Anything that has a relay can easily triggered with an inexpensive Neodymium super magnet . It s 2021 , magnetproof relay should be in the market right now , I bet it will be in couple of years . There are solid relays but still expensive
@@alecpainter314 Exactly. Granted there are two versions. 1. Uses your existing lock and 2. That is a full replacement (they wouldnt tell me what lock assembly they use).
That is like asking how strong the glass is on the windows of your home. Why does it matter? If someone wants in your house they'll get in regardless if the shaft of the deadbolt is hollowed out.
@@Zyrexed Exactly. A swift kick or two...someone is in. I was a firefighter for a couple of years and we tested just about every deadbolt known to man.
Steven D that’s a perfectly valid question. This isn’t Hollywood where someone can kick your door open with a few swift kicks. I have asked that question to many of the police officers in my family and they always say it’s not that easy. Which is why they use battering rams. Some deadbolts and door jambs are stronger then others. There will always be some exceptions, but the % is small of when kicks will work.
@@flintTC As I said before a lock and door isn't going to stop someone who really wants to get in. Windows and sliding glass doors are a very easy way to get into your house. Worrying about someone being able to swiftly kick in your door should be the least of your concerns.
My first thought when I saw that was, "whoa, why has nobody thought of that before?"... 10 seconds later, "oh, wait, that's a hollow deadbolt. That's why."
John, I need a kick test!! With the battery compartment being the actual device that secures your house....I assume that with it being hollow for battery space, it’s also probably the weakest point. DO IT! KICK IT IN! Lol. Serious, I’m curious.
@@jon4lakers It's one of the things I'm curious about this... One being how durable it is to being kicked in... and the other would be... how do you retract/extend it when it dies... I know it unscrews the battery cover... but how do you unscrew it when it's retracted inside the cylinder? or how do you unlock the door when the deadbolt is extended because the battery died?
I think the best use of this is for apartments who won’t allow you to change your lock. You get the home functionality on top of knowing when their maintenance team goes into the apartment without you knowing.
I got one. I like it and they have been improving it. I wish i had the rfid as the bluetooth access can be a pain sometimes. Especially if your going in and out rapidly.
I am concerned with the fact that they bore a huge hole into the bolt itself, reducing its structural integrity, which is the most important part of the lock in terms of holding back forceful entry.
It would be nice to eliminate the outside key part due to people picking locks. Probably have a couple of contacts for battery backup which actually could be hardwired to another location in case the battery dies.
so the battery is in the bolt? the BOLT? the part that takes the brunt if someone is trying to kick the door in is hollow? am i taking crazy pills here?
Can you install this without putting the part that you use your hand or key to manually open? Like for a concealed door. If it’s smart I figure you can always open “smart way” and leave the manual pieces off.
can you still open this lock from the outside using the existing key to the existing lock. after all, this is an invisible lock that occupied inside a functional lock that could be picked by a few or many burglars, that's what i'm talking about? so are we people in general are safe out of the water yet?
I'd be worried about this, as someone who has used iftt for location based things, it works great first but at some point works maybe 50% of the time then just doesn't work
N . O . P . E . I only trust it if I put it together. At this point you hand off the keys to your place to some company on the internet, and at that point you've probably signed your rights away.
Okay, I've been in tech for 20 years now. I am by NO MEANS a fear monger. - That being said, allowing access to your home, by a random DELIVERY GUY, when you aren't there to answer the door, is a HORRIBLE IDEA! Don't be a fool!
People asking for "LockPickingLawyer’s" comments, this doesn't mess with the existing Lock. The door will still be as secure as your existing lock. The only other vulnerability would be your Wifi password but that's another whole another debate.
The problem I see is locks are graded 1 2 3 1. being the best. And this looks like it’ll be less than a three being the worst just looking at the bolt being the fact that the battery goes in there no real good security around Deadbolt bolt itself just by the way it looks
Used to think these kinds of things were so cool until we saw a Canadian show that hacked every appliance in a smart home. They only started with the door
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ruclips.net/user/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
The lock picking lawyer can still pick it the actual locking mechanism where the key goes into is gonna be the same the only thing that makes it mechanical is the latch that’s what your phone connects to Social Security part is all the same
Because it's round? You don't really see how thick it is so hard to tell from a video. It looks like it wont fit in mine either but I bet it will fit anyway.. Or just a very small fix to get it to fit
I like it. Also so sick of morons parroting the lockpickinglawyer dude like if someone didn't want to get it they wouldn't just smash the goddamn window. LOL
This lock is a joke the key lock that was on the door before the level lock was installed was a stronger lock. the bolt has no strength the bolt is not solid. don't waste your money
I'm waiting for the lockpickinglawyer's review first.
I have seen a few people mentioning LPL in youtube videos and comments lately.
It's like some sort of RUclips shared universe.
But you don't replace your lock.... Just the bolt mechanism

Needs to be tested by the Lock Picking Lawyer
But like, this doesn't replace your lock. So what is he gonna test?
@@alecpainter314 he will check if he can bypass without key!
I clicked this video expecting to find LPL mentioned in the comments; obviously, I was not disappointed.
This is the lock?

I wanna know more about this smart pan
How strong is the shaft of the deadbolt with it being hollowed out for the battery?
my exact though

glad to see new videos from you man. Keep it up. Hope things are going well
Appreciate you.
If your main concern when choosing a lock is aesthetics, get someone else to choose your lock.
I don't watch his videos cos I can't afford it. 😅. I just come here for that wonderful story telling, narration and awesome cinematography.

Nothing beats the strength of a hallow dead bolt.
Nice video Jon!
Can it be use on gate? Waterproof?
Dang it, I think I need this
Off topic but what do you think of the new Rams uniforms?

Where we can buy this?
Door lock is only as good if the framing of the door is solid. Improper framing is reason why intruders can simply bypass the lock by kicking it

Question: what if you came from a
Long vacation and the battery is dead?
Use the key
Would have to be a year long vacation - battery lasts a year
What happens when the lock battery dies when you still are outside?
You can still use your regular keys as you did before, that Doesn't change
Once these are affordable I'll get some because $229 is just waaay too much considering there are 2 dead bolts on my door
I never saw the lock working on the video....

As a smart home enthusiast, great video!
I'd like to see someone give a door with that lock a kick. Deadbolts are solid where this thing is hollow for the battery
I think they missed the mark on the price $99.99 sell these all day

My question is can you still use your traditional key too?
Yes you absolutely can. Most of the questions that you may have you can go on their website and it answered all of that
Because the bolt isn’t a solid piece it’s probably pretty weak

Anything man-made can be hacked. ANYTHING.

Useless on a door with glass panels, smash the glass reach in and turn the internal knob.
I can already see that the locking pin in that lock won’t work with my door.
Because it's round? You don't really see how thick it is so hard to tell from a video. It looks like it wont fit in mine either but I bet it will fit anyway.. Or just a very small fix to get it to fit
The box has 3 different ones that are interchangeable
