"Aw, bless her heart, she's trying!" Honestly, I'd rather watch Monique Gabrielle in this, a terrible actress who's clearly pouring everything she has into doing the best she can, than say, Ben Kingsley in Bloodrayne, an Academy-Award-caliber talent who clearly stopped caring at all five minutes after he stepped on set. And how seriously they didn't take this film is what makes it work. It's almost ahead of its time, what with self-referential deconstructive genre films having risen to prominence since Scream.
Toni Naples The fun came through in the film! You could tell everyone involved was enjoying themselves. I've seen this movie so many times and it never fails to make me smile. Hail Sultana! You fine folks made one of the most entertaining Sword and Sorcery films if the 80s.
OH MY GOD, You guys were the best, this is a great movie. is there any truth to the rumour that your departure was so abrupt because you were late for a plane?
@@kurvos If you're gonna be internet mean, be internet mean to the right person eh? - It's Monique Gabrielle that plays the two parts in this movie...You silly sausage! XD
This movie has one of the best commentary tracks ever recorded. Jim Wynorski (director), John Terlesky and Toni Naples (actors) are hilarious in the commentary. Wynorski even encourages people to take snack breaks when extraneously added scenes show up. You will never hear another commentary as no holds barred as Deathstalker 2.
dirtnastyish - The original DVD release has it (This flick would never get a special edition re-release), but I wouldn't go after that edition because people want outrageous prices for it. Future releases of Deathstalker 2 were done as part of a bargain bin movie 2-pack or 4-pack which has commentary for Deathstalker 1 & 2 (Barbarian Queen and The Warrior & The Sorceress are the additional movies on the 4-pack). Like the original release, the 2-pack is overpriced a a "collector's edition", but you can usually find the 4-pack for about $15 USD.
DocGriffon Thanks for the heads up. I checked ebay and found the 4 pack but it would ship from Australia. Maybe I'll get it or I'll just wait for one to list from the US. Thanks again.
I have seen this movie over 100 times easily. I have it and still watch it at least twice a year even now. I love Monique Gabrielle, bless her kind heart. Amazon Women on the Moon is another great bad flick with her talents. The crypt scene has the names of many people involved in the movie. This is *absolutely* the best Deathstalker movie. Best chemistry for sure. So glad you used the actual credits!
I actually LOVE when medieval fantasy movies have some modern-ish technology. Accursed Farms did a review of a game called Strife that had a similar aesthetic where after a nuclear war everyone reverted to medical technology after a couple generations but they still had some modern tech in the wealthiest cities. We need more of that.
It's too bad Roger Corman apparently had this weird thing where he just didn't want his films to be funny. This one turned out to be super fun and it's great, I can see why so many people say it's the best Deathstalker. And that "No laughing!" in the credits... I think it's my favorite part.
When I first heard about this movie, it kinda looked like Army of Darkness without the time travel, with the silly nature of it. Deathstalker here actually reminds me a lot of Bruce Campbell, I love it. :D
GoodBadFlicks It's the best one of the series. It has just the right amount of action and humor to stay interesting throughout. I'm glad it didn't take itself serious like the other films did. The commentary on the double feature DVD release is very entertaining as well. It's worth tracking down a copy, even if it's pretty pricey today.
FANTASTIC movie, I even own it on laserdisc! The music by Chuck Cirino is fun, and I even got to meet Monique Gabrielle once and told her how great it was.
you missed the part where if you throw a ninja star at a little person they explode leaving behind little smoking booties and nothing else! it is important that people know these facts!
i made a suit ov chainmail and drove interns mad with the Deathstalker challenge. Watch DS 1. roll wire from spool. Watch DS 2. roll and snip. DS1 commentary. link and pattern. DS2 commentary. weave "You know they made 4 right? wanna take a break and watch the 3rd one with MST3K?" no one ever made it to 4. the suits would be finishished and everyone remembers the movie in the background ov their lives. bonus feature. sound tracks! sound effect cues. cannibalism. 'beastality?' is it beastiality if its rape? important questions.
the only thing that the deathstalker films had going for them were the posters. these belong to an age in which posters were actual paintings rather than photographs from the film, and thus came the phenomenon of posters that were better than the film itself... i recall to this day renting the deathstalker 3 video on the strength of the poster art and referring to the film itself as "a deception"...
Yeah one of my favorite movies, seen it way more than 5 times. The first time I watched this film some friends and I had been watching several sword and sorcery films and noticed the reused fight scene because we saw it three times first in Death Stalker II, then the Barbarians, and I think the third one was Barbarian Queen
I bought that 4 pack with the first two deathstalkers (having seen #3 on MST3k) and the barbarian queen movies. I was sort of unimpressed with the first, though it was enjoyable as these type of movies go, but seriously the second one was a high point for 80s sword and sorcery cheese for me. Plus the theme song redeemed any flaws the movie had (I'm looking at the overly long wrestling sequence). I was really pleased with the gag reel at the end of the movie, which really capped things nicely. Additionally, the sword duel at the end was really quite enjoyable. Great review.
I found the VHS of this movie at a sale a local video store was having a couple of months ago, and boy did I make the right choice in picking this up. It's low budget, sure, but it's a got a fun sense of humor and adventure to it. Plus, that Deathstalker guy is one cool dude.
The death of Eddie "Footstool" Laroza... recently dismissed by Ivan the Terrible for excessive brutality. Deathstalker dispatches him with the throwing star and he drops his explosive arrow as he falls, blowing himself up... cut to scene of his empty smoking shoes. Deathstalker goes on to finish off the rest of the "Fearless Five" (as Sultana calls them) including John "the Baptist" Von Basso (drownings a specialty) and Nick the Crippler of Kashmir-- I think his name says it all... Terrific flick... tons of fun and great scenery (and I don't mean the locations and sets)... LOL:) Later! OL J R :)
8:10 - "Jerak's sword fighting so whose shooting lightning?" That lightning is stock footage from 1986's Amazons (which is one of the best 80's sword-and-sorcery films in my opinion.).
Nice one Cecil, plenty of laughs, and i'm glad you returned to the series, it's a pleasant oddity. I guess you've seen the MST3K crew riff Deathstalker 3, did you feel it deserved it? After you mentioned Chopping Mall, I immediately thought "Future episode potential!", massively underrated preposterous 80s horror/comedy.
Can we all take a moment and appreciate how ridiculously hot John Tereksky is. Also I don’t think there is a movie where Monique didnt steal the show. I mean people still remember her scene in bachelor party and she was the best thing about Return of the swamp thing even beating out 80s heather locklear running around in lingerie.
5:30 WHOA!!!!!! I still catching that late on saturday nights when I was a kid! Epic funny review as always Cecil I didn't care for the first film at all but this film I've seen clips of on YT here&there I really do want to check out did it make dvd format?
I actually joined in on a stream showing this a few nights ago, we were laughing that the cartoon stock sound effects and wacky reaction shots; but it totally makes sense now that I know the director was inspired by Bugs Bunny! I thought the two leads, while terrible actors, were genuinely cute together and made a good team.
One of the best music themes ever imo, or the whole score really (by Chuck Cirino by the way), also a very entertaining movie just like the first one even despite being campy or cheesy (or maybe because of that!). A guilty pleasure, perhaps also cause I'm a millennial! Thanks.
Man this movie looks great, you are right monique is adorable. Also to bad they didn't say lions and tigers and bears, instead of dragons ogres and wolfs.
I've watched tons of your vids and this is only the second movie you've reviewed that I will definitely go out and get (the first was Oculus, which was awesome).
awesome! an " Amazon Women on the Moon" reference! i love that movie. i found it on DVD about 8 years ago, and it got all scratched. I've tried ordering it twice and both times it hasn't shown up. i feel like it's cursed.
This is a guilty pleasure of mine. The movie is soooooo bad but also very entertaining. It's just great to poke fun at or watch with some (drunk) friends :P
It's my fav of the series. But i kinda see where Roger Coreman is coming from in thinking it's way too goofy to be part of the franchise. Perhaps cut out the scenes reused from the original. Rename it into something else. And you have yourself an awesome stand alone flick. That's an absolute classic.
If you haven't done "Ice Pirates", you really should. It's really cheesy, but it's one of my favorite low budget sci-fi movies (along with "Battle Beyond the Stars").

Use "Roger Corman Sword & Sorcery Collection" when you search Ebay. You'll find plenty of US sources. ;)
Those ending credits were amazing.
I love the part where the clone princess says she could just eat him up. His response of "Bones and everything huh?" was perfect and very funny.

Every time I get a song stuck on my mind that I really don't want to be stuck on, I just sing the Deathstalker II theme. It's nature's reboot button!
Still one of my all time favs. I’ve always loved the movies where the cast and crew really try to produce an enjoyable movie and it shows.

+GoodBadFlicks That's why you made that video about movie posters, right?
+lightningmanmatthew not directly influenced but one of the movies where the posters really sold them. They are gorgeous

There is actually 4 of them, although 1-2 are the best. 3 has the worst version of the character of Deathstalker and 4 is mostly reused footage from 1
the only Deathstalker movie ive seen. love this one.

Holy, cow, tha'ts what I call cutting corners! That's turning a square into a effing circle! XD

Vuyisile Sibeko one of the best post cred blooper sequences ever. So much fun
That's what made me love this Deathstalker more than the others; the bloopers at the end.
Plus, it's just an all-around fun campy movie. :)
well they say a lot of squares can make a circle

If you haven't done "Ice Pirates", you really should. It's really cheesy, but it's one of my favorite low budget sci-fi movies (along with "Battle Beyond the Stars").
I was just thinking that I'd like to watch a light hearted fantasy B Movie that doesn't take itself too seriously... Oh wait no it wasn't.
These wee actually very good perhaps great movies. Yeah not super technical and all that but damn they were fun to watch.
¡Otro éxito del cine argentino! ¡Amo a mi país!
I love this video you should do the third deathstalker movie
Dissolve effect cost too much, eh? Give me a PC and ten minutes and ill give you a dissolve effect. Technology sure has advanced.

I LOVE this movie. I LOVE Monique Gabrielle. I love this film so much I have the theme as my wake up call.
if you could reboot any 80s B-Movie any way you wanted what would it be and how would you change it to make it your own?
id take the blob and make it into a porno or mabye take a zombie flick and do the same
this and deathstalker 1 finally got a bluray release on aug 30th 2016. its a twoferone by shoutfactory.
Nice bloopers at the end, reminds me of the jacky chan's movies.
I liked this movie, but the best part is really that theme music.

I always liked this Movie as it is very fun to watch.
I would like to watch your review about the movie "The Warriors". I'm a big fan of it and would be awesome !!
I've played the game it's just as good
There's a game!?!? :/
This Deathstalker reminds me a little bit of Space Adventure: Cobra which is an '80's anime.
Monique Gabrielle was great in this film. I really enjoyed this movie.
