I recently developed a Developing your Storytelling deck spread for interviewing your deck in regards to whether it would be suited towards a certain project or energy and what I loved was that I had used the Deviant Moon for the projects first draft and then months later I interviewed it again and it was like, nope, done with this project for now, and so I interviewed other potential decks instead. It really showed me that the decks have personalities.
Lovely tips. I too interview my decks and try to study their symbolism and journey with them as much as possible. I often find that when I receive a new deck it needs to sit on my altar for a few nights before I feel like it is really "mine." I set it on a pentacle trivet that's placed on top of a selenite slab. I suppose this is my way of cleansing the deck and inviting it into my practice.
+PowerFemme I tend to leave decks I'm working with on my altar, too. Some decks I definitely feel like need to cill out in my space for a little while, but others I just rip out and get to work straight away! :)
What I love to do is have a "Meet n Greet" with my deck. I will thumb through the cards at first glance and just admire the artwork. Then I"ll proceed to side shuffle and ask the deck which one would like to meet me first. As cards jump out I look at the card and see what I get intuitively, I'll usually do a description of what I'm getting from the card, then I'll ask the card if there's anything else they'd like me to know. I'll also check the description in the guidebook to see what else in case I've missed something. My decks often help me create spreads that would showcase their strengths the best. =o} LoL I also have a secret tarot spread where I deal with "perspectives" and many of my decks tend to compete to be the secret deck. They actually have fun with it.
The other day I was in Indigo Chapters searching for a tarot/oracle deck to buy and I was deciding on these two different decks while my friend waited for me, and we both decided to sit down while I contemplated my choice. When I looked up from the two decks I had in my hands, there was one oracle deck that sat between these two massive tarot/oracle boxes on the bottom shelf (I couldn’t see the bottom shelf when I was standing up) and it seemed to be staring at me lol. Idk how to explain it. Its big lettering caught my eye and once I decided to buy that one instead, I got this wave of excitement washing over me. This is my very first time trying cards and the deck I bought is an intuitive deck. I’m trying to bond with it so this video is very helpful, but I am still new to this and in need of a mentor lol.
Awesome advice, I received a new deck yesterday so I took some time to look at it today and did a bit of a deck interview, it was pretty damn spot on :)
+The Truth in Story Haha I was just thinking that! I like having my videos numbered, but sometimes I really do need to be more careful about how I title my videos!!! :D
Great video, amazing suggestions. I especially love the idea of looking at what story characters fit with different cards or decks. I love doing this as it adds extra layers on to my knowledge and understanding of the tarot. LOVE
Informative and detailed as always! 😊 A quick question, if you don't mind. I'm pretty new to tarot (oracle cards less so), & a bit like you mentioned, one of the first methods I learned involves putting the cards in order. My question is about the order of the suits. I've seen them in different orders but can't seem to pin down if there's a "correct" one. Is there or is it more of a "go with your intuition" type deal? 🤔
A side question please. When doing a reading for someone that is sitting across from you and when reading for them would the card be upright when facing them or when facing me? And with that when reading for someone that is not in the same room would that same position of cards mean the same as if they are sitting across from you?
Can I do more than one interview spread with my deck? I've done a one card pull for each question when I first got it. but it's been 2 weeks now, and I kinda wanna know more about my deck. and bond more, can i do another interview spread?
Nice suggestions, Katey. I love reading the guidebook. I watched Merlin when it was on TV.. I must have watched the entire series 5 times. Watching it brought me to a different place and made me happy. I still watch it online when I can. I love it and was sad to see it end. It's also fun to see the actors now doing other TV programs series that I am currently watching. Oh Oh...I know I went off the subject...Sorry, But I have a Love for that Merlin series. xx
+elle jacobs It's a wonderful show and has certainly become a favourite. We have two episodes left and I kind of don't want to watch them! :( I haven't seen the actors - at least the main characters - doing anything else, I'll have to keep an eye out. Off topic is always fun :D xxxx
What do you do when your deck gives you creepy answers?! I got the devil and then the tower for the 1st 2 questions! (The Ryder Waite borderless) decided to move on for now to a different deck, (the Morgan Greer).
AlicIa furman I’m afraid I don’t really understand your question... those cards are powerful cards, but I wouldn’t describe them as creepy. They’re significant cards in the tarot so if they were coming up for me I would look at what I need to change, question or prepare for.
Katey Flowers I was interviewing the deck as you outlined the 1st question was “what are you here to teach me?”I pulled the devil. The 2nd was “ how do you see yourself?” I pulled the tower. I’m new to this and just came off a difficult time. I’m also in recovery🙂 those cards just kind of freak me out. I guess I don’t understand them well..
I never felt negative about a card that is too grotesque or too real or too funny, infact I love decks that are dark and humorous (I am aquarius sun scorpio rising) but ill have a negative reaction if i dont like the art style like if a human is drawn anatomically incorrect or a card is rendered bad (digital photo manipulation style) its like an immediate no no for me. I want to get over it but i just cant. :(
Bighit the crackhead factory you may need to cleanse your deck, or maybe you need an entirely different deck that you feel you connect with more. i’m very new to this, so take what i say with a grain of salt, but i’ve found those are the two most recommended things in my research
I've been drawing the cards and colouring them in and I've found its a really good way to study every detail and notice things i hadn't before

I had no idea that decks have personalities.

THANK YOU!!!!! Love the info you are sharing and so excited to do these activities with my decks to better connect with them💜

+jadegrrrl I'm so glad you tried out the deck interview and liked it! I love the process - it feels like having a cup of tea with my deck! :D
Before even watching, I love how the title looks like you are going to tell us 111 ways to connect to our decks... in 11min!! :D :D :D
+The Truth in Story Haha I was just thinking that! I like having my videos numbered, but sometimes I really do need to be more careful about how I title my videos!!! :D

+Merlin's Daughter Hey Katey, your geek is showing! :P :D
I have also added your "this deck is very pippish" to my vocabulary. :p
i was listening to this as a background an when she clapped i jumped out of my skin 😂

Hello! I’m so glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Thank you Katey, great tips. They for sure do have personalities♥️🙏🏻
You are fabulous!!
Fantastic tips. I actually was putting two decks I got in trades in order whilst watching this video.
+Norse Pagan Tarot Witch Putting decks in order is so meditative! Congrats on the trades!
Thanks! I'll definitely try out trading decks more often because of you.
Thanks for answering my question, Katey. Not sure whether I can get this in NZ, if not, it will be on my list the next time I visit Australia.
+Pearl MacManus I found them both for reasonable prices on eBay :)
Fabulous suggestions, thank you♡
+Alex Tink Thank you so much! x
After my complete screw up of the initial deck trimming (massacre) I do the new deck interview for my new decks.
+Ametrine Moon Oh no!!!
I know, never again!
Informative and detailed as always! 😊

I am so happy I found this channel. Very interesting video. Thank you.
Hello! Welcome! Glad to hear you enjoyed the video 😊
Yet another interesting and informative video, thanks Katey. You mentioned edging your trimmed decks with ink. What do you use?
+Pearl MacManus I'm glad you liked it! I use Tim Holtz ink for most colours and Brilliance ink for metallic edges. :)
So many wonderful ideas! Thank you
Love it! I have subscribed. Blessings!
Hello! Welcome! :)
Great video helped me x
+Rowena Louise I'm so glad!

What do you make of the the cards that fly out while shuffling?
+Kahea Pineapples I take them as especially important messages, like they're desperate to get me attention and are jumping out at me!

Help I feel like a lost connection whenever I read now I feel like I don’t understand and it’s mostly wrong readings :(
