all the time. Much better light than a standard lamp. :)
All of these ideas are great and to that I would also add the gift of your time. Years ago friend had heard me say I needed to organize my stash because I didn’t know how much of what yarns I had. She made a gift certificate for me to choose a date for her to come over and help me. Sadly we ended up moving before I could take her up on that offer but I still think of what a great gift that was.
I own the pink backpack project bag you showed. It’s been very handy on camping and road trips. Durable, lots of storage space, and you can plug in a USB battery pack to the charging port.
Hi Roz. Definitely get the neck light. I have that exact brand and I love it. I also got one for my mother (who is 80 years young) and she uses it constantly. You will not be sorry. I also love that you have a lot of the same books that I have. Great minds! Yarn bowls are great. I made my own yarn bowl and my mother pilfered it! 😂 I love all of your tips and tricks videos. I look forward to see what yarn-spirations you bring us in 2024. We love seeing all of your fur babies in your videos. Warm Regards, Shannon. ❤💕❤
Perfect! 💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕 And you could even make a gift card holder! Christmas Gift Card Holder Tutorial | Crochet Reindeer Gift Card Holder [EASY] ruclips.net/video/eBWpmUrJsN0/видео.html
Great suggestions! My MiL got me a fantastic crochet project bag and my BiL got me a complete set of Clover hooks (!!!!!) which were great gifts, so I highly recommend both! I would also say a nice Yarn winder would be an amazing gift, and a yarn swift, if you have an idea of what sort they would like. My aunt also spontaneously gave me a cheap set of Tunisian crochet hooks, which is also a good idea, especially if your crocheter makes a lot of clothes and wants to try something new. For Darn Good Yarn: I LOVE the company and their products have been great, but I would definitely recommend taking a look at the types of yarns and colors they make before you purchase the yarn subscription. They tend toward very vibrant colors and multi-color yarns, which suits me just fine but wouldn't be useful for someone who likes muted or solid colors. My personal wish list includes that very neck light and some ring stitch counters! One last suggestion: If you don't have money, but do have time, why not scroll through youtube and make a play list of cool tutorials and creators to follow? Sometimes just choosing my next project can be overwhelming and I end up just making another blanket because I can't make a decision on something else. Having a go-to list would be so helpful! Whatever you do, though, please don't buy yarn. I know a lot of people suggest it, but the sad fact is that unless you know for a fact what they like and how much they'll need, you're just going to end up giving them a skein of gorgeous yarn that they can't use because there isn't enough of it and they can't buy more for whatever reason. A gift card or a kit is a fantastic alternative, or if you're feeling brave (and maybe generous), take a trip to a local yarn store with them and let them pick it themselves. (Take notes if you do! You can always get them some of the other yarns they loved later, so long as you're willing to ask the staff how much you should get for a specific project.)
I love that you did this video. These items are wonderful suggestions. Yes I have noticed that you love granny squares. I will purchase some of these items for myself for Christmas. I usually just get by with the basics. These items take it up a notch. Thank you so much for sharing. I have trouble working with dark colors because of my eyesight. I wonder if the light would help with that? 🌍☮️🌲
Hi Jennie, I have the same issue with my eyes so I’m hoping this will help. It looks like one of the colors is a cool, daylight which would be perfect. Have a great week and great to see you 💕💕💕
Please help me understand. Are you talking about maybe a Clorox Wipe Plastic Container? I have a brain injury, so forgive me. The Plastic Wipe Container is the only thing I could think of when I thought about your comment. Thanks
Lots pf good ideas. Worry about getting a book they already have. The baby bag is one i never thought of but good idea. Neck lights are a great gift i use mine most nights.
I have the exact rechargeable neck light you highlight here. I love it for crochet, has 3 light intensity levels. Once around the neck lights can be positioned using the bendable feature. When crocheting with black I like to ppsition lights closer together to focus beam on work. The light lasts quite awhile on a charge, and I found out my phone charger fits so I don't have to plug in an additional charger. Anytime I need a focused light this is what i reach for. I highly recommend it.
I'm looking at my Glocusent right now! I've had it for over 2 years and it hasn't done a step wrong. And mine is used _every_ night. Totally recommend!! (No, not sponsored, just a fan. 🤓) I love your list - such wonderful ideas!! 😊 If I can add my thoughts re: monthly gift boxes? Please make sure you know the recipient. I was gifted a few months' subscription, but I mainly make plus size wearables so I never got enough of any type/colour yarn to really do anything with them. As they were really exotic yarns, they were outside my budget to buy more to make what was gifted usable. They're safe in moth-proof bags, because who knows where my crocheting journey will take me next, but until then... 🤷♀️ On a good note, I found out Im not allergic to yak - that's gotta be a plus regardless! 😂
Hahahaha I nearly choked on my tea regarding yak!! 😂😂😂👏🏻👏🏻 Love it ! And great point on the yarn of the month- definitely something to bare in mind. Thank you on the light as well 😀🙌🏻💕
Also I noticed she mentioned Darn Good Yarns. Their yarn is lovely, but it is made of recycled silk. Some of my crochet friends are more “basic” crocheters., or they make amigurumi. They would really prefer gifts of worsted or bulky weight acrylics or other machine washable yarns that can be used for baby items etc. Those that prefer the fancier yarns , hand dyed, and exotics might love a box like this to make hats, gloves, scarves, and shawls.
What great ideas . I'm fairly new knitter and crochet. I do have lots of yarn but the books and yarn bowl is beautiful. My 24 yr old grandson has picked up crocheting during covid so good ideas for him.❤
A neck light is an amazing thing for areas of poor lighting or with dark color yarns. I have several of the books shown here. I loved this video! Thank you for the ideas.
I can recommend the neck light. Makes crocheting so much easier in the dark days of winter. Well worth the investment. Thank you again Ros for your wonderful videos that have helped me so much.
I have that exact same neck light and love it. I also got a carrying case to go with. It has different settings and using it on the highest setting works great when the power goes out. Just wear it around your neck and you won’t be stubbing your toe on the coffee table! 😂
I'm a pretty frugal crocheter I although I like the actual items instead of using something else I tend to find cheaper ways of getting certain items... For example I didn't wanna pay $40 for a boppy or more for a pillow that's listed for crochet or gaming so I got cheap n bought a boppy liner/cover for $12 dollars n figured I'd fill it with other pillow fill I have from stored away pillows not being used. I might also use it as a template since I'm plus size and can sew my own.
This year I started asking people for gift cards to my local yarn stores! Both big craft stores and local little yarn shops. makes me feel less guilty when I go buy all that yarn, and bonus 'payback' if I'm making them something this year too!
That is a great list of gift ideas! I have that exact neck light and love it. I use it at night and in dim lighting situations. And you can change the brightness level.
Hello Roz and a happy Sunday to yo . I see that we have some of the same crochet books .i am going over to Michael's this week and hope to see the yarn boul . I think it's a great idea so as to keep the yarn in tack when working and what you showed is very attractive . I would love to get a book on making dolls and stuff . I love your suggestion for the arm pillow , because like you i love yo crocket in bed especially at night before bed . I find it therapeutic . I love all your videos Roz and can't wait for next year God's willing . You are a godsend . Even though I am a good crocheter i always learn something new from you. May God bless you and those gifted hands .❤❤❤🇨🇦
Thank you so much , Angela , I’m looking forward to the year ahead and have some ideas I’m excited to share. I feel like it’s a mutual community here bouncing off ideas . I love it ❤️ Have a great week 😘
I actually prefer a headlamp to the neck light. That way it's focused on what you're looking at always, and you don’t have to move your project to be in the light. I use one that's marketed for rock climbers with different light levels and the ability to have a area light as well as a targeted light. Plus, it's designed to be worn for hours.
A nice crochet hook in wood or resin for the crocheter to try. Stick with 5mm or 4mm. Maybe something egronomic I love Ommi hooks in wood they are similarly shaped to Furls but better priced, although when Furls has a sale might be more affordable. Yarn gift cards, works too.
I REALLY REALLY recommend a SPECIFIC crochet/knit neck light OVER a reading neck light…I wasn’t convinced until trying both and the differences were quite noticeable! Reading lights are fine in a pinch, for sure! If given the choice, however? My experience is as stated. Great video regardless! And your yarn bowl is GORGEOUS!!! Thank you so much! Cheers! ☺️🫶🏻🧶🧑🏻🎄
All of these are great ideas! Now I know what to ask for Christmas. 😉🎁 I would like some fancy hook (not a complete set, but at least one in size 5.5mm which is what I use the most) or some fancy scissors.
I have placed the neck light in my cart! It will be useful all the time at home. However, when I visit my sister (on the other side of the country), and stay in her guest room, or sit in her living room, I cannot crochet. She has a quirk that she does not have any lamps in her home! And she is a reader! She uses overhead lights only. I hate overheads- they remind me of being at work, and I cannot relax. I was thinking of putting a reading lamp in my suitcase next time, but this may solve the problem. Personally I have a lamp near every chair, and on either side of the beds. I would add that a gift of really special stitch markers, like those found on Etsy, might be appreciated. Also a row counter. And I agree with other commenters regarding a yarn swift and ball winder.
I actually have two neck lights, one that you’ve seen on Amazon and another one that is on Instagram. I’m over 70 and I always need to keep them charged up to crochet nice review.❤
I have that neck light, love it and have used it in many ways other than crochet. It holds it's charge well and is pretty fast when it needs charging. I also have the neck magnifying lglass with lights. While I love the magnifying part, the lighting is okay, not great. Both are very easy for me to take with me when traveling (or goin' to town for appointments, have crochet, will travel 😉😊
My husband gave me a 3d printed yarn bowl that holds a skein that has not been caked. Since it is plastic it is a lot more durable with my son and dogs.
Well , that one I’m not sure of 😕… my daughter in law got it for me a few years ago. I’m assuming Etsy but I’ll have to ask her to see if she can remember 💕 I love it
Yes , excellent. Too right 💕 👍🏻 I like the idea of being able to work in the car (as a passenger) when it gets dark so this is where my mind is going with this suggestion. The mobility aspect.
@@PlayHookywithMe I know i have one :) and your list is great :) the only downside i think with the books is that you first have to make sure they don't already have it XD
I just sent the crochet pillow to my husband. (Hint, hint). Lol. I’ve never done that before. Knowing him he’ll think to himself: “what do I need this for?” 😆
It seems like a lot of my yarn friends feel guilty about treating themselves to more expensive yarns, so I usually buy them gift certificates to our Local Yarn Shop. Then I’m also supporting a local small business!
Everyone loves their neck light. I detest mine. It is heavy and hard and awkward trying to get the angle the way I like it. I made a towel tube and shoved it in there. It still is uncomfortable. Maybe I should try a cozy yarn for the tube. It still will be heavy though. That’s my story😅
I had the same experience with getting a good angle. I ended up getting a headlamp designed for rock climbing which is comfortable to wear, lets the light always be exactly where you're looking, and has adjustable brightness. I highly recommend it, and I hope it helps!

Love that idea 😍
The neck reading light is incredible. I'm 70 & I use it on cloudy days, even sun shining days. In short, I always use it & it's a game changer for me.
So glad to read this ! I’m definitely going to get one , the lighting in the evenings is s struggle so I think this will be perfect 👏🏻👏🏻💕

Loved it! I wish my husband would see it hehe!
Hahaha tell him Roz said to watch! 😆💕
Great , thank you ! 👏🏻💕
I have a headlamp in my hiking backpack and never thought to use it for my crocheting! Thanks for suggesting it.
Lovely suggestions, thank you 🫶🏻
I REALLY REALLY recommend a SPECIFIC crochet/knit neck light OVER a reading neck light…I wasn’t convinced until trying both and the differences were quite noticeable! Reading lights are fine in a pinch, for sure! If given the choice, however? My experience is as stated. Great video regardless! And your yarn bowl is GORGEOUS!!! Thank you so much! Cheers! ☺️🫶🏻🧶🧑🏻🎄
Thank you ! Can you share the one that you liked? 💕
Great ideas! I can ask Santa for the neck light which looks great. Thanks!
I’m definitely asking Santa after the feedback on it 👏🏻💕
Good evening Rose 🥰
Thank you so much for the amazing video. I love them all ❤🎉 xx
Hey there, lovely Miss Crafty ! Glad to see you here ❤️👏🏻
@@PlayHookywithMe 🥰thank you 🙏❤️ happy to be here 🥰 xx
I love all the ideas and I’m going to start by buying the neck light then some of the recommended books. Thank you for the suggestions.
Awesome, Peggy! 😀👏🏻💕
All of these are great ideas! Now I know what to ask for Christmas. 😉🎁 I would like some fancy hook (not a complete set, but at least one in size 5.5mm which is what I use the most) or some fancy scissors.
Fabulous! 💕
Wonderful! Love the suggestions, thank you and I hope the light works out . That would be a lot easier than the lamp - fingers crossed 🤞🏻 💕
It’s me- I’m the crocheter in my life and I will be buying some of these 😂 thanks!
Yeahhhh 🙌🏻😆💕
Love all the ideas. Thank you 😊
Thanks so much 💕
I actually have two neck lights, one that you’ve seen on Amazon and another one that is on Instagram. I’m over 70 and I always need to keep them charged up to crochet nice review.❤
Wonderful, thank you for sharing 😀🙌🏻💕
I have that neck light, love it and have used it in many ways other than crochet. It holds it's charge well and is pretty fast when it needs charging. I also have the neck magnifying lglass with lights. While I love the magnifying part, the lighting is okay, not great. Both are very easy for me to take with me when traveling (or goin' to town for appointments, have crochet, will travel 😉😊
Thank you ! I’m so glad it’s as useful as I was hoping. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻💕
My husband gave me a 3d printed yarn bowl that holds a skein that has not been caked. Since it is plastic it is a lot more durable with my son and dogs.
That’s fabulous! 👏🏻
Great ideas
Thank you, Patricia 😀💕
This is lovely
So glad ❤️
I crocheted a crochet 🧶 holder and remote control holder placed on side of chair.
What a great idea! 😀👏🏻🧶
I'm about to sew one, then crochet a design on the front.
Yarn yarn and yarn 🧶
Yeah girl, I like the way you think! 🧶🙌🏻
The pink acrylic hook with the metal head and dried flowers in the handle is gorgeous! Where did you get it? Thank you 😊
Well , that one I’m not sure of 😕… my daughter in law got it for me a few years ago. I’m assuming Etsy but I’ll have to ask her to see if she can remember 💕 I love it
Awesome 👍🏾 thank you
Gift cards to yarn stores like Joann’s or michaels!
Always my favorite 🤩
The neck lamp is great but another option though a little more expensive would be a daylight lamb
Knowing him he’ll think to himself: “what do I need this for?” 😆
Bahahaha 😂😂😂😂❤️
In reply to my question, yes I was a knitter, but I much prefer doing crochet, but it's hard to hold the yarn any other way
I love the hook rolls you showed. Where are they from? ❤
The links to the ones in the video are in the description box. They are on Amazon but I think you can find some others on Etsy as well 👏🏻💕
Thank you-I guess I’m blind as well as deaf! (Yes, I am deaf)
It seems like a lot of my yarn friends feel guilty about treating themselves to more expensive yarns, so I usually buy them gift certificates to our Local Yarn Shop. Then I’m also supporting a local small business!
Oh I love that - win win 😍
Everyone loves their neck light. I detest mine. It is heavy and hard and awkward trying to get the angle the way I like it. I made a towel tube and shoved it in there. It still is uncomfortable. Maybe I should try a cozy yarn for the tube. It still will be heavy though. That’s my story😅
Oh damn.. is it the same brand? Your feedback is valuable , though, thank you! 👏🏻💕
I had the same experience with getting a good angle. I ended up getting a headlamp designed for rock climbing which is comfortable to wear, lets the light always be exactly where you're looking, and has adjustable brightness. I highly recommend it, and I hope it helps!
@@chelliespider Thanks!! That sounds more comfortable too.
You must have a ga:e crochet dictionary and a technical crochet books. I have both
🤔Do you have a set of patterns that are the zodiacs.... 😁🤞I would love to make them, thank you 😁
Great idea ! Unfortunately, no I don’t 😕
To me, any pattern book worth their weight in gold are spiral bound so they lay flat. 😊
Great point on spiral bound , that’s a bonus , no doubt 😀
I do not recommend Darn Good Yarn unless you are an absolute beginner. Their patterns are boring.
How’s the quality of the yarn? That’s really what you’re paying for with these boxes.
