  • Canyon Lake is a very popular spot in AZ for boaters and paddlers. For good reason too, It's one of the most beautiful and accessible lakes in Arizona. I've done videos in the past on day paddles at Canyon Lake but in this video I show you how to do an overnighter at the Boat Access Only Campsite 2.5 miles into Canyon Lake. This spot is also known as The Point. Not a ton of information can be found online about this spot so hopefully this is helpful for paddlers looks for a scenic, secluded campsite just 30 minutes outside of Mesa Arizona.

My daughter and her boyfriend camped in the same spot, and were awakened in the night by those big horn sheep getting into their kayaks 🙂

Thanks for sharing. I'm looking to start camping. Just spent 2 nights at Burnt Corral. Definitely putting this spot on my list.

I’ve never been to Burnt Corral. I’ll have to add it to my list.

@@copperstarkayak8072 Kinda off the path since there's a pertty lengthy washboard road you travel before getting to it. Totally worth it though I think.

We went in late October. Kind of a perfect time to go. Cool nights, warm long days. Have fun and thanks for watching!

So can you leave your vehicle overnight at the Acacia recreation parking area while you are kayak camping?

    • @copperstarkayak8072

Yes. It is a “park at your own risk scenario” because there are not any cameras or security but it is allowed.

Is there enough wood at the point to support a fire all night?

No. There’s isn’t any actually. You need to haul in your own. Thanks for watching!

How long does it take you to paddle there? I've been out a few times by boat but was wanting to do this with my bf in the near future and trying to guage time

I can’t remember exactly but it was about 2-3 hours to paddle out there. We weren’t going super fast either. The paddle back though is longer because you get some wind going against you that is pretty typical for this canyon. It just means you need to take a lot of breaks and wait for the wind to die down. Stay close to the shoreline so you can anchor yourself or duck into a cave and not be blown backwards every time the wind picks up. It sounds like a lot of work but it’s really a great time. Have fun!

@Copperstar Kayak thinking of trying it not too far in the distant future. Just gotta take your time. We just paddled a few hours last night on canyon so I think we'd be fine.
