I'm moving to Alberta in May. Looking for the best city for my family. Initially thought about Calgary (too big at the end) then Airdrie but now with this video Cochrane seems pretty interesting. Thanks for sharing Frank.
Thanks for watching and for sharing your thoughts! Airdrie has a lot of positives as well but the two towns are very different. You will love it our here and if I can help you in anyway let me know!
I need your suggestion , I am planning to start a pizza business , I have two options Cochrane (small town near Calgary with a population of 35000 only)or Edmonton. I live in Calgary and just got a house and my family and other relatives are also in Calgary , but unfortunately I have to choose between Cochrane and Edmonton . I know Edmonton is a big city but I don’t feel like leaving Calgary . I am very confused that If I start my pizza business in Cochrane , will it be successful like Edmonton or not as the franchise fee is above 400k with all the business expenses. Is there anyone who can give me a better Idea ? Thanks
Congrats on wanting to open your own business with hard work I know you will be a success. The pizza business is very competitive with many different models. You have your low cost/quick pizza, your specialty pizza, local neighbourhood pies, etc. Each one is a completely different strategy. Sounds like you are looking at a franchise so probably a big name and based on volume, low margin and quick turnaround. With Cochrane being smaller you could develop a strong brand and become highly visible with the right marketing and structure while Edmonton could have more long term potential (more locations) but also a lot more competition. My preference would be to skip the franchise fees and start small in a market like Cochrane and reinvest in your business and brand until you become known as the BEST PIZZA in town. There are some decent pies available but no one dominates the market yet...hope this helps you!
Cochrane is getting too big now. Traffic is terrible and the town is extremely busy. Don’t listen to anyone who tells you different! The mayor needs to stop the building because he is ruining the town!!
