HEJ!
Hey!
Sup
Hej Ola
Hej på dig Ola
Nej
No Hejka
I love that ola looks nervously around the room when chuging, like its illegal or something.
I noticed this also i think he is trying not to disrespect any neighbors, or his wife with the awesome metal tones of loudness. I think his wife waves a white flag.
I think that’s him checking the decibel meter?
Yeah hes gotta be checking the DB meter, i assume he likes to jam at a lower DB for his ears
IRL lol take an upvote
Probs checking mic levels
the amp alone sounded way better than expected
It is called a club, because it has lettuce, tomato, and bacon inside.
And that extra piece of bread in between.
Dumb, but funny. Take my like lol.
You’re describing a BLT! Hah.
Hahaha
Keep your day job
how many years can we listen to Ola chugging an open D chord
I've heard those riffs so many times they are burned in my brain.
Must be a trick question, because it's infinite
D = Dick ola's favorite
That’s what’s great about RUclips.. you can watch a different video if you don’t like the one you’re currently watching..
At least 69 years.
I love Ola’s reaction after plugging straight into the amplifier lol he looks around like “holy crap that’s really good” Sounds heavy as hell. Blacks tar is good.
These guys have come a long way and they are future classics in my view. Solid build and affordability is great. They rock a good clean sound too. Try em out as soon as you can get out to a store
Absolute beast! Wouldn’t of expected such a full, narly, overall bloody great metal sounding OD channel. Blackstar delivering all of the goods.
Liam Burke I bought mine basically for the isf feature and because James hetfeild used black star in the past for a short period of time u can sort of get a Metallica tone the isf towards the American side and when I play drop b I roll it to the British side for the orange type sound that Jim root uses in slipknot not sure how it sounds to other people but to me it sounds really good
I've never heard a high gain sound this good coming out of a Blackstar, especially an HT series. Blackstar needs to have you demo videos of their amps, like now.
@Luke Robinett nice!!
For real though. Mine sounds like dog shit. Or once I find a tone I like, I’ll turn her on one day and it’ll just randomly sound like shit again
Ht is better than series one. At least it looks better and somewhat reasonably price. The series one is as expensive as an engl invader lol
@@ChiefthepupIdk why but I have the same amp Ola is using and it sounds decent but with a drive it sounds better. Doesn't sound as nice as the one he's using or that I've tried in a store before.
I actually regretted selling my Blackstar HT!! the Gain was MUCH more modern than my Marshall...which I loved.....I only sold the blackstar cause it was 1watt tube, and Loved the tone so much, so I planned to buy a Bigger amp.....but never got around to choosing an amp. But yes, the HT is actually the Better series.
IT SOUNDS ABSOLUTELY MONSTROUS
That thing was chugging before you even introduced it.
The distorsion of blackstar is the best thing ive ever heard.
They are underrated amps that deserve more love
I have an HT Club 40 Black and Blue and holy fuck.... that amp is all I’ve ever needed.
I miss my club 40. Probably one of the best amps I’ve played over the Last 20 years.
I've used this thing in my apartment for going on 2 years now. I have a Mesa Boogie triple rec that sadly does not ever get any play time due to how badly it pissed off my neighbors the first time I played it. I saw this at guitar center and to me this is one of the best combo amps for at home and if you wish recording use. You can slap a Boss CW-2W in front of this thing and get early 80's Wylde tones and then jam to Cannibal Corpse songs next with a tube screamer. They do get some hate but hey 🤷🏻♂️ not everyone takes their tea the same. As always Ola great vids and keep doing your thing.
Ugh fuck the neighbors. Good luck!
I love the fact that Ola tests amps both using microphone and without. I wish more channels did this. This definitely shows more natural raw side of the amps that would sound in real world.
“Do we need to hear the clean channel? No.”
Thanks you!!!! Lol
the clean channel on mine is pretty bland but with pedals its ok
@@Wrguitar941 exactly why I returned mine
@@Wrguitar941 do you use distortion/overdrive pedals on the clean? How does distortion/overdrive in the dirty channels?

Gus G. endorses Blackstar & he sounds really good! Ozzy’s SCREAM album is all Gus G. & his Blackstar amps!
These amps are great. Good value and reliability. Ive had the ht 100 head for 8 years and practiced and gigged with it as my main amp the whole time. Ive retubed it once and it never lets me down. I run it through an old marshall with greenbacks and it rocks!
"It definitely sounds like Brexit. It has that core sound but it lacks all those awesome things that's gonna go missing."
That's.... yeah.
Political Ola, like that :)
Maybe it's got Russian tubes! Eeek!
HAHAHAHA
So very true Ola.
I dont like political ola. I completely cut out politics. Dont even watch news because everyone always trying to pull you one way or other. Politics is a disease.
These amps are ways underrated IMO. I think if they made a closed-back version of this amp with Creamback 65’s in it, it would be unstoppable.
I have yet to buy one but these always end up being my go-to amps in stores when trying guitars out for heavier stuff. Immediately satisfying tight high gain tones.
I have the James Nichols JJN-20RH and 2x12 cab. It's basically a revoiced HT-20 and it's fantastic. Coming from years of playing a 5150III, I was really surprised how well the Blackstar did metal tones. You mentioned you wanted presence. I added an amptweaker depth finder in my fx loop, which is the presence and resonance of a peavey 5150 in a small box.
@Luke Robinett get a good cab. I am planning on getting one (100 Watt Head) for a backup, possibly a wet/dry setup to my main rig after playing one of my buddies through a Mesa 412. Was shocked.
This last year has seen your your lead playing flourish. It's great to see you getting more comfortable with it and showing your chops.
Exact same thing has been happening with my ZUUL. Glad to see I’m not the only one. I’ll have to open it up to see what’s going on.
I have the first ht 40 club and I love it. This one sounds amazing
What’s different about the MKii, anyone ? Getting the Mk i in a trade tomorrow
@@tonyscardaci2089MKII version Added clean and drive voices one by one(with an on-off button). and also have a watt reduction button. can reduce wattage by 10%.
Looks like Blackstar is about to see a boost in sales. Good job Ola!
Boss with their MetalZone: "We can speak from experience"
I had a HT40 and that "I want to add some kind of sizzle to this" is what I thought too. It sounds decent but kinda dark and didnt cut in a band mix all that great.
Yup thats what I thought when I heard Ola play it.
It won’t cut
I've got an HT20, I run a ts9 in front... This thing is crazy chunky, thick and tight. Fantastic amp
I never thought I'd hear someone compare a guitar tone to Brexit
I just got the HT60 60 w/ the 2X12's, which fixes all of the gripes you seem to have with this one. First time playing a Blackstar amp, and the presence makes the beast come alive. Love the sound of this thing.
Yea i can see why some people would like the extra residence and presence knobs vs having none
I use a HT 40 mk I vintage edition for band rehearsals and it's amazing.
What’s cool about black Star is they have a line out jack in the back of the amp so you don’t need a load box when recording directly to your interface
"Club" could be it's meant for playing in a club, small cab mic'd up for the pa.
Luke Robinett because people still think they need 100+ watts to play live
This is exactly what it means actually lol
@@cursetheserpent No doubt. A long long time ago we opened for Nile (a death metal band) in the late 90's. I had a full stack 2 4x12 cabs. Sound guy came up and mic'd it, I turned it on and it sounded really nice. Then the volume got cut by half, and I could not hear it anymore, only through the wedge monitors. For the rest of the tour, I invested in a 2x12 little rectangle cab that was easy to carry. Everything is sent to PA now, so no need to blow out windows with crazy volume. On stage it's eerily quiet compared to when I would walk down in center of front of the stage where it was LOUD. Different times now.
@@billyturk8117 Not exactly. Club as in this amp from the HT Venue series is aimed at a club player is accurate but the inference it is designed to be mic'd for the PA part is not. As far as theoretical scaling goes the 60W Stage model should only be about 1.5 db louder.
@@theauthenticsteve yeah true. I meant it that it was aimed for the club player just like the stage 100 is based for bigger shows, etc. Didn't really pay attention to the mic part. Thanks for clearing that up though!
While I'm not the biggest fan of Blackstar amps, I gotta say, it actually sounds nice and full, with a tight low end. Great job Ola! Keep up the good work.
in person it's a different thing, much better.. try it.
Once a week I sit down, and watch all your newest videos. One of the best parts of my weeks! thank for that :) keep up the chugging pls!
Ola makes me want to buy every amp he demos. Which makes me want one of his guitars. Ola, you’re both great and humble…
I have this Amp. It's solid. I put a celestion vintage 30 in it.
There are two voicing on the OD channel. A scooped setting and a flat setting. The ISF knob changes the eq curve as well. That's 4 different core tonalities for an "all at noon" eq setting.
Yes, versatile EQ on that amp.
Sounds heavy as F**K. I think I'm gonna get one.
Good one today because of this video. Shipping tomorrow.
Ola is right, it sounds pretty good, the distortion is good but it sounds like it has a blanket over the speaker. It needs more of that grind-ier sound and less of the muffled, tone
I was just watching the new full set of King Diamond on RUclips and Mike Wead is playing a Solar Guitar, how cool since he's been playing an olympic white modified strat every time I've seen him over the years. He a true bad ass on guitar.
There is something to be said about a one by twelve tube amp combo.... It's very tight and the tones just are very well tight and rounded. Nothing lost at all
Hej ola! Bringing light to this dark world once again.
Played through one of these recently. I’m now trying to sell my Marshall to fund getting an HT Stage 100.
That guitar reminds me of my old Washburn N2. What a beast that axe was, I miss it dearly.
Got this amp 8 years ago, after trying many distortion pedals on it, always comeback to the HT's distortion...the best, it can be old school and more modern.. the reverb is great..,no BS.. and yes, it is really loud.
This amp is excellent, and all it’s voicings sound great. I put a chinese celestion vintage 30 in mine and it really opened it up and it sounds huge now. V30s are the perfect upgrade for this. I have a few nice tube amps already that cost much more, yet this amp is my favourite of them all since putting in the V30. It also handles pedals beautifully both in front and in its fx loop.
Do you think maybe a Celestion Creamback may sound good?
Have the 100W head through a two twelve Chinese 30's...sound is unbelievable, it's a fire breather!
This is my go to amp at guitar center by the way
I really like how you mentioned the voicing. Some people just believe Celestion 30's are a no brainer, but I say, "You have to pay and listen to them to give judgement." I know. What a concept.
Love the look of that A1.6RD. I can’t wait until mine shows up. I got the email earlier today letting me know it’s ready to ship.
I'm very happy with the two Blackstar amps I own. I have the HT50 mk2 head and 2x12 cab. It's does just about any style and decently. It can chug, it can djent (though a little OD in front helps), it does blues, and cleans; all fairly well. Are there better amps out there? Sure, but for twice (thrice!) the price. The other is the HT5 mk2, nice little practice amp that can get loud real quick. It definitely needs an overdrive in front to get decent metal tones. Both take pedals well, have foot switches, effects loop, D.I. output, headphone jacks. I have to mention I changed all the preamp tubes to Tung-sol gold pins. Gives a little more bite and snarl to the amps. I don't understand all the hate. Though I think the company needs to release another high
gain amp, since they seem to be phasing out the Series One amps. I'm hoping that they will announce it soon. They should put more effort into that instead of the digital modeling amps.
I'm right there with you - Check my other comment if you want to feed your confirmation bias!
tophatness When you put the tung sol in did it make the tone brighter? My ht20 head seams very dark and lacking a little more gain.
@@eric_casper5150 yes, the tung-sol gold pins added a pleasing touch of high end sizzle to the tone. There are even brighter tubes available, but the T-S are great all around performers for rock and metal.
tophatness just put 2 regular tung sols in my preamp section and made a big difference much brighter now and more gain. Now my amp sounds killer. Thanks for the response!!!
@@eric_casper5150 you're welcome. I am pleased to know my opinions and insight helped you achieve a more desirable tone. That's badass🤘 I have since traded in my HT50 towards a PRS MT15. That big amp was awesome, but I didn't have a need for that much wattage at this time.
"Do I need to show off the clean channel? No." hahaha
Hey Ola, I had the first generation of the HT Club 40 ages ago before I (reluctantly) sold it off. I think the "club" refers to the kind of venue it would be used for (small clubs/venues).
Owned a Blackstar HT 40 for while now. Put a new speaker in it, it was a cream back, but forgot what the name of the company it was. And it’s sounds awesome! Specially on recordings!
Finally a real demo of this amp thanks 🙏
sounds pretty damn good to me.
don't know why blackstar gets all the hate
@Kzzyn1990 - Same here! Love my S1-100 EL34B head. I think it gets so much hate from hardcore Marshall and Orange fanboys, because the guys who created the best amps for those companies left, and went to Blackstar to create something superior.
And this is coming from a guy who’s owned a Marshall for over 20 years... I prefer my Blackstar S1-100.
\m/ Awesome!!!
MudRunner2005 exactly, they are great amps at decent prices. Not my taste personally but yeah. Orange fanboys hating black star for those reasons are idiots considering orange is basically the over priced version of what black star is
The hate stems from their mid range tube amps being a hybrid of a SS and a Tube amp. I think the EVH 5150 line is currently the best.
Dantrag28 I like the 5150 iii but not on its own. I pair one with a PRS Archon 100 blended for my recording tone
I have an HT 40 mk. I. I replaced my Crate Blue Voodoo half stack work it and then played an outdoors venue without a PA with no problems being heard.
Ola, that amp sounds sick!! Nice riffing also. Club stands for good to use in small night clubs🤟😎
OLA WE NEED ANOTHER VIDEO ON BOSS KATANA MKII, the New Tone Studio and what not, your settings
Sounds pretty damn good to me.
Hot damn! I can't believe that massive sound is coming from a combo amp! I wish I had one back when I gigged in metal bands in the 90's. I could never find a decent budget friendly all-tube combo amp for metal back then.
This one sounds more like a boutique metal amp. Very impressive!
Didnt the 5150 come in a combo back then?
@@fighterx4133 Yeah....but it didn't sound nearly as good in an open-backed cabinet and was not nearly as versatile. That being said, Peavey was probably one of the few companies that made decent sounding combo amps. Crate also made some good ones. I own a Crate 50 watt head that sounds amazing through a Dean Markely 4x12 cabinet but I remember that the combos sounded great.
I had an HT-5 head earlier this year and other than not being loud enough(barely) to jam with a band, I thought the tone was incredible. It pretty much sold me on tube amps. It definitely had that Jon Shaffer-esque bite that I mentioned in a previous comment here on your channel. I would however, love something with built-in midi-switchable effects. I’m not sure what Blackstar has to offer in that category but it will be a while before I’m in the market again anyway.
O man I have it.
It rocks, metals and ballads.
And bought Fly 3 beacause of your video.
Thx!
Man I bought it. Fool, you used your private account instead of this one. Relogin before writing comments.
These are fine amps. Definitely the best value along with the 6505 for metal.
Man, I’m really liking these tones for metal and sounds like you can get a variety of tones for rock.
Ola thanks for making this video, thanks to you i just picked up a used mark 1 edition yesterday in mint condition for 300 dollars and that fucker is bad ass.i did not need to use an overdrive pedal because it sounded just fine without one.this is a great amp and the tones are killer.i am very happy with this little amp.it is loud and does everything i want it to and i am a metal player also.
That amp sounds kickass
That red A1.6 is fooking sexy.
Oli Herbert played Blackstar Series One. Enough Said. I have the HT60 212, a Series One Head (12AX7), and a couple of the Series One Cabs. I can tell you all, that the 60 has a presence and resonance controls. Another thing that goes without saying is the noise in the video is not as bad on the 60, at least not the one I have. I do have an NS2 in the gate with my tube screamer but that is because of the OD. Even without being boosted it will scream with the best of them. Not a bottom heavy loose bitch like a Recto but still a great amp. And the Series One.....Well again, Oli herbert got his tone with it so its obviously a monster.
These amps are the total package. Adding the 2x12 is great.
I thought this will be the next "Will It Chug?" series 🤷🏾♂️
damn that thing sounds massive for a combo amp
I got this and I put a airis effects preamp in the fx loop and it sounds brutal. Good buy.
Great vid man! Love the man cave! Got my Will It Chug shirt on order! can't wait
Play's 1 chord. Ok that's clean channel, moving on. Hahahaha. Thats literally me everytime i try a new amp!
I’d love to hear it with a noise gate. That thing hums more than my microwave
It's actually a common problem. Mine has the same shit :(
Devin Batista burn it
Same on my although different Blackstar model
Its probably the cheap Chinese pickups.
Hum is the soul of music
That A1.6 Artist is really just beyond awesome!!!!..gotta have one. Thanks for another informative vid. Enjoy the day Brother!
I just wanted to point out and i have the blackstar HT Stage 100 EL34 mk2 head and the blackstar cab with v 30's and it rocks! to me it sound better than way better than the try out! I really enjoy your youtube it is always cool to see what you doing and playing. Thanks
Internet: Ola can make a potato chug!
BLACKSTAR: hold my HT 40 Club!
I have a hat 60 what do you think of the blackstar 60
Love mine, Dude. I got the 100w head through a 2x12 v30 cab. Awesomeness. Now everyone is going to buy one cuz of you.
Amps, guitars.....all in the hands Ola. You have the hands to make whatever sound good. :)
Marshal engineers left marshall and created BlackStar
They were to diode clipping guys. There were two camps at marshall.
They were the Valvestate guys...so Blackstar is essentially "updated" Valvestate amps. I sold my HT Studio 20.
One of them was marshall Chief designer.
I had a Blackstar once. It was decent enough. However I sold it and my friend sold his recently as well. 6/10
So what did you end up with.
@@guitarocd9984 I have a Kemper now!
Ah
Gave up my HT5 Metal for a EVH 5150 lbx.
I had HT5R. Eventually sold it. It's great for chug sound but lacks dynamics, which becomes apparent as you turn down the gain.
I would be quite happy with a little amp like that. If that 2x12 is a sealed cab, the sealed part of it will kill mids in my experience. I built an open back 2x12 for my Crate VX 50 212. Loaded it with Peavey 12" Sheffields. Lots of bottom, mids, and the highs aren't too shrill. If I can ever afford a decent cam/mic setup I'll do a video on that.
HT Club 50 is same amp but just head form. Great amp for clean and gain. Celestion V30 works nicely with this amp.
Did you have it switched at 40 Watts, or 4 Watts? Switch on front panel.
g. probably at 40w bc he has the volume at 9o clock
This amp can chuggggggg yesss🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾🤘🏾 greetings from malaysia
Nice video! I am using this amp too and I apriciate that you tested it. Thanks for the video, good job!
Actually, very versatile amp. I saw one dude, who does guitar covers, chugging some very awesome tones with that amp.
"Getting political here" lmao!! love my blackstar ht40. can literally play any genre on it. sounds great with my classical nylon, dobro, schecter, fender tele. so versatile with manipulations on my pedals. not a big fan of the reverb tho
Good for Metallica etc?
Did you use the right impedance on the speaker connection?
Yes,thats what it also sounds like to me,if the blackstar has a 4 ohm internal speaker and if ola's cab is 8ohm's that would explain the volume drop i heard when ola switched to his cab, most of the time a speaker with a higher impedance is not as loud as one with a lower impedance.
@@jimsimmons2674 HT Club 40 II uses a 16Ω speaker

Great review, Ola! The only thing I think is missing from some of your reviews is some tremolo picking
Blackstar Silverline coming anytime soon? 🙂
Fluff would still say its shit for the sake of keeping the meme alive
Rison Bison yeah but then again fluffs tone is always shit anyways
He’s an awful player too
I happen to like his tones and his playing lol
Meh tone is subjective. To my ears fluffs tone is weak. It doesn’t seem to grab the mix by the balls like Ola or Merrows tones for example
fluff is an idiot and a wanna be.i also hear that he is gay.
that amp sounds badass. thats the amp that made me buy my JP music man because it sounded kick ass on that amp at Sam Ash music store in the Woodlands Texas.
Hmm I might just get this one.
But I'm still trying to figure out what amp will sound best for my BC Rich 7 string with Seymore Duncan blackouts.
I actually regretted selling my Blackstar!!...Lol....had a better modern Metal tone than my Marshall. TONS of famous artists use Blackstar, people make it out like they are Line 6 or something, it's just laughable...
I have one of these but its the special edition that ships with a Vintage 30 and it sounds much better IMO
It's subjective. I put a V30 into one of my Blackstar's. IMO both the 70/80 and V30 are lacking things the other has and when combined do well to compliment each other as a kind of budget option. However even together they seem to lack something IMO.
The Authentic Steve I have a Gibson Les Paul with Ceramic Dirty Finger pickups and they’re very bright so I think it works for me well
OMG, plugged straight into the amp!
Reminds me of the free lovin days, being unprotected.
Club means it’s big enough for a small club setup. Thanks for the vid
