Most of the frustration at Lim seems to be that his shows are clearly the more expensive shows to produce and he's the CEO, so if the business isn't making enough money and he's blowing through it, that's sorta on him, and people don't want to pay to watch him eat expensive food that they'll likely never get the opportunity to eat themselves. I think he's stuck in the past when fancy blingy videos did better overall on the internet. That and they announced this right after he announced he was bringing two more friends on as employees. Ryan and Shane are the more popular of the 3, their videos seem more down to earth overall, and Steven being the CEO, it makes sense to me why he got the most heat.
Yes. Comments made it very clear they don't like Steven because they don't find him likable, relatable or entertaining. Imagine if JK suddenly made their own site, deleted everything off RUclips, and was like "it's just 7/month!". And they don't even post on the Patreon (ALSO IT WON'T LET ME PAY FOR THE JK PATREON FOR SOME TECHNICAL REASON BUT THAT'S A DIFFERENT STORY) 6:25 literally that's what everyone else does. A channel I watch on RUclips was on Patreon but when they made their own site, they didn't also keep the Patreon just to collect money LMAO. They immediately deleted it after refunding patreons moving over. And they still post on RUclips with the exception of bonus content. They also didn't announce it suddenly like " bye see ya on the other side of the paywall."

Don’t forget about the countdown 😂 and the tone deaf nature of saying “for those who want to continue to watch us” And in the first announcement they said all their previous content is being moved behind a countdown. They monetise of viewers with 2 of their shows being based around viewer submissions and 2 weeks before they announced the paywall they took fan submissions.
They weren’t going to delete everything off RUclips. That was a big part of the controversy. That every thing you were paying for on the site was already on RUclips for free.
