  • I've spent a ton of time kayaking in Phoenix and Canyon Lake has some of the best and most accessible spots! It's a big lake and for first-timers, it can be very overwhelming with all the other boat traffic on the lake. In this video, I'll share with you the best places to kayak to stay safe and enjoy some very scenic trips.

Just last month around September 22 2020 I rented a kayak for just an hour near the Dolly Steamboat and took it into the Tortilla Creek area which ended into Egypt Cove. From there I paddled back to the campground nearby and parked the kayak for a nice swim. The water was just perfect! Coming from Ohio I felt that I was at home again with a very quiet pleasant experience. Only difference is desert landscape. Otherwise the water and this area was nice!

First water creek can be brutal depending on the algae bloom. I have seen thousand of dead fish and toxic waters back there in the warmer months. If you catch it at the right time it is definitely a top spot to hit.

Totally agree. I’ve seen that too. But yes if you catch it at good time it’s a great little hideaway! Thanks for watching!

@@copperstarkayak8072 We went to Canyon Lake on Cinco de Mayo. No crowd and the weather was perfect. The lake was beautiful and the views are magnificent. Per your advice, we launch our boat at Acacia site and paddled to First Wave Cove then back and paddled all the way to Labarge Cove. We kayaked for four hours and it was an amazing experience. We will definitely go back and try Tortilla Creek as you mentioned. I have to agree with you that Canyon Lake is one of the most beautiful lakes in Arizona. It, might even be my favorite most especially for our photography hobby. Thanks again and looking forward to more of your upcoming videos. :)

So I just got a kayak! I live in southern AZ. I watched all your videos, but can you tell me the best kayak adventures in AZ in order of awesomeness. I have to start making plans!

    • @copperstarkayak8072

Thanks for watching them! I would go in this order, Glen Canyon(Marble Canyon), Blue Ridge, Lower Salt River, Canyon Lake. There are lots of lakes I still haven’t done yet as well. But that’s is a great list to start with!

You do need to purchase a Tonto parking pass. There are some kiosks at canyon lake that you can buy from. You can also purchase from gas stations on your way to the lake. I always buy my passes in Apache Junction on my way to the lake just in case the kiosks aren’t working. Have fun out there!

Cool places, the last place was very sweet! A kayakers only club, nice! Here in western nc theres so few paddlers u never see ppl kayaking, in town or where there r houses, like culsaja river, there r kayakers, fishers, n others. But the Little Tennessee River LTR is great, chk i got a few videos u would love. N im from SW fla on the beach. Theres areas in the mangroves where motor boats are not allowed to go bc environment protection. Was nice but once I was there and seen a sign to be where of alligators so I turned around as any smart person would do just a find I was being circled by a roughly 7 foot bull shark. He started it about 30 feet away and got about 10 feet away circling me, keep in mind the mangroves are, Basically just tubes covered in sharp barnacles that go everywhere and are impossible to get through, so in the words of Charlie Day "im trapped like a rat," . But im thinking about moving to AZ, -chandler, sedona. Brookings Oregon. Idk what u think? I ride sport bikes to n need mountains in my life lol, fla is out but i will miss the SW fla fishing, best ever. I been to Alaska, meh cold n crap not for me. The Dragon here is my style, 10 year rider here,, thats not easy, most technical roads in the country n great surfaces mostly

Thanks for watching my video! That’s crazy about the bull shark! I’ve actually kayaked some mangroves in Florida a long time ago and it was super cool. We saw either a lemon shark or nurse, can’t remember, but those are harmless. A bull shark would be both terrifying and terrific! Arizona is an awesome state with tons of riding in both the desert and forests. A lot of people think Arizona is all desert, but in northern Arizona we have lots of beautiful pine forests. Check out my video on Blue Ridge Reservoir and you’ll see what I mean. Have fun out there!
